Great tutorial! I was very inspired by watching Matt McGuire's videos. And you explain it very well
"I am not qualified to teach anybody anything, but here we go." Hahahaaaaaaaaaaa, but you are. Dude, you are too funny and cool, and the video is really helpful and good, thanks.
I can't wait to learn this! I learned the heel-toe method and now I'm a god at bass drum single foot and double foot speed!
Okay maybe I'm not qualified to say but, I'd say you're totally qualified to teach this technique! I came here just to check i was t messing it up and your explanation is so clear. Thanks bud!
I had a feeling right from the instance i saw your video thumbnail that this would be a really great lesson and damn i was right. You did such a wonderful job explaining the technique and i got everything i needed from this lesson without having to search for any other video ever. Props to you man thanks so much!
This was amazing bro! You don't have to have a certificate to be fabulous at teaching something that's what youtube is for! And with the help of your video I'll become fabulous at this technique with practice! Also what kind of stick are you using? Please keep making vids, you have a great vibe! Again thanks for the vid
Actually that’s a good way of doing it, Easy with out the drumstick, Thx
This was the most helpful video on the push pull I've found or at least the easiest to understand cheers
the tip at 5:50 is very important i think, cause especially with your weak hand its increadibly hard to get in this control in higher speed.
Well explained.
Haha thanks a lot for this video! I've been wanting to learn this technique because of Matt McGuire ever since I watched my first video from him a year ago, this is just what I've been looking for!
Great job 👏🏻 this video is very helpful.
Thanks dude, really helpful. i was like checking out tuts after matt's video and now you came, thanks again :)
Lol watching Matt McGuire's Lane Boy cover is what brought me here because he does the hi hat part with one hand
Cool
Nice explanation. It Really help. Keep it up
Woah the audio quality got me scared as if someone was near me. Damn such studio quality.
great video man thanks!
Not even 20 seconds in but i just had to subscribe
useful tutorial. subbed
IT WORKED
Very nice job man, nice and clear. The ways I do triples with the push pull is I add one free bounce between the push and the pull. I don't think you should ever do push-pull-push and end on the push. You do push-bounce-pull, and for the quadriples you do push-bounce-bounce-pull. Also trying to accent the pulls worked for me with the 3s and 4s :)
Great lesson. New subscriber.
Hey Tristan, nice vid thank you for sharing your tips, can you please tell us approximately the working time it took you for instance first to get the whole motion settled down at a slow tempo, then to make it feel totally effortless and natural as you mention it, and then to speed it up ?
No lazy intentions, just to know how I should integrate it to my current routine !
Thanks for your help
I have a problem with my left hand.......it doesn't work proprely....will you give me some tips for my lefr hand please
Dear Tristan, is your point finger always on the drum stick ? I meant the pad of the point finger also controls the bounce along with the rest or you just leave it hanging pointing downwards? Thanks man....
so the fist stroke your pushing it down with your whole wrist correct? and then the upstroke is just letting the stick slide back up?
Thanks man!! I really appreciate the way you simplified it. Now I just have to practice and look a bit weird, lol... Thanks for sharing this video.
I learned it from matt too lol
good
When I do this, my writs always makes these loud cracking noises... Like someone cracking their knuckles. Is this normal when you start doing it?
Is the push and pull technique and the moeller technique the same technique?
Tristan Maloney thank you very much for your response, I can't seem to get the hang of the moeller technique, since my fulcrum in my rite hand has always been between my thumb and index finger, it seems the moeller technique is the thumb and middle finger and therefore I lose control when I try that, but I will work on this push and pull technique I know playing and practicing anything and everything is the main way to develop anything lol , thank you for your knowledge
How did I know he was gonna mention matt😂
Idk why but i cant get my stick to go up am i not hitting hard enough or is it natural that my stick wont go up?
If it helps I had to move my hand a little up the stick for this to work properly :)
Thank you so much for the help i will keep practicing
Hey - to get it to come up: as a proof, if you hold the stick horizontally to get ready for the first push off the head, really if you hold it with a light enough grip w/ just your pointer finger & htumb you shouldn't need to hit anything for the stick to come to its upward position with you 'pushing' down, just use a larger exagerrated stroke with your arm instead of your wrist to test it. You can tweak how precise/light the pivot your knuckles give, but if it's too tense the stick's rotation will slow down and halt undesirably, like bad skateboard bearings. Hold the stick in front of you as I just described, and lower your arm. The stick should come up vertically (might have to move your arm 6+ inches), or fly backwards and fall out of your hand :D I wanna say if that happens you're on the right track. Learn to stop it in a proper upright position for the pull. then.. you can do this on a smaller scale with your wrist, and combine that with it bouncing off of the surface. Then pull back up and repeat.
same problem here, I can play singles at 200bpm with one hand but I fail to get the stick jump back as shown in the video :/
I'm not sure what's wrong on my end, but no matter how lightly I hold the sticks I can't get it to bounce back as high as that. I've had the same fulcrum for years too. I don't feel like I'm doing the wrist drop incorrectly, I don't know. Just that bounce back will not cooperate.
try throwing the stick harder, or your probably gripping wrong. if not that than you didnt properly learn rebound
odd question, but do thicker sticks help with this. A friend told me using thinner sticks helps. I usually use 7A's but im not sure.
Tristan Maloney thanks, I was told that the ticker the stick the easer it is because the weight will help it bounce back. I'm not sure so I think I'll go and try and find some really thick sticks and then some 5a's and see the diffenc
Get marching sticks man, practice always with them on your pad, and then play with your regular sticks on your drums (you can play with the marching sticks also, that would help as well) , fat sticks help you a lot with your grip, and with your speed when you grave thinner sticks, your hands will fly after enough practicing.
Have You watched Ramon Montagner Push & Pull Technique. ?? Mind Blowing - -Check it out !!
Hey btw did anyone ever tell you that you look like Chris Pratt like dude the resemblance
not suppose to let go of the stick from what I've seen
"Or, you know, whatever..."
