Hello Rob, I am nella jameston 265 an the boat cover winner. You have gotten a hold of me once before about maybe a winner and now it's a score, Thanks.
Rob, try wet Sanding the clear coat 1000 to 2000 grit. The overheating issue with the 150 mercury could be firing 2 times on one cylinder. There are videos on how to detect it. You have to get a degree wheel and make a pointer. Find TDC ON ALL CYLINDER for each firing point. Rock it back and forth for that cylinder and check to make sure none of the rest are firing at the same time. Heck, if I didn't live in Florida, I would come help you. Keep the good video's come.
I like the marine. Mainly because i like rebuilding these older hot rod boats. We run a shallow river here so im trying to get some of the older BB jets. Mostly just aluminum flat bottom w/ outboard jets some are pretty but they just dont have the classiness of these older ones. Getting ready to get a 19ft 1973 Sidewinder 455/Berkeley w/ Place Diverter. Definitely needs attention but the rebuilt olds only has 6 hours on it. Looking forward to this project and hopefully a few more i can restore and find a home for along the way.
I really like the content in both channels but I’m partial to the boats. A comment on the Avenger. The engine doesn’t overheat at low speed but overheats at higher rpm. You have updated just about everything to keep it cool. I’m wondering about the head gasket. Could it possibly be installed upside down/backwards which could be covering some cooling ports causing it to over head at high rpm.
I watched small town bassin he had an overheating issue with mercury his was a double fire issue on one of the cylinders. That was his problem, but his motor was modded
I would think everything on one channel. If you had a million people . But I don’t know how that stuff works. I just know I watch all your videos. Good luck buddy
yeah, idk either. I thought a lot about the split but if anything it's just slowed down growth of both. That said I've been busy lately so fewer videos than normal.
The SU's are pretty straight forward. I have a '72 MGB-GT that has its original twin SU's on it. I don't know which SU's the Jag uses, it looks like HIS4 or HIS6's with the separate float bowl on the side. You just need to check the throttle shaft bushings for wear. If they are worn you have to ream the new ones out after installation, which requires the special reamer that you won't have. Reach out to a local Jag or British car club (there is a strong British Car world in Illinois and Wisconsin) and I would bet they have one you can use.
I'm just not sure how much wear is acceptable. They have a tiny amount of play, but barely any. I'm not sure what is ok and what isn't. The kits came with teflon bushings you can install without drilling.
I'll be curious to see how the hyroplane goes. That was a screamin' good deal for that engine, as those KG-7's are some of the most sought after smaller old Mercury motors. I have two Super Hurricanes sitting on the wall in similar condition, although not currently running, and I think I paid around $200 or $300 for both of them here. Didn't even have a use for them :)
Yeah, pretty geeked about it! Sucks I have to tear it apart to get that advance lever out of it, kind of feel bad about it, but it's not like it's mint. I might sell the lower half and just keep a spare powerhead in general.
Re doing that jack place is going to be way cheaper than a new one. Setting back is just spacers and bolts. Too bad Mercury stopped making the Para Lift. Had one on my 20 Avenger with the 225 right at it's weight limit. 12" setback and 10" travel. Can't find them anywhere now. If you break down the jack can you polish it maybe? Just thinking aesthetics because that SST is a real fine looking bird. Clearcoat issue aside.
I found a manual jackplate with 12" setback for cheap, so I think I'm doing that and selling this hydraulic one for parts. Maybe, it's anodized aluminum. I don't think it'll come back without a lot of effort.
@@ADDvanced That sounds like a sound decision. Safe way to go too. Surface driving is real sketchy without hydraulic steering. Jacking my Avenger with dual cable I could barely keep the wheel from hooking right. Crazy torque.
What about the URS6 Avant?!?! Sickest car you own hands down. Itll be cool to see the Honda get built, did you try any of my suggestions to fix the gelcoat on the last SST video? Obviously I'm not there in person looking at it so if I can help I will bro. Dig the boats, and the cars. I'm down to see a top speed run in the Avenger. Sick idea!
Oh yeah, forgot about that one. Haven't driven it in 2 years! I need finish this stupid backAstro trailer to free up a garage space. Long term goal with that car is to get it out to Colorado and leave it there, in a garage. It is the ultimate high altitude ski trip vehicle!
Don’t put the carbs back on until you match all the pistons between the three. (Drop them dry in their “cylinders”, wet sand each until they all drop at the same rate.
S.U. stands for Strombergh Union. ...it was a freaking sausage company. Look it up. Have fun syncing them, I've replaced mine with a single bigger Weber.. you're a boat mechanic scientist so you got this... your projects are awesome. I suggest getting rid of all of them and buying one sweet ass yacht...
I enjoy the two site format. But Rob - you have sooo much going on. Perhaps you start and finish one boat and one car at a time. Give yourself more time to enjoy life with Sarah!
(Watched the video until the end after I clicked on it a second time scrolling through stuff on TV this time, and got to the section about both channels). Some of my thoughts and rants :) Personally, I originally wondered if splitting the channels into two was a good idea, back when you did it. My reasoning - I figured that RUclips also wants to see channels that put out content frequently (the more, the better) so splitting the content into two robs that from both. So that basically, you're posting less on your main channel and then also trying to grow a channel from scratch with your other content. From what I've seen, it looks like ADDVanced Garage is taking a bit to take off and the subscribers didn't carry over a whole lot. Has the growth of one or both of them been slower than you expected I'm assuming? As smart as RUclips apparently is, it's also dumb - similar to my channel name, I run into the same thing searching for yours when I want to watch your videos. Whenever I type it 'ADDVanced', it shows nothing at first, because RUclips autocorrects what I typed. At what point in popularity will the algorithm understand and just automatically point people to 'ADDVanced' and not autocorrect it to 'Advanced'...... I'm in a similar predicament - I've had friends and family suggest I need to do 'just boat stuff', or 'just motorcycle stuff' and make seperate channels for each.....but I work on all of it, all the time. And as challenging as it is to consistently put content out, I'd end up having four channels with videos posted every two months. I'd have more success if I could just stay on one project I think (also suggested to me) instead of skipping around and coming back a month later, and am trying to get to that point (less stuff in the garage, less going on at one time, more focus on one thing). I'm also not sure which is more important on here either - should the focus be more on 'quality' and having that perfect video, or should it be on 'quanity' and putting one or more out every week, regardless of how satisfied you are with the end result? Obviously, these thoughts and 'advice' above are coming from an unmontized channel of two adolecent acting adults as well, so probably not worth much 😂 -Brock
The algorithm is crazy! Things can go ape shit crazy like a steam roller hood, then suddenly everything can come to a screeching as if running into a brick wall. Definitely no fun especially if life is full of variety and our subs just seem to only care about boats. I just don’t understand! 1. My car racing stuff gets no love. 2. Only some boat stuff gets love but very disproportionately. I’ve got a couple of gem vids that have hardly seen the light of day. But a diff vid that was in a similar situation posted over a year ago exploded from a measly 500 view to over 60,000 in a month suddenly. Then just as suddenly stopped. 🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️ “Algorithm!!! When I get ahold of you, I oughta…!!!”
Yeah, I don't get it. Boat stuff is great, but I like cars and sleds and building things I haven't tried before. But if I post that stuff to this channel, it sort of tanks the channel. Hence why I split it up. I'm still not sure it was the right move.
I'm not sure it's working for me either. Idfk. I just don't know how to post on a variety of subjects when majority of subs only care about boats; posting non-boat stuff tanks the momentum.

