You have to respect Spike Lee's deep knowledge of Italian-Americans to be able to write scenes like this. It's one of the best and also kinda funniest scenes in movie history, in an otherwise very serious movie. It's just so good, and it's like outta Goodfellas their dialogue here. Just brilliant writing and directing.

Deep understanding... Nuyoricans and Italians do not act like that at all. Let alone the mannerisms or slang. Spaniards, not only being white with Penelope Cruz English accents, and certainly not being into tango like movies idiotically make them out to be, are white. Nuyoricans and Italians are not. You are dumb, Harry Anders.

      - Rosario Dawson. Her character in "He Got Game" was opportunistic & unfaithful whereas her character in "25th Hour" was kind & supportive.
      - Thomas Jefferson Byrd. A menacing enforcer in "Clockers" & a loving father in "Get on the Bus."
      - John Tuturro. Pino was a bigot w/ anger issues in "Do the Right Thing" and the easy-going, non-racist Paulie in "Jungle Fever."

It shows these guys were stuck in the 40s-50s era, when women were expected to stay home, have kids and be trapped in a shitty relationship with guys like Vinny! Paulie was only decent guy.
