Overall a really good list. If I might suggest something, then I would recommend Dragon Warrior III and IV. Great video. I grew up in this era and it was a magical time from which I have many found memories. I got a NES in the summer of 1987 for my 11th birthday and spent a ton of time with most of these games. Metroid, Punch Out, Zelda1, and FF1 would be my personal favorites. My under-the-radar pick from this system is Spelunker, a game that didn't have nearly the commercial success or popularity.
Great list. Two that may arguably belong: Crystalis (amazing adventure game that rivals Zelda in its depth) and R.C. Pro-Am (phenomenal racing game for the NES). Those would make my list.
Great list. A couple of my favorites are Crystalis and Super Dodge Ball, though I'd expect them to be low on a list like this. I agree that SMB3 and the original Zelda are the two best games on the system. Just incredible titles.
After seeing crystalis gameplay in the intro i was excited, but unfortunately it was just a tease. I put crystalis in my top 20 easily. Possibly top 10.
In case anyone out there was unaware, Super Mario 2 wasn't a Mario game. It was an Arabian Nights themed game called Doki Doki Panic, and the four characters was this Arabian family. You actually had to get all 4 characters through every level in order to win. When it was transformed into Super Mario 2 they of course reskinned the main characters, added a run button, only required you to go through the stages once, and I believe the warp zones were a new addition as well.
And the prototype of this game was a Mario game, but Miyamoto didn't like the idea. FujiTV asked Nintendo to make a game of their characters and they continued the development of Doki Doki Panic but with different characters
Especially Zelda II which every game duplicates as a side scrolling adventure game and a leveling system that was fun and customizable that to this day hasn’t been replicated.
Guys , i am looking for a NES game i played in my childhood. It was a 2D side scrolling game where the main character would spit out a brick or multiple brick on pressing a button. The main character would walk on those that bricks too. At the end of each level , a puzzle piece would be given to the player. All the puzzle piece would create a painting of some sort. Guys , i have watched many many youtube videos for all NES games but am still unable to find that game. Can someone pls pls pls help me. PS : sorry for my bad english.

Your list is better than the list presented in this video! 😁👍 I'd swap out a few (mainly down to me not growing up with them), but you have many solid, unique titles listed here.
You listed some bangers that I grew up with. 2 3 4 6 9-8 10 11 13 14 (Did you break your fingers playing co-op? 😅) 15 16 17 18 19 I put Willow - Battle of Olympus - Tiny Toon Adventure way up on my list. I also played some Rygar - Wacky Races (wasn't about racing. Just the dog sidescroller.) Among other awesome games 😊
Solstice. No one ever mentions this isometric view, masterpiece of a puzzle game. The soundtrack is so amazing, too. Decent list, but too many side-scrollers IMHO. Snake Rattle n' Roll was another isometric view game that was really amazing.
Shadowgate is still one of my faves. I even got my son into it and we've had a lot of fun playing it together. Also has some of my favorite NES music. I guess the only downside is that there isn't as much replay value but we still enjoy doing a speedrun or just playing for old time's sake.
Mega Man 2 was the first game I ever got on NES. It took me forever to beat that game, and when I did my parents let me have a beer. I was 9. It was the best memory I will ever have.
Cool.. I have all of these still, except final fantasy and dragon warrior. I've never been much of an RPG fan. I would add Snake Rattle N Roll, and Little Nemo Dream Master instead 😁 19:03