Super easy to do. Any mark on the flywheel with a timing light. Look for a double image.
@@pgnandt Wow okay that is super easy! I'll give it a shot!
@@ADDvanced Not to be capt. obvious but check each plug wire, look for a ghost with the engine revved up.
I tune in for boat content & the lovely Miss Sarah.

Good video! The Ecotric bikes are sweet.
Having fun with mine! Love it!

In process!
Great video my man 🤩 Greetings from Norway 🇳🇴

I have one of those manual jack plates.
Less talk, more Sara
I love watching all your content here in Australia!!!
I do up ski boats and cars so what you do definitely interests me
Crickey! Thanks mate!
Another Aussie here as well . Good stuff Steve.
Get yourself a classic Bronco! I have an 86. Takes everything i can throw at it!
Those have all turned to dust here, with salt and everything.

I haven’t had mine on the water yet 🤦🏻♂️ Get the avenger redone. Don’t rush it bro 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤙🏻
Buy a fixed setback and bolt a manual jackplate to it. Once you get the right height figured out you won't need to raise and lower it.
But a powered lift lets you go from race configuration to just cruise configuration.
Agree, I think this is my plan as of this moment.
Mine too still
I want to see what’s wrong with the overheating of the merc outboard

Same! Boats are the best ! Stoked to go out west this winter, can't wait! Need to get a mountain phazer out there at some point.

"boat mechanic scientist" I want that on a business card :D
So the Insight is gone?

Squirrel
Instead of the jackplate build a pod for it. Cost way less than a thousand. Cheers.
