I got my first DJ gig this year at 50 years old. I met a guy hitchhiking who was listening to some bassy whomp and I gave him my SoundCloud. He threw a party with 9 other DJs and I played second. After the party I got asked to play a monthly slot at the local brewery and will be playing a Bass night showcase at a larger bar in May. I've been a closet/bedroom dj and producer for 7 years (with some tracks getting underground radio play across the world). If I hadn't had tracks up on Soundcloud he might not have asked me to play.
Loved the video!!! Just did my first GIG for a beach club this summer and it was absolutely fantastic. My main DJ goals in the next 12 months are to get more gigs and stand out from the rest, be unique! #wearecrossfader
About 10 months ago, one of the sleepless nights I was scrolling through RUclips, I came across a DJ performing absolutely killer mixes and decided to purchase my first DJ controller on Amazon. Seeing the video and buying the controller probably took less than 5 minutes. The controller came the day after, and I opened it up with great excitement. The next step was to learn how to use it properly. As I played the drums for +8 years, it took me 1-2 months to perfect my beatmatching and start coming up with mixes. They were not perfect, but I knew that I was definitely on track. I was always too scared to share my work due to my perfectionist personality and always keeping my mixes to myself. In the 7th month, I have decided to start promoting myself and casually telling people I DJ in my bedroom. One of my friends mentioned a DJing competition at the university that would happen later that month and said it would be a perfect opportunity for me as a new DJ. I signed up without a second thought and came up with a fantastic tech-house set. I practised it day and night have put my heart and soul into it. I won the competition and got offered to play at the university's Christmas Party. I was so excited for my first gig and putting myself out there after a few months of hard work. Saying that the Christmas Party was empty would be an understatement. There was a maximum of 10 people listening and vibing to the music; the rest acted like it was playing off Spotify. So I did what all the pro DJs recommended and did not force the crowd to listen to my music. I tuned it down a bit and let people have an easier conversation while mixing in the background. The venue owner was happy; I have completed the set without any issues. But I didn't hear back since. Until... Fast forward a few more months to 3 weeks ago yesterday; I was getting ready to go to the pub(where I DJed for the Christmas Party) to do some karaoke and listen to some cheesy music played by the venue's resident DJ. I got an email saying if I could cover for the DJ as he cancelled last minute. I instantly said yes, packed my bag and went to the venue. There were 350-400 people in the venue, most of them dancing. The venue owner said it was one of their best nights of this year and asked me to play for another week. I have currently received my residency after playing for 3 weeks. The moral of the story is to grind as much as you can. Get the word out that you DJ and focus on getting better. If I did this, so can you.
This is an absolutely awesome story. Super inspiring and really proves that being patient, being professional, and being reliable really does get you places. Thanks a lot for sharing your story, Bora! ⭐
Mines really a small goal in the grand scheme, but for me it's huge! I'm a nan with 4 grandchildren & in lockdown I decided to keep the old grey matter ticking over by releasing my inner youngie & doing what I'd wanted to do 30+yrs ago. I'm due to move house soon after a nightmare 18mths, cowboy builders, problem after problem, non stop nightmare. My current set up I can only use it standing, so use is restricted because I can't stand for long periods. So my goal when I finally move is to have a designated area for my gear, that I can use standing or sitting, so I can spend more time learning, experimenting & feeling young!
Thank you Cross Fader My main goals as a BBDJ (Blind Beginer DJ) are, 1 Start a youtube tutorial channel, to help other music lovers that are blind, and want to learn how to DJ. 2 To host regular events in my community, to give other DJ's and myself a platform to gain experience and exposure, beginning with the first event in October called, A NIGHT AS A HOLLYWOOD STAR! #wearecrossfader
my first gig was a houseparty for someone on the estate I live on and it was going really well until someone spilt a drink on my speaker lol. I've done a few with my dad as he's a magician at weddings so whenever he needs a DJ i jump behind the decks for him which helps more than he knows. I love this channel so much, literally everything I need to know is on here and it's made me a 10x better DJ, i'm only 17 so i've a long way to go but watching you guys does so much for my development. I will 100000000% be buying a couple courses soon. Keep it up fellas, legends.
