"Chase me" was their debut, released on January 13th (a Friday), 2017. It must have been nerve-wrecking for the members, re-debuting with a genre that is not popular in Korea after Minx failed. (5 of them were Minx before.) But they already doubled their sales with this. And they stuck with the Rock/Metal vibe until today, now selling 50 times the albums than Minx did. This is the start of the Nightmare arc, which spans 6 MVs and 1 Japanese release. They are Nightmares here, and the Nightmare hunter is trying to dispel them - how that turns out is shown in the next one, Good Night. Their dance costume here is like a shortened Yukata, except wrapped right over left, something that's usually only done for the deceased. Fits well into the horror concept! Remember the ending here for when you react to Good Night!
The reason why Dreamcatcher Nightmare series is more J-Rock vibe is because the CEO of the company used to be a promotor for the popular Japanese Rock Band "X-Japan". And he got some connection which helps him when he Re-Debut the members as Dreamcatcher. Previously in 2014, 5 members of them already debut as cutey bubblegum pop girlband "MINX". However since the popularity is not successful enough, they change the concept, add 2more members & re-debut them as DREAMCATCHER with Rock-Metal-Horror concept
@DashyAndDadReacts you're welcome. I believe you 2 will feel more metal on their next song "good night" which i also already put the notification for the reaction from your chanell 😁👍
“How close is Korean to Japanese, is it in the same ballpark?” How big is your ballpark? ⚽️ They’re pretty different. The linguistic skills of Korean idols (often signing, rapping, & doing fan/press events in Japanese and/or English, in addition to Korean - which isn’t always an idol’s mother tongue) is really staggeringly impressive. Korean and Japanese looks are different too. Speaking as an American of European ancestry, it does take repeat exposure for westerners to get a good feel for Korean looks vs Japanese looks, but just keep watching more mvs and other content! Korea is sandwiched between two much larger neighbors China & Japan, and there’s been a lot of cultural exchange, as well as a fierce struggle to maintain their independence and uniqueness. It’s a little less flight time and distance between Seoul & Japan than it is between London & Rome, and, broadly speaking, Italians are pretty different from the British. Imperial Japan occupied Korea for about 40 years until the end of WWII, so as you can imagine their relationship is Complicated, and calling them “the same” just because they’re in the same global neighborhood is precarious. The Britons and Anglo-Saxons probably had some strong opinions of the Romans just a couple generations after they left too. I’ve enjoyed your enjoying of Dreamcatcher, keep it up! Broadening your cultural horizons, Korean for cute/kawaii is kwee-ope-da (귀엽다), beautiful is ah-room-dap-da, and voice is moak-so-ree.🫰 I searched your videos and didn’t see any Rolling Quartz reactions, which surprised me. I would think they’d be just your cup of tea. 🎸
Fly High (The girls get cursed into Nightmares by the Spider Queen due to Yoohyeon's actions) Chase Me (The girls mess with the Nightmare Hunter) Good Night (The Nightmare Hunter captures half of the girls, but the girls ultimately escape with the Nightmare book that caught them, but lose it after escaping the Hunter.) You and I (Yoohyeon's sins catch up with her and her soul is stolen by the Spider Queen, causing Jiu guilt.) 5. What (Jiu finds the Nightmare Book dropped by Yoohyeon in modern times, transforming the girls into Modern Nightmares. At the end, Yoohyeon makes her presence known which leads us into...) 6. Piri (Within the alternate dimension the Spider Queen cursed Yoohyeon in, she finds a Piri, which she uses to direct Jiu in What to use the book. The entire group goes into the alternate dimension and confront their fears. Jiu finds Yoohyeon, the girls reunite, but they are all trapped in the alternate dimension.) 7. Breaking Out (An alternate telling of Piri's story. The difference this time is the Red String of Fate binding the girls together and helping them find each other and ultimately break out of the Nightmare.)
If you want to see them lean a lot more into metal you should check out their Japanese releases. Rock and metal weren't very popular in South Korea when they debuted so they had to keep it just a little toned down if they wanted to survive. It's still not super popular but it is breaking into mainstream again. A couple recommendations for their Japanese tracks... Endless Night Breaking Out
Thanks for checking out more Dreamcatcher! The Nightmare series is great
It's so good! Can’t wait for more Thankies! Happy new year 🥳 💙