I'm pretty sure when Super Mario 3 came out, it cost $80.00, which was ridiculously expensive. However, it was one of the best games of all time for NES.
I’d have Super C over the first Contra. There’s no need to put two Mega Man games on this list, just keep the 2nd on there. I’d replace the third Mega Man with Crystalis. But the rest I can understand your opinion of.
Solid list. Personally, I'd remove maniac mansion, one of the mega man games, super mario 2, batman, ducktales and replace them with tecmo super bowl, battletoads, marble madness, ghosts n goblins, double dragon 2. Honorable mentions for me: super dodgeball, Star tropics, Crystalis, Super off road, rc pro am, micro machines, double dribble, dragon warrior 3, TMNT, ice hockey
Mighty Final Fight TMNT & TMNT Tournament fighters Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle Double Dragon II & III Adventure Island III Thexder Nekketsu Dunk Heroes Renegade Super Contra Astyanax And more awesome games missed here
Your top three is perfect, but your omission of any sports games is glaring. RBI baseball? Tecmo Bowl? 10 Yard Fight? Bases Loaded? You’re British. Fine. How about Star Tropics? Ice Climber?
The Nintendo Entertainment System had so many wonderful games. I love that the NES has been affordable for the past few years compared other retro gaming consoles.
I loved RC Pro Am
Crystalis was definitely a good one.
Hell yeah RC Pro-Am got to put Double Dragon 2 in there of course I think I would have done an honorable mention with Beetlejuice also
I played Tetris for 4 hours and 18 minutes off one game. It was insane! I was on a roll…
Castlevania, Mega Man 3, and Ninja Gaiden 2 have always been my favorite, in part because of the music.
Going back all these years later and playing SMB2, I think it's my favorite. It's so different and fun.
It's creepy.
@@joshcoughx that quick sand.....
Kid Icarus should have been on this list, As well as Bionic Commando and Tiger Helli
I would find it hard to believe that anyone who games hasn't heard of this.
And the prototype of this game was a Mario game, but Miyamoto didn't like the idea. FujiTV asked Nintendo to make a game of their characters and they continued the development of Doki Doki Panic but with different characters
Very good list. But Tecmo Bowl / Tecmo Super Bowl, Shadow of the Ninja, Kung Fu, Jackal, Double Dragon II, and Zelda II deserve this list as well.
Especially Zelda II which every game duplicates as a side scrolling adventure game and a leveling system that was fun and customizable that to this day hasn’t been replicated.
Shocked Blaster Master isn’t on this
Or Metal Gear!
Great list. I would've included Battletoads and SMB2 (Japan).
Battletoads!!!!!

I saw Metal Gear and Vice: Project Doom in the intro and got excited, then he got on with the same list that virtually all other RUclipsrs make. :(
I still have my kid’s old Game Boy and DS, and I still like to play Super Mario 2 & 3, Super Mario World, Yoshi’s World, and Super Mario 64.
With the Nes it's hard to put out a "Top #" list with so many great and fantastic games for the Nes. I'm just stoked that I was a 80s kid and experienced the Nes era. You 80s kid know what's up!!!
I liked Jaws, Punisher, California games, Narc, yo noid, POW, TC surf design too
1. Mike Tyson's punchout

Your list is better than the list presented in this video! 😁👍
I'd swap out a few (mainly down to me not growing up with them), but you have many solid, unique titles listed here.
You listed some bangers that I grew up with.