My main goal DJ goal for the next 12 months is to increase my knowledge on crowd control and also complete a few tours on the way. I’m looking to grow as a DJ and expand to where more people know who I am. #wearecrossfader
My first gig was through a group in NYC called AEMPD (association of electronic music producers & DJs) and they do a montly event where they give members as well as regular attendees of the event to hop on the decks for a 30 min set. Still trying to get more gigs but I have faith and I'm determined so for now I'm recording live sets and throwing them up on line and making fun mash ups and remixes as well as some of my own original tracks.
Thank you guys for always creating free content that would turn a beginner in to a pro DJ . My goal for the next 12months is to dj at a very top level, like concert and bigger event. #wearecrossfader
I got my first gig by sending message to the people hosted the fist future house event in our city. I was a huge fan of the genre at the time. The event was so bad & l send l list of thinks to fix for the next time. when next time came l was the one there who was fix the problems & l got to DJ 🌵
What's up Crossfader, I throughly enjoyed this video from all the pro djs sharing their knowledge of the DJ industry. Ever since I discovered crossfader, I have studied and used your content from courses and the hub. In the next 12 months my goals are to elevate my skills as a DJ, by taking more dj courses and continuing to promote myself as a dj.
Good vibes as always ! #wearecrossfader My dream is to bring a big happy smile on my friend's faces listening to my set with seamless transitions at my dream festival I am going to organize for them
My first live Dj set was in a local electronic music community event. That was in 2003. Brought my own mixer and CD-Players and that secured the gig and many events for later. I've played gigs on multiple continents and agree with the social media, humility and persistence advices. Since that family life with small kids and being busy with handling all the daytime work and stress have led to a dry season with playing the gigs in public more than few times a year. Covid had it's part there as well... Now kids getting older and more independent, so I've been planning for reactivating my Dj business. So all the advice given here is not so easy to follow, depending on the life situation and time available for networking and honing your social media presence and skills. Thanks for the video!
I'm just a respectful professional DJ with all different genres of music with good taste of music, I grew up from taste of music with nothing but respect, when I share a good mixes to the people when I see people react they have a good time with it and have fun with it and it makes me feel good as a DJ.
First of all, loved the video! I enjoyed seeing you guys collaborate with different DJs in this video; I definitely took a lot from it. I've learned from watching your guy's videos is that I need to put myself more out there in terms of DJing. I've made a couple mixes on TikTok, Soundcloud and RUclips, but I recently just started college, so I haven't had too much time to work on those as much. But every now and then, I would practice in my bedroom, and if I'm being honest, it would always bring a tear to my face. DJing makes me happy, and for the next 12 months, I would love nothing more than to play in front of an actual crowd playing the music that I love and to grow my followings! #wearecrossfader
all great tips. some of these I used to start getting some of my first gigs and about a year later Im now getting support slots for touring acts on a regular basis and playing some cool gigs in my city. Always be professional, shoot your shot, use content as your resume, and get more content from the gig! Wishing everyone a prosperous 2024 🔥
It's really great of you guys for bringing us some of the most successful dj's around the world and also some of them are our role models....right now i can't say that i want to be like this dj but infact i want want to be me and maybe wish that i become hardworking as they are or creative as they are. So in 12 months i'm looking forward to become the party and the vibe to the people as a dj and get the best gigs and best opportunities as a dj and also be able to help other upcoming dj's so that they can also shine. #wearecrossfader
I'm working on getting not so many gigs, but the "right" ones to express myself musically - the ones that attract an audience curious and interested in the fusion of musical genres that forms my artistic signature. #wearecrossfader
awesome video, always delivering the minerals that dj's wanna see/hear. my goal is to play festivals and events to show the world you're never too old to rock it even at 50yo plus! its not about age, its about the vibes you play. bless up! #wearecrossfader
My dj goal for the next 12 months is getting a residency at a club in my city. Been trying for a minute but I am determined after watching this video. Great tips. #wearecrossfader
My first gig was an event for teens in the city hall. An organism was looking for a dj who was in high school and it was a silent DJ 30 min gig to open the event. Since then I got (and still getting) a few gigs from that organism
You guys have helped me so much with your courses! My main DJ goals in the next 12 months are to get more gigs and stand out from the rest, be unique! #wearecrossfader
My first gig was a wedding for some fans of our twitch stream where we dj. We as in myself and my DJ partner DJ Blue. It was an eye opener and I am very happy I was able to go to a different city and play. My first online set was in a video game named ffxiv. That made me nervous. I am learning how to get myself out there and this has such a great help. I have several notes and will start putting all this in motion soon! Thank you!!!
