I work in multiple genres which includes Pop, Electronic Dance Music and Distorted Guitar Based music. In defence of Distorted Guitar Based music singers and they inability to sing. The rasp, distortion and aggression are actual techniques. I am no Death Metal Fan but the harsh and otherworldly Death Metal vocals have professional teachers. A death metal singer I know moves between clean and beautiful tones to harsh death metal at will. It's not my thing but it takes skill. Each to their own.

A DAW is just a tool. Hammers didn’t ruin carpentry. It makes it possible for more people to access music recording, composition, and production.
Unskilled people swinging hammers is dangerous but hacks aren’t blocking the skilled from making good music.
You get the quality of music you pay for. You get the quality you demand.

I can see the articles point on this but there are more benefits with the use of DAWs. I personally feel like the arguments being made towards DAWs in this article should be specifically directed towards record labels. DAWs/ digital tech has made it easier to get to desired Sonics and make work flow easier. Sure it’s more accessible these days, but it’s not the primary reason why the industry has become more accepting to lesser quality according to the articles theory and message.

a lot of great artists use DAW’S or VRS’S. for recording their work.

When I hear these people bash DAWs all I hear is “we can’t gate keep and curate what we think you should listen anymore”. This guy also need to realize we are not in the 1950s anymore where the mic guitar amps and cabs were the PA system at the time.
I remember sharing a recording once with a guy I used to work with. He actually recorded in “real” studios. He could not believe the sound I was getting in a home studio. I had amp modelers are a self built PC 😂.
If The Smashing pumpkins were hitting the scene today no one would care no matter how hard labels would force them down our throats.

Agree 💯. A while back I listened to my old CD collection....and there was a lot of very mediocre music from the 80s and 90s...and a lot of it sounded worse than an average digital recording these days....
The issue isn't ProTools, the issue is the fact that the music file is separate from the payment method.
Crypto technology can solve this easily.

Naw man crypto is not the solution with the current situation. You have to convert it to fiat, and that takes 30% off the top. And then you still have to do income taxes, which is another 10-whatever percent, then whatever sales tax. Crypto has capital gains on top of everything else.

@@ghost-user559 crypto tokens in of themselves are capable of both containing the music playback file and the record of transaction, meaning you could distribute songs on a blockchain and the artist keeps at least 90% of the token value and the rest is network fees.
But you are right, when people want to cash out their crypto that's when all the problems start.

Technology makes it easier to create but you can't polish a turd, there's a lot of music thats so terrible it should of never been recorded in the first place. I think you mentioned around 17 min mark there's a difference between creating music and actually being in the music business.

Corgan sound like another over the hill rock artist saying stupid things just to get attention now they are over the hill.
Pro Tools is the first DAW and it is still the most basic of all the DAW. Pro Tools requires more skills than other DAWS and it is used a lot because it just sounds better. If Corgan is going to whine he should at least do a little research and get things right. Corgan is whining about producers they are the ones making the decisions on using pitch correction, time correction, and other tools and effects.

I understand where the homie from Smashing Pumpkins is coming from because there's a lot of people in this industry that shouldn't even be and it has bought the value of music down...
