You can return the book with the glittered and nail polished edges. Thrift Books will replace it. I have had no trouble with their customer service people. You have to contact them online first and then they will get back to you. Good Luck. Sorry about your bad day (s).

Ah, Puff the Magic Dragon was part of my childhood, but more in song than book form. "Dragons live forever, not so little boys" was diabolical. Who writes a children's song telling kids they're going to die? Playful dragons are cool. Memento Mori! LOL.
^^^I agree. When I got a little older, I always associated the song with puffing marijuana and/or chasing the dragon. Like H.R. Pufnstuf. Good grief. Crazy times, man. But I digress. I found Emma from Carolyn Marie and I'm so glad I did. Emma's Canadian accent reminds me of my childhood in Minnesota.

The tv show of his dark materials is sooo amazing. Great acting and the animal companions are done really well. Really great show and got me so hooked to read the books.
As long as the lemon trees grow... definitely read it❤.It's set during the Syrian Revolution where our protagonist is 18 year old pharmacy student turned seasonal surgeon (due to the lack of doctors) and we basically get to see the harsh realities of war through the eyes of the civilians she treat. It also follows the themes of love, friendship, loss and the fear generated from it (I'm looking at you, Khawf) ...I believe everyone should read this book❤❤❤

Deckled edges are elite 👌🏻 I will go out of my way to get editions with deckled edges. I love the feel of them. I love that most of the paperbacks are floppy. I love that they feel “softer” than other books. Just 10/10 books all around.

They turned His dark materials into a three season tv show and I loved it! I would say it was pretty accurate and the actors did a great job, I recommend! ❤
Yes, it is sad that there is no more representation of migraine. As someone who suffers from chronic migraine, I am constantly looking for representation of migraine in literature, movies, art to see how others live with migraine and to find some meaning in so much pain. I have read Seven Days in June, but the first book I read that represents migraine was When Nietzsche Wept by Irvin D. Yalom and that book is amazing. Hope you get well soon Emma 🍀
About that sweet smell from old books, recently I read that this kind of smell (something like vanilla) is due to paper decomposition (celullose and chemicals on it). Sometimes it could be sweet, sometimes it could be fruity. Hope it helps. 😊

Omg thank you for mentioning how underrepresented chronic migraine rep is in books!! I suffer from chronic migraines and I read a song of wraiths and ruin when it came out and it was so nice to see my pain acknowledged. It really isn’t talked about in books like you said (I’ve read nearly 500 books and could probably count on one hand how many that have touched on it and not even use all the fingers)
damn you unlocked a core childhood memory of being obsessed with the golden compass movie! i didn't know it was based on a book, i just found it randomly on tv once and processed to be obsessed over it for a few months, only to then completely forget about it until now

Actually, migraines are mentioned in Philip Pullman's "Book of Dust", a prequel for Lyra's story! As far as I remember, one of the main characters, a young boy, experiences them. He gets a vision of "auras" which he calls "auroras" due to misspelling - and they help him and guide him throughout his adventures.
Oh, and you showed a collection of Pullman's books later in the video! What a nice coincidence 😅

Hi Emma, I've read The Discomfort of Evening this year and it was so good! It's really sad and I think shows childhood trauma in a very poetic and disturbing way. But I loved it! 😅
I'm very excited to see what you will think of "The Discomfort of Evening". The author, who goes by the name Lucas Rijneveld now, is actually originally from the town I am from in The Netherlands. He used to hang out with my older cousin when they were kids/teens, so it's so cool (and also a bit strange) to see his international success nowadays! As to pronouncing his last name, I think it would work the best to use the English "ai" sound for "ij". It's still somewhat different but comes the closest to what it's supposed to sound like in Dutch :).
Omg when the architecture book quoted Han Byung-chul I gasped - I just read his work “non-things” this month, it was so so mind-blowingly eye-opening. It’s a philosophical yet practical essay on why the era of smart phones has made us lonely. I think you would really like it ❤
The cover of the Bionicle book broke open a whole set of memories I forgot were in my brain. I absolutely played with that red Bionicle while my sister battled me with the green Bionicle for hours and hours and hours. We had a whole army of them. Thank you for that 😂 truly hope the book is a masterpiece.
Probably the fastest I have ever commented on one of your videos, but I almost started crying just at the words “puff the magic dragon”. My dad used to sing that song to me when I was little and I’m literally fighting tears right now thinking about it and its last few stanzas/lines. Summer colds are miserable! Feel better! I really enjoyed your book haul and your reactions 😄. There are some beautiful ones in the haul. I truly love Puff the Magic Dragon. When I was a child I had the record. Yes - I'm that old 🤭. I really like deckle edges that are done well - though perhaps they do not have the same satisfaction with the page flip. My personal experience with buying used online has led me to only purchase ones rated "very good" or "like new". My "good" is often not the same as their "good." Also I am convinced they often don't even give the pages a quick flip to make sure there isn't an issue - like your nail polish edges 🤷♀.

You probably won’t see this as I’m pretty late but the HDM tv show is very good. The casting is great, it’s devastating and beautiful from the set design to the writing. I haven’t seen it in a while but me and my siblings loved it a lot

12:27 I feel that pain very, very, deeply. I've been burned twice by second hand sellers. One I had ordered was listed as great condition. When I opened it, it was super sticky. It was like some drizzled syrup all over it. The second time they said it was in good condition and then when I got it, it was completely water damaged. Life lesson, don't buy it if they use a stock photo and not an actually photo. I've learned that the hard way lmao

And the character name is most likely pronounced as 'yas' - short for jasmine. Although jas in dutch also means coat 🙃