Thank you for sharing! My goals for the next few months are to launch my twitch channel, set up a mini studio at home and play at least one international event. ✨
I got my first gig doing a high school dance. I made some cassettes and distributed them throughout the school for free! When it was time for the dance many students asked the Teachers to have me do the dance. Over 3000 kids came to the dance, even kids from other schools were trying to get in! From then I played all the dances until graduation! #wearecrossfader
Thanks for the contest. My main goal in the next 12 months is to find one or two places whete i can DJ so there's more opportunities for me to been hirrd #wearecrossfader
I been djing since 1989 (season veteran) I do mostly weddings . Open format dj, mostly Latin weddings. I am a single-op. Yes, I drive to my gigs, set up & break down, MC & dj by my self!!! most of my business comes from word of mouth, some from Yelp. I was averaging 1-3 gigs for month but since June 1st of 2022, I been busy every weekend (16 gigs and counting) I am not in any way shape or form interested in a club gig. In my market (California Central Coast) club gigs pay peanuts. so in the next 12 months, my goal is to 1st. get a helper and buy a 2nd set up so I can hire someone to take the overload gigs that I can't do which I sometimes end up turning down because I'm booked on a certain day. Thank you guys for all the content you guys post/make. #wearecrossfader
my first gig was at a small nightclub in bogota, I gave one of the DJs there a few tips a couple years before the gig and we remained friends, one day he just called and told me they needed a extra dj
Thanks Crossfader for all the content that you produce; big up from being a U.K. org as well! I’ve been a bedroom DJ for the past few months and so far have played at a couple of hours parties with friends. My goal for the next 12 months is to actually play in a club - and this video will definitely help me get there! #WeAreCrossfader
Loving the humility of these guys all starting out for free for the pure love of doing it. Puts me at ease knowing they all started from humble beginnings. I'm hoping that the next 12 months will help me improve my DJing to carry out my first public gig, an invite from a family member for a very important birthday event. Very nervous about it but want to improve and use my control of filters and FX to greater effect. Thanks for all you hard work guys and for making it fun. #wearecrossfader
Thank you Lawrence. My goal for the next twelve months is to learn and grow as a novice DJ, thru playing at some venues (youth clubs, bars, street fairs etc.) and getting known in my province and hopefully some cities outside my province. #wearecrossfader
My DJ Goal for the next 12 months is to get more DJ gigs. I have had 2 gigs and in about a month I have another one that I got from playing at the other two. I realized very quickly at my first gig that my transitions didn't mater and it was ALL about the music I choose. #wearecrossfader
Loved this everyone, great work as always! My aim for the next 12 months is MASTER the courses I bought from you guys, an move from DJing for friends at parties to DJing at the best bar in town, that place goes off every weekend without fail #wearecrossfader
I’ve only played parties, no social media yet. Each party i’ve done everyone has come to me saying they loved the music I’ve played. I want to take it to the next step
My current dj goal for the next 12 months is to play at parties if not getting my first gig. Taking djing as a hobby is fun and crossfader courses really helps on the way! #wearecrossfader
I got my first gig in early May, from a DJ I found in a local newspaper. He hit me up, asking if I wanted to try out a gig at a local bar. After posting several videos of me doing mixes and beats. I had my first (entry level) controller for only 2 weeks. Since then, I have had 3 residencies, DJed for Disney, Daytona 500, Guess, a Millionaire's Birthday Party, a wedding, as well as several Clubs, Gyms, Restaurants, Bars and Resorts (including one on the ocean) . That's just THIS SUMMER. I also got to fill in for DJs who work for the NBA, NFL, and MLS. My biggest advice is be polite, always build a rapport with the staff and owners, and KEEP YOUR EGO AT HOME. My goal is to continue gaining experience and build a solid network. I also want to tighten up my quick mixing and MC skills. #wearecrossfader
