Great video Eric, the double side adhesive tape liner is designed to be pulled off slowly after you place the spoiler in the final mounting position. There is no need to remove the tape liner before you place it on the trunk. Try pulling it out slowly after you center it, which is 6.5" from the tailgate edge. You just tug at the liner gently so you never have to move the spoiler from its final desired mounting location. Just an FYI !!!

Great instructional video. The only thing I would add is using either a hairdryer (or heat gun if you have it) around the spoiler after you've put the tape on there to secure it. The heat will help soften up the adhesive and make it adhere better to the car as it cools.
If you really want the spoiler to stay on there rock-solid with no intention of removing it, use some 3M adhesive promoter on the car, then wipe away any excess with isopropyl alcohol.
Red/Black is my color of choice. Erik, your garage is absolutely incredible! I always look forward to your videos!

Thank you. Have a suggestion for you. I used to teach public speaking. Like many RUclips people, you say “go ahead and” over and over in this video. We used to use videos to teach speakers to drop these verbal tics. The great majority did not know they were doing it - as you do over and over in this video. Not being negative or mean, just making you aware of a tic that you have. Again, good video that helped me with my spoiler install.

to add. if you have ceramic coat, you should clay that area first to remove the coating. also, look up 3m 4298uv tape primer, or 3m 06396 promotor. it can be applied after an alcohol wipe and helps the 3m tape to stick even better. i bought a "paint pen" style version of the 4298 and applied it to both the carbon fiber wing and car side (i bought a used wing and put on new 3m tape)

I bought one from Tasmania and it was terrible. The mold was wavy and looked like crap when I installed it. I took it off and they promised to send a new carbon fiber version when they came out, but I never received it. By the way, you’ll only see 4 and 5 star ratings on Tasmania’s website because they scrub any bad reviews. So don’t trust the reviews and good luck ordering from them.
The quality from Tesmanian is only OK, the fit is not exact.
Do NOT follow these instructions unless you want a spoiler that comes off (as the majority does because wrong installation.)
Search for Tesla Bjorn Spoiler on RUclips and follow the instructions there.
I tried to follow this video and there is no way you can peel off the 3M protective tape and just put the spoiler in place, absolutely no way. As soon as any one point of the spoiler touches the car it sticks making any adjustment impossible. There is another video showing the spoiler being pressed into place and only then the 3M backing is slowly removed.
I think the best way is to cut the backing in the middle, so you can start from the center, with 15cm, and work your way outwards both ways. That’s the way the OEM spoiler is as well.

Make sure not to use rubbing alcohol because rubbing alcohol contains glycerin

Hey great video. Install was well explained. To confirm, was it the matte black or solid black spoiler that matches exactly to the black trim on the model Y? I want to make sure I purchase the correct colour from Tesmanian before placing my order.

Much thanks. My wife opened the trunk and smacked the liftgate into the garage hinges and scratched the paint. The paint kit was worthless. But I don't see the rear spoiler.

this is ABS plastic with carbon fiber Matt on top surface! In China this only cost you 20-30 USD in retail, real 100% carbon fiber spoiler in China will cost you about $100 USD
I bought one in China and pay 100 dolllars for ocean shipping due to the size, but if you are buying 10 of spoiler from China. Shipping cost still $100 dollars due to dimension weight applied…

I've heard of quite a few. The spoiler definitely makes the back end look more complete IMO.
I'm amazed that the adhesive tape will hold this on the car. i would fear this would fall off in heavy wind and rain conditions or maybe a high pressure car wash.
Does the OEM Tesla spoiler install the same way?
OEM installs in the same manner. Same with other car manufacturers. Automotive double sided tape is strong stuff!
Where can I get those garage lights?
Cool garage! I like the videos, but I ordered this spoiler and the tape wouldn’t make contact on the bottom. The manufacturer website censors reviews. I have attempted two negative reviews of this product, but they only show positive reviews. I closely followed these instructions and ended up peeling the spoiler off because it wobbled up and down since the tape didn’t fully contact. I’ve asked for a refund, but I’ve been ignored.

I wonder how this spoiler is holding up after a year. It seems like a lot of the reviews say the edges are separating from the trunk so I'm hesitant to install it.

I have a question. I need to reattach the spoiler, I just bought my tesla it was a lease previously with one owner who took it off for whatever reason. I was told by the dealer to do the same thing you did in the video but just go get more adhesive tape. Would you recommend that?

I bought one and it doesn’t quite fit and it’s lifting on the outside edges. I noticed before I stuck it on and tried to position it so it would fit but it was still raised on the ends.

Erik, great video. I had my MY ceramic coated a couple of weeks ago. Do I need to do anything different installing the Tesmanian matte black spoiler? Or just follow your lead in the video?
it needs to be cleaned with a good cleaner...sayyyyyy dawn dish soap...2 times...then alcohol ...then use adhesion promoter.

Hey Eric, if I was to install a spoiler like that what would be the best way to remove it ? Heat gun and some alcohol to wipe away the adhesive?
Yeah, for removal I'd just sit it in the sun to warm the adhesive. Using a heat gun or hair dryer to heat it up would also help. Then use some thin spudger tools to get under a corner and work you way until you can grab it. Heat is your friend to soften up the adhesive. Alcohol will help remove any extra stuck adhesive.
How does it do in a carwash?
Does the car have ppf, is it ok to put it on top of ppf?

How is it holding up - Especially on the edges?
I noticed that when trying this on the fit is not as intimate as it could be. The left and right edges have a slight separation of 1-2mm. After your install to date has it stayed in place?
Does the spoiler help with all the dirt falling on the back rear around the licence plate?

@@88omarz that is my car in the video. Nothing special had to be done for the ceramic coat other than what Erik shows. Congrats on getting it coated, definitely makes a big difference I think.
@@SnowManson awesome! Thanks man. Yea I’ve always coated my cars. Makes cleaning much easier combined with ppf it’s a winning combo. Love the red btw. I lowered my y because I didn’t like the wheel gap and harsh ride. Def a worthy upgrade too.

@@gimmieboy I installed the tesmanian carbon fiber spoiler on my wrapped model Y. One month so issues, no issues on high wind highways. My front lip did mysteriously break off during the drive home from tesla takeover. I was sent a replacement so I’ll try to enforce this one myself.
No issues.
