The RUclips algorithm has failed. I've searched traditional Japanese music on RUclips for years, and only now have I stumbled upon the most beautiful pieces I've ever heard.
I agree. Often, all I could find are old, tinny-sounding pieces where the koto sounds atrocious. Thank goodness I had a high-quality CD by Ensemble Nipponia to prove to myself I was mishearing it. I still prefer shamisen and biwa to koto, but recordings like this do help me understand the instrument's appeal better. And there no midi-quality Western strings or "calming" chimes in the background, which is a plus.

I'm watching an anime called *Kono Oto Tomare* which is about a high school koto club. It's super interesting, especially for musicians. It also shows interiors which range from a super-cheap efficiency flat to an ultra-modern luxury condo, as well as traditional architecture and what I suppose might be called transitional styles. I had one of those "Well, duh..." moments last night when I realized how danged much space Japanese-style sliding doors save. How'd your exam go? Did mentally replaying this music help you recall what you studied?