Best advice is go to the club or venue you want to dj at. Clubs want new djs constantly because they bring new faces. Show up with a crowd of people that wanna see you dj
I'm working towards setting my brand as a wedding/event DJ in my new area... already playing local festivals for free and using those as marketing for the event business... some dates already scheduled and a few events done! :) #wearecrossfader
Thanks crossfader for encouraging we upcoming dj to stay relevant to the game and putting all the best djs in this video, really love it ❤️ My main dj goal for the next 12 months is to get my own gear I'm dreaming of .
First off, kudos for compiling such a great group of DJs to feature in this video! In the next 12 months, I would like to increase my social visibility and increase social engagement based on the skills and ideas I demonstrate in my video content. This video offered great advice and was motivational to watch! Thanks! #wearecrossfader
Hey PREPMODE, We loved this comment and have chosen you as the winner of our internal competition. Please reply to the competition email and we will issue your prize/ Thanks again, Crossfader
Iam new cumer in djing I went to know djing n I know ili bit. I connect my soul wen I play my set so I went to learn more n more n make people soul happy 😊 thankuuu🖤
This video is awesome 🔥🔥🔥 Thanks very much for it, I'm really motivated! My goal for next year is to transit my Djing from a home hobby to side hustle and then to jobjob and get a regular gigs on local venues. Even thinking of doing a blog about it this process! I know about your courses and liked it but still saving up for them. #wearecrossfader
Thank you all for all your info.. My main focus for the next 12 months is to learn the art of scratching and make use of it in my sets... #wearecrossfader
My first gig is djing at a festival and I entered into it by sending in a mix suggested to me by my friend 😂 (ngl , I'm a tiny bit anxious but so so excited)
I got my first gig from promting my mixcloud mixtapes on my whatsapp statuses! Which turned into me being a resident dj at a local (latino- trini) bar here in Tobago W.I .
You guys have helped me so much with your courses And dj hub! My main dj goals in the next 12 months are to get more gigs and continue getting better on my scratching! Thanks for all the valuable content! #wearecrossfader
My DJing goal for the next 12 months is performing in my local venue where I used to watch other DJs perform. I WILL make it happen 🔥🔥 #wearecrossfader Sick video btw!
Thanks Crossfader for all the amazing content. I can't wait to do my first gig, and this video definitely helps. My main dj goal is to have a few gigs before the end of this year. Small or big doesn't really matter. Big goal is to play at the Sound Night club in LA. #wearecrossfader.
It all balls down to humility and respect. Really appreciate this piece. My goal for the next 12 months is to be booked every weekend. #wearecrossfader
Love this video, thanks so much as always Crossfader team! I am hoping to release my first produced track on all streaming platforms before 2023! #wearecrossfader)
Thanks for all your support. I plan to continue to evolve and develop my live improvisation style using electronic beats - creating beats on the fly to make songs richer while infusing new energy (just like scratching - but with electronic sampled beats). #wearecrossfader
Loved the video! You guys have inspired me to actually try to start this kind of art as a hobby. For the next 12 months, I will save up to get a decent controller, and practice made perfect :D. I really want to play some fire sets with my friends. Let's go! #wearecrossfader
I have two goals. The first one is to gather more contacts for private and birthday parties. The second one is to have a successful first non-private gig (circa in a month) and to do an even bigger summer opener! #wearecrossfader
Lovely stuff 💯 Currently working to secure gigs in a new venue that opened in my city recently, so this is my goal for the next 6 months. If I were to dream big, I would like secure a residency there within the next 12 months.
