A club member has a 7 coach version. It looks fantastic on a big layout like the clubs. I was tempted. However I want the new Hornby HST in East Midlands livery plus 8 coaches and possibly the even more expensive Trans Pennine train coming out.
Hi Jen, You have seen the light! This is a great model. Why don’t you add 1 or 2 of the coach packs? I would add I have installed the West Hill Wagon Works magnetic couplings as this makes coupling & decoupling a lot easier.
Great review of perfect model of almost perfect train. It’s even nicer with the black cab surround. Fingers crossed Hornby will make a function only HM7000 decor for it
Hornby are offering the additional coach packs for £76 in their Bargain Outlet section. Also I understand Hornby have now release the two special Humbrol Tartan Check paints for anyone wanting to custom paint their 1st & 2nd class seats. R.1D10T :)
Got my set today - perfect service from TMC! Thanks for the video. Think I got the last one before they sold out. Fast delivery and great packaging. Just looking at decoders now
Thank you so much Jenny! I love your channel and appreciate you letting us know where to find the real bargains! I ordered the 7 car version from TMC for £100 less than the competition. Many thanks Jenny! :-)
I don't know if this is any use to you but I also bought one of these APT, a friend of mine mentioned TMC were selling them. I found when fitting the function decoders into the two driver units that between the seating and the PCB below there is loads of room. Unfortunately it means dismantling the unit and the PCB at the bottom. This allows you to thread the wires and header through. The thing that hits you as I was doing it, with a bit of forward thinking by Hornby it could have been so easy. Just cut a slot in the side of the plastic that holds the PCB. Good review, thanks.
It might be the interior colours of the carriages being reflected, but I don't like the difference in colour temperature of the lighting between first and second class...
Always had a fascination with the APT as a child of the 1970s. Now I just need to build a layout to put it on so it does not have to live in its box when it arrives.
I just took advantage of people buying the New Hornby APT in the sale by buying a Old Hornby APT from Hattons unbowed but in very good condition for £117 Inc postage. 😊
I would like one of these sets, it's a good price. I must say that I don't like the plastic pantograph, and needing 3 decoders. And the very tight fit for the decoder(s) in the driving cars also puts me off somewhat.
Hi Jenny, With thanks to your video. I think I am going to get one to try. I will use the Digitrax decoders as the N scale 8 pin board decoders should fit into the cab car units. Here is a like from me and I have subbed. All the best Peter.
@@JenniferEKirk thanks for the reply. I'm a beginner with DCC so good advice and good part of the review showing how to actually fit the decorders. Keep up the good work.
The interior light leds look a completely different colour between the front/back cars, and the inner cars ? Is this a trick of the camera Jenny, or are they really noticeable different colour temperatures ??
I got a 5 car set of the 2015 issue of the London Underground S-stock set with lights and sound or £582, inc P&P. The price of the 2022 issue with no lights is £595 + £5 p&p. So I am bound to say the price you paid for your APT isn't too bad by comparison! If you are tempted to order an S-stock train with moquette seating, there is a scenario you could invent based on Amersham where S-stock trains and Network Rail Trains can arrive at the same platform. As far as I know this is the only place in the universe where this happens. If you needed treatment for your OCD (Obsessive Collector's Diesease) you used to be able to get a train to Hellingly Hospital, but that went with the Beeching Axe, so you'll have to travel to the Restaurant at the End of the Universe instead. Thanks for uploading.
good review👍, for me personally even at 300 quid+ decoders is way above what i would consider paying for it, at the 470 odd price i would commit myself to a asylum, in my humble opinion i would pay no more than £180 for it, thankyou for the review as its constantly being promoted on faceache by tmc,
Put it this way, it's not that cheap, did you know that a lot of products you buy are actually subject to a fun trick where they sell you one thing for a loss and make the balance plus profit on the rest, play stations and nespresso machines are good examples the machines and consoles sell at a loss, the games and coffee pods make the balance and profit. We really need a big youtuber to make a video for modellers explaining all these pricing tricks that make things seem skew wiff with our hobby. Obviously there's no secondary market as such like that in models, unless we talk train sets *maybe* but even that is a bit debatable as to how much it really works as with this hobby, thus we pay up the full production costs plus profit needs on each product plus retailer markup which has also gone up as a portion of the price. This naturally has to be set to suit the smallest retailer with the highest needs, but it results in big retailers with economies of scale being able to then discount a lot of it as their profit per unit sold needs to be less hence the bargain offerings at larger retailers. But if the manufacturer direct sells at the lowest price they could that would do over that smallest retailer which well, we wouldn't like much. It's a messy and very misrepresented topic
At RRP, thats almost $1000 NZ dollars, you'd have to have rocks in your head to pay that, for plastic pantographs, crappy interior, rubbish paint work and finishing. I don't how you give this the score you did.
lets call it 300 quid.not what i'd call a bargain.yes it's great if you've got 300 pound to spend.personally i think this hobby is getting out of order with the never ending price increases. many people just don't have the money these days.the hobbyist is been priced out.

No HST Jenny, that cant be right. It is iconic.😁
Yes you have to have a HST set. even a full 7 + 2 car set on my round and round 8x4ft tail chaser layout is great fun!

Thanks Jenny, bought one....hope to see it running on the Monday Club
Might have to pick one of these up from TMC, been holding off getting one simply because the RRP is far too expensive for what it is at the moment.

I can remember the real ones sitting in sidings outside Glasgow Central rotting away.
All that this needs now is some tartan paint for the seats.
It might be the interior colours of the carriages being reflected, but I don't like the difference in colour temperature of the lighting between first and second class...
I remember the Rail Riders!

Great model that APT-P very happy with mine, what Function Number was the cab light Jenny.😁
I've still got my original apt from the 1980s .I think original colours look a lot better
Great model got one myself 😊
The 370 APT is one of the best looking trains ever!! How much?!!

Additional coaches for 50 quid at kernow jenny😉
Wonderful train
I preferred the APT-E to APT 370
Great review. If I'm not bothered about the lights will it work with just the one decorder?
@@chrisseed4643 yes. It would just not have working lights.

Jenny,do you think can you get an HM7000 decoder with sound and a power bank in this?? Thanks.
Probably but only if she took the entire thing apart and rebuilt it with the chip somewhere deep inside it?
A bit stingy with the marks Jenny! Fabulous train pack!!!!
Jenny, I am now £299 deeper into debt and it’s all your fault. I hope you feel suitably guilty.

You don't mention the tilt mechanism
Makes you wonder how much it actually cost to produce in the first place or at this price are they losing money?

Don't think £299.95 is a bargain it's a bit dear what's it made of gold
You can pay that for a two car DMU from Bachmann. A single locomotive costs this much...
