    Love that ship, such a cool design, so alien yet it is a ship that fits who the Klingon are. Designed to attack, fight, not skirmish, just attack.

    Nice segment at the end explaining why harry Kim called that Ktinga a d-7 in voyager. It was a half refit d-7 shell with the refit parts installed.

      I chalked that up to "D-7" and "K'T'inga" being different names for the same thing. We have this in real life, too. The names NATO uses for Soviet/Russian ship classes differ from those the Russian use. Ships of the Soviet Project 1164 "Atlant" class are called "Slava-class" by NATO. Which is probably because the USSR wouldn't keep NATO updated in their ship nomenclature. Likewise the Federation and Starfleet (at least during the time the D-7/K'T'inga made their appearance) wouldn't learn about new Klingon ship classes until they encounter them in space and have no clue what Klingons called them. So they would come up with a designation on their own. I'm also not sure the ships destroyed by V'ger were supposed to be a different class than the ships Kirk encountered during his five-year mission, mostly because - as far as I know - the production teams behind Star Trek didn't bother to go that far into details that wouldn't be mentioned or otherwise shown on screen.

    While the Romulan Bird of Prey from TOS is my favorite antagonist's ship, the D7 is one bad-ass looking design. Matt Jeffries knocked it out of the part again! (the original U.S.S. Enterprise design being a grand slam...)

      I agree: I always loved the D7 design on TOS but on my small CRT TV they appeared to have light blue tint which even as a child made me think "hmmm" that's kind of girly-girl for such an aggressive design". But when the 3 K'Tingas appeared at the beginning of TMS with that two-tone dark grey and abaltive armor, it reminded me of how bad-a$$, menacing, and dangerous the D7 could be.
      In the opening TMS scene with the K'Tingas, you just have to love the Klingons. I guess they never heard of the old human saying "shoot first and ask questions later". They just shoot first and ask no questions at all. 😁

    The Klingon Bridge in Star Trek The Motion Picture has the Klingon Captain sitting forward so that he is the first to enter battle as a true hero, as opposed to the Federation bridge which has the Captain surrounded by his officers, like a Knight of the Round table motif. The Klingons use slave races, so the long neck restricts revolting slaves or Klingon mutineers access to the command module. Having the warp nacelles hanging downward makes the ship look threatening.

    As I grew up in the '70's, when there was only Star Trek (no bloody "The Original Series"), and the animated series, as far as I'm concerned, the D7 is the best, and only, Klingon ship.
    One problem, though, with the Klingons using cloaking technology: the Klingons are warriors. A true warrior would not cowardly hide from his enemies. He would attack immediately, fighting until victorious or dead. A Klingon would see hiding behind a cloak as the act of a Peta'Q, a dishonor to his house and to the entire Klingon empire. Granted, the whole "honorable warrior" aspect hadn't been created at the time, but how would the perception of a modern Klingon see use of a cloaking device?

Perhaps my memory may be wrong but my friends noticed something that I hadn't on those old deck plans. A remarkable lackage of toilet facilities. Can someone confirm (or deny) this possible memory of mine?

    • @JimmyDiggsJr.
      @JimmyDiggsJr. Год назад +1

      Yes. FASA did put out a set of deck plans. I owned a set. Interestingly, they were based on deck plans that were made much earlier. I think FASA simply acquired the rights to include this widely accepted, fan respected, original ancillary product. I also remember owning a set of deck plans for the Romulan Warbird, as depicted in the Original Series episode "Balance of Terror"'. However, I don't recall if it was from FASA ---- although they did have that feel.
      As for toilet facilities on the D7, I do recall some. But they probably didn't require many because Klingons poop standing up ---- just kidding ---- DO NOT turn that into Beta Canon!

    IMO durable doesn't come to mind. The command functions are separated from the main hull by a 10 foot high corridor.
    The fuel pods in the wings are vulnerable to both top and bottom attacks.
    Lord knows what the technical engineers had to deal with considering the warp field was skewed by the tilted s unit engines.
    If the boom is detached it's the subjugated races in the engineering hull that has control of the powerful weapons.
    Then one shot, let me repeat, ONE SHOT, from the USS Enterprise (a starfleet EXPLORATION vessel/ takes a D7 out of commission.
    Then a cloaked vessel hits the Kitinga and it loses 100% of it's gravitational control.
    Durable?? I'd rather ride a paper airplane.

    • @TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics
      @TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics  Год назад +1

      LOL Lucky shots are meaningless... The D7 IS Durable, you are not thinking of the countless times in CANON that we've been told or seen that... The fact that the Enterprise hit the ship and all it did was turn off the gravity and make a small black mark, meanwhile the Enterprise is hit by 1 torpedo and it does straight through the ship, says it's durable!

      If you're referring to the one-shot destruction of Kang's D-7 in TOS's 'Day of the Dove', you forget that she was already heavily damaged from the unknown previous encounter that Kang spoke of. After Kirk beamed over the survivors, Scotty stated the crewless hulk was leaking enough radiation, (probably drive plasma), to interfere with the Enterprise's sensors. There's no wonder she was destroyed with a single photon torpedo...

      The height of the ship is a different issue, thus if someone is looking at the ship's height and inferring the number of decks from that, they will be wrong in this case, because the warp nacelles and their pylons add significant height without adding any decks.