My 2 goals for the next 12 months: -I want to establish myself as a regular in the local club scene, at least 1 opening slot per month through this fall/winter/spring. -I want to bag multiple festival slots next summer. #wearecrossfader
I already figured this out, and i’m only 17. Part of it is knowing the right people and I happened to know someone who was part of a music foundation, and that foundation is promoting my stuff, getting me signed with a record studio, and giving me gig after gig. I got a big one coming up soon and I got a massive set (around 2hrs) for them. I plan to bring a house mixed with pop/hip hop vibe to this gig.
I'm planning on investing a lot more time into this hobby of mine. There's so many different branches I want to go down, and there's no time like the present to explore them. From different genres to new techniques, these next 12 months are going to be about discovery and progress! #wearecrossfader
thanks for the vid! I’m a Dj in chicago and have been doing it for about 4 years here. I’ve been having an issue with being asked to Dj venues and the Chemistry is great with the owners and guests but when it comes to speaking with the bookers it seems like everything falls flat. There have been many cases where I have played a venue or was featured for a guest set and the venue will request to have my information or ask me to email them to follow up and it falls flat come the following week. So I’ll stop by the venue talk with the booker and management and they’ll apologize and ask to send another email and lmao it’s crickets. This seems very common in my city. And for the most part if I’m booked I’m very lucky to be asked back but I’ve had trouble keeping venues past a few months where it seems booking just forgets to schedule me and there will be a two to three moth gap before I’m able to play for the venue again. I’ve noticed venues don’t like to set up agreements or contracts to play a spot for a set amount of time (example 3month to a year once a month or bi weekly) with an option for both parties to renew the agreement. If you have any strategy’s to keeping a gig or setting up a deal with a venue just incase someone simply forgot to rebook me I’d really appreciate some advice.
Biggups biggups crossfader!! I plan to get a good at this local bar, expand my horizons and learn how to play other tunes other than DnB, and maybe take a few lessons online. Maybe build a brand! I love love love this shit!! The boom and the bap!! Stayup#wearecrossfader

Excellent tutorial and highly recommend! I’m working towards building the confidence to perform live keep up the great work team!
My dj goal for the next 12 months is getting a residency at a club in my city. Been trying for a minute but I am determined after watching this video. Great tips. #wearecrossfader
Did you make it?
Getting on more vendor preferred list and event planner preferred list is my main DJ goal for the next 12 months #wearecrossfader.
Vital information… Thanks Crossfader team 💯💯🔥🔥
Pleasure
My goal by summer of 23 is to play at least one large festival. This video is a great starting place! Thank you!
A very big thanks for your contents 👍👍👍👍❤️
Super helpful, thank you for great content as always
After a 30yr break from Djing im getting back into it with a goal of playing a house party (once a month) or even a festival! #wearecrossfader.
I enjoyed this video ! Nice ❤
my first gig was at a small nightclub in bogota, I gave one of the DJs there a few tips a couple years before the gig and we remained friends, one day he just called and told me they needed a extra dj
I'm working on getting an inhouse gig at a local club here in town #wearecrossfader
Love from India bro
I'm just starting out my DJ journey and my 12 month plan is to perform at the local club! Hard work pays off! #wearecrossfader
My DJing goal for the next 12 months is to perform outdoor with a larger audience #wearecrossfader
I'm working towards setting my brand as a wedding/event DJ in my new area... already playing local festivals for free and using those as marketing for the event business... some dates already scheduled and a few events done! :) #wearecrossfader
Thanks crossfader for encouraging we upcoming dj to stay relevant to the game and putting all the best djs in this video, really love it ❤️
My main dj goal for the next 12 months is to get my own gear I'm dreaming of .