I put Willow - Battle of Olympus - Tiny Toon Adventure way up on my list.
I also played some Rygar - Wacky Races (wasn't about racing. Just the dog sidescroller.)
Among other awesome games 😊
Kid Icarus??
Very similar to Castlevania but... Let's be honest here, it's not as good.
Sucks
I got it in my top 20 listed above
OH.....Forgot about that one! Definitely deserves to be on the list.
I can always depend on your top 20 lists to be some way off UK perspective. Thanks for not disappointing again lol
No worries!
My first mega man game was mega man 3. I loved it.i still do
Crystalis needs to be on the list! Lol
Solstice. No one ever mentions this isometric view, masterpiece of a puzzle game. The soundtrack is so amazing, too.
Decent list, but too many side-scrollers IMHO. Snake Rattle n' Roll was another isometric view game that was really amazing.
Faxanadu deserves a spot in the Top 20!
Tecmo Super Bowl never gets any credit on these lists and is easily top 20, really much higher
My all time top 5 NES
1. River City Ransom
2. The Legend of Zelda
3. TMNT 2 the Arcade Game
4. Castlevania 3
5. Mega Man 2
"It could...drag-on." Masterpiece.
Without Battletoads this list is a joke. No Double Dragon? River City Ransom? Personally I like Shadowgate better than Maniac Mansion.
Shadowgate is still one of my faves. I even got my son into it and we've had a lot of fun playing it together. Also has some of my favorite NES music. I guess the only downside is that there isn't as much replay value but we still enjoy doing a speedrun or just playing for old time's sake.
3 Nes games i would play today, timeless games that were ahead of their time:
-fire n ice
-tetris
-duck hunt
Mega Man 2 was the first game I ever got on NES. It took me forever to beat that game, and when I did my parents let me have a beer. I was 9. It was the best memory I will ever have.
Great list man! When SM3 came out it was amazing. I remember first seeing it in The Wizard and wanting to pay it so bad.
I feel like you need to add the first GI Joe game on here.
Snake eyes maxed out ftw
I spent the most time playing Zelda 1&2,Super Mario 1&2,Ghosts and Goblins and Punch out.
Jackal , Lupin the third, tmnt tournament fighters, ninja cats, double dragon 2&3 , fatal fox , all deserve a honorary mention
Some fantastic games. I played more than I thought. MM Zelda, FF DW Mario were awsome.
I would have to say River City Ransom was one of the best NES games I ever played. I hope it makes the list
You start the list with Maniac Mansion?? You bet im here for the rest. ❤
Cool.. I have all of these still, except final fantasy and dragon warrior. I've never been much of an RPG fan. I would add Snake Rattle N Roll, and Little Nemo Dream Master instead 😁 19:03
I still play Nemo every now and then. It's very difficult but fun and wonky enough to keep you playing.
I'm enjoying this video/list, but TECMO Super Bowl has to be on here.
So many great games on the NES. Faxanadu was one of my favorites!
The NES is the greatest 8 bit console of all time.
A friend and i went to walmart and bought 8 copies of Kirby's anventure at $5 a pop. Then took them back to places like kmart, sears, circuit city, etc, and got $60 a back for each. not a bad days work
We all have different favourites , but this list contains 20 games that at least can be considered top contenders.
Faxanadu, Bionic Commando, Strider, and River City Ransom.
We could argue about the placement of the various games, but our list is pretty much perfect.
Bionic comando, battletoads, goal, double dribble, super spike/World Cup, 1942, excitebike, so many other games that could/should’ve made the list 😮
Solid list. Personally, I'd remove maniac mansion, one of the mega man games, super mario 2, batman, ducktales and replace them with tecmo super bowl, battletoads, marble madness, ghosts n goblins, double dragon 2.
Honorable mentions for me: super dodgeball, Star tropics, Crystalis, Super off road, rc pro am, micro machines, double dribble, dragon warrior 3, TMNT, ice hockey
Super off road: stacking turbos and pissing off your whole family lol
I will save everyone the trouble 1-18 Tecmo Bowl, 19 Metroid, 20 kung-fu.
Mighty Final Fight
TMNT & TMNT Tournament fighters
Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle
Double Dragon II & III
Adventure Island III
Thexder
Nekketsu Dunk Heroes
Renegade
Super Contra
Astyanax
And more awesome games missed here
Your top three is perfect, but your omission of any sports games is glaring. RBI baseball? Tecmo Bowl? 10 Yard Fight? Bases Loaded? You’re British. Fine. How about Star Tropics? Ice Climber?
Any list with 'KIRBY' is a perfect list...
I rem creating a list of games from the dreaded '99999-in-1'.. It was fun 😅
Life Force should be on the list. Also, Castlevania 3 > Castlevania.
1. Mega man 2
2. Smb 3
3. Star tropics
4. Kirbys adventure
5. Metroid
6. Castlevania
7. Battletoads
8. Super mario
9. Contra
10. Tmnt 2
I like "The Bully" music in the background lol
“Wilst thou champion my cause?”
“No.”
“But thou must!”
+1 for Tecmo. Also, Dr Mario needs some love.
I'll add two of my faves: Rygar and Jackal.
Good list and summaries! I'm particularly glad to see Konami so well represented here, and I can easily agree with your top 5s 👍
Mario cart? Simpsons, metal gear? Gradious, good list though.
The Nintendo Entertainment System had so many wonderful games. I love that the NES has been affordable for the past few years compared other retro gaming consoles. Also the end with Shigeru Miyamoto was great. Imagine Shigeru Miyamoto coming out in a Nintendo Direct and offering to make a new F-Zero game that would be amazing. Cool video. ^_^
Good list but was surprised Tecmo Bowl and Life Force weren't on it.
I'm playing threw FF1 currently. Played and beat most of these titles. We loved our video games.
