      Have to agree, it only becomes tedious to me if there are a lot of obstacles, that kind of breaks up the peacefulness. I used to have two acres of flat open ground with zero obstacles and I loved mowing it, trying different patterns, etc.

    From Ontario Canada. 2nd week with the 100 belt slips.. Poly cart hubby had to jimmy rig cause the spring wouldn't stay in place . Called the main number to register it and complain. Apparently others who bought at Home Depot same problem with the belts.. Thank goodness we can deliver the tractor ourselves to our local dealer cause that isn't covered by warranty.

My brother bought the 20 thousand dollar one with the all the bells and whistle attachments. I also make sure I rest it often so it doesn't over heat. Pretty much baby it . Hope it lasts. • @craigweida801

    Most 100 series mower decks have belt slipping problems. The small 90º tab that holds the end of the cable housing on the deck itself needs the holes elongated a little. This will allow the tab to be slightly adjusted . (Towards the outside of deck) It's a very fine line between engagement of the deck and being too loose. 1/8" + - will work in most cases.

    • @prairiestatetractor
      @prairiestatetractor  6 лет назад

      I'm not aware of a kit per se, but to replace the Easy Change receptacle with a traditional oil filter system you would need to order the following parts: AM131611 (1) Drain Pipe Assembly
      , MIU13767 (1) Threaded Nipple, and AM125424 (1) Oil Filter. hollandandsons.dealercustomerportal.com/Customers/Order-Parts

      @RedneckJimAdventures 6 лет назад +4

      They're just standard Briggs motors that have been made over and over again. Look at the serial number and go to parts tree. Find the motor and buy whatever parts have been taken off to put that oil change piece of shit on it. Then take their shit off and put Briggs back on. If that's too much work I suggest you buy another brand there really isn't any difference between brands. Same motors, same trans.

      John Deere is apparently following studies that show oil itself doesn't break down (synthetic, at least; I don't know about dino-oil) over use. One such study by a major auto manufacturer (Ford, I think) supposedly has one of their trucks on the road with over 500k on a single batch of oil. The oil is periodically drained, filtered, and returned to the engine.
      I'm as skeptical as you are, as this goes against everything I've ever been taught. For us, JD offers a conversion kit to allow us to do a "normal" oil and filter change. I might look into that one day. I only got my machine a few days ago.

      The "Filter" is filled with oil, so when you remove the old one approx 1/3 of the engine oil is removed and the new filter comes pre filled. The reason they did this was pretty simple. The found out that the vast majority of consumers never changed the oil because it was too messy and time consuming, therefore it never happened. This method, even though it isn't as good as a full oil change is much better than nothing. It is only on the low end tractors anyway.

    Don't buy this John Deere x147r Ride on mower. Unless you want to mow a level short lawn that doesn't get too long. Maybe a bowling green would be suitable.
    The grass shute constantly clogs up if you mow heavy green grass so you have put your arm in and pull it all out.
    You have no warning when it clogs and jams the blades while the motor keeps spinning the deck belt resulting in black smoke coming out that lets you know there's serious problem.
    If you're lucky the belt will jump off the pulleys.
    Putting the catcher back on is a frustrating procedure the makes you think it from a different model. The lock catch on the catcher releases very often dropping grass out the back. The whole catcher set up is flimsy and cheap. Not too mention frustrating.
    Not good around trees as the catcher handle sticks up way too high and hooks onto branches.
    1 hr of use after buying this brand new mower it developed an unnerving clunking sound in the deck.
    I've always owned John Deere and have been a happy customer,but this model is poorly engineered and designed.

    Its a nice tractor, but one big problem. You only offer Briggs and Stratton engines. Why not offer a Kawasaki or Kohler on the top several trims? And the easy change is total BS. That engine wont make it 5 years. "Extended life package" is a big marketing scam. I have worked on ones with and without the so called "package", and they are the exact same.

    Anything new on the 300 series?

    • @prairiestatetractor

      Hi Pete, the only change I know of is the initial 8-hour break-in engine oil and filter change requirement has been eliminated. Otherwise the 2018 X300 Series is the same as 2017.

    The Deere approved oil filter conversion kit is only $25.00 and comes with the filter and two quarts of oil. Eliminates the overly expensive easy change system. I can see where easy change would appeal to some suburbanites who don't like to get their hands dirty, but the system only replaces a portion of the oil making the price totally not worth it IMHO.

    I had conversation with our local John Deere dealer. Asking her couple questions after we got it. She said the tractor will not last long. I said what a thing to say when you put your name behind it. I am told it is just a knock off to their name. I would not take it to a John Deere Dealer anyway for repair . Have somewhere else I will take it. It better last some years. We take care of it and why wouldn't the engine last. I have a few hours of cutting but stop every 20-30 min to let it cool down and cut when it's dry grass. Do weekly checks and clean it

      Summer Time is it important to let it cool down. We mow about 2.5 hours sometimes. Now having issues with oil all over engine.

      @@brittanyd3527 We had that problem, started smoking bad. I thought I was putting to much oil and it was leaking. Luckily it was under warranty and got that covered. They said it was a manufacturers fault. Glad it wasn't mine. Hopefully no problems this summer 2019. No more warranty.

    Low end JUNK. Look at all the ads on Craigslist for 1 or 2 year old Deere mowers with bad engines or bad transmissions. I have a 25 year old LX178 I wouldn't trade even up for a new 100 series. How can Deere market this crap?