I love this content. I learned a lot. Thank you so much Crossfader crew!👏👏👏

My first gig is djing at a festival and I entered into it by sending in a mix suggested to me by my friend 😂
(ngl , I'm a tiny bit anxious but so so excited)
I got my first gig from promting my mixcloud mixtapes on my whatsapp statuses! Which turned into me being a resident dj at a local (latino- trini) bar here in Tobago W.I .
You guys have helped me so much with your courses And dj hub! My main dj goals in the next 12 months are to get more gigs and continue getting better on my scratching! Thanks for all the valuable content! #wearecrossfader
Wonderful advice, that I will put to use. Thank you guys for making such great content!
I needed to see this because my value is great after doing a gig last night with broken “industry standard “ equipment
My DJing goal for the next 12 months is performing in my local venue where I used to watch other DJs perform. I WILL make it happen 🔥🔥 #wearecrossfader
Sick video btw!
Let’s get it 👏👏
Thanks Crossfader for all the amazing content. I can't wait to do my first gig, and this video definitely helps. My main dj goal is to have a few gigs before the end of this year. Small or big doesn't really matter. Big goal is to play at the Sound Night club in LA. #wearecrossfader.
My goal is to get a DJ slot at Shambhala! #wearecrossfader
Thanks for the video! My goal is to come back djing live after 20 years! ❤️🔥😊✌️
My dj goal for the next 12 months is was too busy and playing at big crowd as open concert .Great tips. #wearecrossfader
It all balls down to humility and respect. Really appreciate this piece. My goal for the next 12 months is to be booked every weekend. #wearecrossfader
Thanks guys! Really helpful to us starting out. My main goal is to book at least 30 gigs over the next 12 months :) #wearecrossfader
My main aim is to be playing at clubs by this time next year #wearecrossfader
Time to get to work 🫡
Love this video, thanks so much as always Crossfader team! I am hoping to release my first produced track on all streaming platforms before 2023! #wearecrossfader)
Thank's for the motivation and show us your experience, I'm networking to get muy first gigs #wearecrossfader
Great video! Thanks! Working to be more proficient on new independent deck, and gear up. #wearecrossfader
Working on DJing my first party for friends by Dec '22 #wearecrossfader
My goal from now to the 12 months is becoming a bigger Dj with more charge from having more professional Dj gears ♥️🙏🏻♥️
Really good video good content and lots of information respect to the crossfader team
Nice one, Jason!
Lovely stuff 💯
Currently working to secure gigs in a new venue that opened in my city recently, so this is my goal for the next 6 months. If I were to dream big, I would like secure a residency there within the next 12 months.
My 2 goals for the next 12 months:
-I want to establish myself as a regular in the local club scene, at least 1 opening slot per month through this fall/winter/spring.
-I want to bag multiple festival slots next summer.
#wearecrossfader
good goals
I am from Myanmar and I just subscribed to DJ 400 Course from Crossfader. I will try my best to play my 1st show in November 2022. #wearecrossfader
✅✅✅✅
Great Video! My goal for the upcoming year is to improve and build my social media and getting deeper into the Club Scene #wearecrossfader
I'm working on getting my first GIG in the next 12 months. This video helps a lot thank you #wearecrossfader
My main DJ goal for the next year is to continue building confidence and play my very first gig 🔥 #wearecrossfader
Croosfader always helping me with some tips. My next goal is to play next summer and I am improving my skills to do so. #wearecrossfader
Biggups biggups crossfader!! I plan to get a good at this local bar, expand my horizons and learn how to play other tunes other than DnB, and maybe take a few lessons online. Maybe build a brand! I love love love this shit!! The boom and the bap!! Stayup#wearecrossfader
