What Beane did yesterday was necessary. Like it was mentioned in this podcast, KC did it just TWO years ago. How'd that work out? Posterity is a beautiful thing, and memories are too. Several of these players were the heart and fabric of this team, but the time had come. Especially with the cap situation. I personally have met Poyer - he is a relative of my cousin through marriage - and when we met him before a Bills game several years ago I was FLOORED at what a genuinely awesome guy he is. Even going out of his way to autograph a mini football for my nephew's little boy. Heck, we even had a chance to walk in the end zone with other players' family and friends in small groups with security watching after the game. He arranged that for us, which was super cool of him. So yea, he is MORE than just a great player, he is a great guy too, but he'll be fine. It sucks, but this is the nature of the game. These will be moves that most likely WILL pay off. I have a LOT of respect and confidence in Beane.

I was expecting both Poyer and White to be released because it just felt like it was time. Love both players and wish them a long happy life after football. I did not see the Morse cut coming at all though. I kind of feel like they will regret that decision sometime next year. Not that Morse was unreplaceable but he was fairly good and reliable. With all the injuries of the last 2 seasons I would think a guy like him would be safe roster wise. I guess we will see come September how much depth the O-line has.

I can't believe these guys are all gone. I am so upset. I hope that we can get Poyer back with Hyde somehow, I just see way too many holes to fill, and them with a third young safety would be absolutely perfect for the Bills secondary. Same with Tre White, if we can get him back for a good deal it would be very good for solid depth. However, I am officially terrified about the experience on this defense... plays like the Poyer forced fumble to literally save the game against Kansas City are not going to happen. Penalty free games are going to be a thing of the past. I am sure that McDermott will craft a damn good team, but it will take time for him to build experience.
I am also terrified that this means that a first round cornerback is coming. I think that this would be a terrible move. We desperately need more pieces for Josh Allen. Let's give him the weapons he needs to DOMINATE. Let's get it done Buffalo!!!

Had to pause! Mike, IMO is correct! WR first round, if not, D line, WR 2nd round. I don't recall a center ever going first over all and not very many O line players even get picked in the first round. Since the current management has been there, they've made pretty good pics. As well as can be expected. I don't understand the knee jerk reaction that I'm sure half the fan base will annoyingly reflect on in the same way! This could have happened 2 yrs ago. Maybe we should have? No one is even talking about that. Safety is equal to Running back, with a longer shelf life, which means high supply and low demand...buyers market!.... It's how we got Poyer and Hyde in the first place! They are replaceable, and I agree that they are both ring of honor members, and that they should be along side each other! Ok I'm adding to this...you caught up to me!

Yes ! find younger, faster guys -- The culture has to grow these guys. Be "The Guy" - Make the Play. But? Mitch being gone is scary. We need a pretty big guy to fill Mitch Morse's shoes. Change the front O-line act - More motion, Pulling Guards, faster Sweeps & more options on the RPOs. GO BILLS

While 2000 was very sad to see Reed, Thomas and Smith go, there were all well into their mid 30s and showing signs of decline. Here Morse is still a top center and massive leader, Jordan still can play and Tre is Tre. It’s hard to see them go. It’s not going to be the same for sure.

The Chiefs didn't purge their roster to get under the cap, they got "young" over a few seasons of great drafting.

Morse is the one that surprised me! You could count on one hand his missed exchanges. I can't recall one missed com/bad play. He gives 110% every play! As much as I love Tre, he missed and got paid for 2 years. NOT his fault, the cookie just crumbled that way. I also think the world of Poyer and Hyde! They could go down as the all time best safety set in Bills history. They are starting to have injuries, they lost a step and a 1/2. In the field of opportunity it's plowing time again. This could be just the start. I have a feeling next year is going to look very different. I hope they get a fullback! A 6 yard bulldozer to keep #17 from doing the "tush push" and other things like that, and can block! Maybe throw the ball too. I don't want much LOL LOL. 8) --gary

Wonder Mitch Morses market is or what he’s looking for in terms of $ amount in FA.
If Arizona didn’t have 6”5/310 Hjalte Froholdt I’d LOVE for AZ to add him but Froholdt is an elite dominant run blocker n has started greatly improving in pass protection.
Personally I think AZ will sign an elite OG like Michael Owenu who’s a BEAST vs the run to stack at RG next to RT Paris Johnson forming one of the scariest RG/RT Duos n the game moving Will Hernandez to LG n then drafting 6”8/330 Tyler Guyton to play LT. They should have a dominant top 5-10 OL n front of Murray next year.

These moves are all about salary cap first, and getting younger next. Please do not kid yourself, Bills were $50 million over the cap I need to be compliant by the start of the NFL new year. Exactly what New England has done and what Kansas City is doing now. BTW it is estimated the salary cap will be $300 million by 2027. Nice article by the Ringer laid the salary cap future out after the 2020 season. FYI Von is gone after next season and maybe Dawkins.

Mika to me will retire right after the league year. It's something to do with contract stuff that he needs to be cut or let the contract run out before he makes it public.
Also I wouldn't be surprised if he keeps up appearances in Buffalo his charity work and possibly the same kind of stuff as the 90s Bills players.

Getting young is good but the Chiefs are already young and have a QB who's taken up 15% of the cap and won two SBs while doing so. So the Bills couldn't get past the Chiefs when they were facing all the issues the Bills are BEGINNING to face. Steep hill.
