Here it is !! Part one of the Gary Numan interview !! This is a HUGE moment for the channel and a dream come true !! Please leave your comments below, click "like" and share this video with the world!! Thank you all for your constant support!! VG :-)
Just to add to this. Gary's book came out on Audible, and he narrates. So powerful to hear him tell his story. The chapter about his parents, especially is mother had me in tears while on a long drive down California.
I have not listened to Gary Numan in a long time, but that is going to change. I have a new found respect for him, what a great attitude, and outlook on life.
Gary Numan fan here, greatly respect his talent and honesty. I'm hoping to see him on tour fall 2022 where I live in CA :) I enjoyed this interview, thank you Vaughn George.
Don’t feel bad, my 1st Gary show was in 2019. I’m 43. I just got into his music in 2019. I always liked Cars and I knew there had to be more. Oh wow, oh so much more. A shit load of bitchin music. I’m happy to still find songs that blow me away. Currently besides Intruder, songs like “miracles” and “Voix”. The live version of Voix is my favorite version. Oh yeah, tour dates are listed on his website. The states start in sept
Before watching your videos, I never paid much attention to Gary Numan, but thanks to you, he is now one of my favorite artists. Congratulations on getting him and Ade on your channel! Very much looking forward to watching the interview, which I am sure will be great, just like the ones you did with David Brooks.
Great interview. One thing I noticed is Gary’s choice of words. Apart from being a forward thinking artist (an expert at reinvention) whom I have followed since day one, he is also very articulate. His honesty is to be applauded. Vaughn, I think you used the word ‘endearing’. He certainly is. I think it’s important how you portray yourself in the world of music. Honesty brings likability and trust. He’s accepting of his uninspired era and has more than made up for that low period in his life. What a legend - and credit to Gemma for being his rock.
Good interview. You are right that he is getting better - I’d not bought a Gary Numan album since replicas but when I heard My Name is Ruin I went back and bought all his more recent stuff which is really brilliant.
What a fantastic interview! Gary Numan is such a real and genuine person, and it shines through in total clarity here. Thank you for doing this with him. My appreciation for him just continues to grow, and I am so thankful for all of his years of music and contributions to us.
I discovered Gary Numan a couple of months ago thanks to Spotify suggestion (based on my music list). I fell in love ❤️ at once. The song they recommended was (a live version of) “A prayer for the unborn”. I was hooked ✨ I love the album “Savage” and “Now and forever”. I have not yet listen to all his albums so I am in for a treat 🥳 When I saw this interview I was like.... what??? This brilliant man has been making music for so many years???!!! Where have I been??? 🤷♀️ I suppose in a Depeche Mode haze 😂😂😂 (Sorry if I have a lot of mistakes in my writing, I am from Sweden 🇸🇪 😬)
Your in for journey, the highs of the early years, the lows when Numan lost his way , but the legend came back better than ever. Hope you get to see a live gig, you will love it. Numanoid forever
@@simonturner3176 Yes I would love to see him live. Looking at some on RUclips. I am so glad that he has so many live albums too. 👍 So happy that Spotify recommended him to me❤️ And I have found other artists this way. It’s a little scary how accurate their suggestion can be 😂😂
That was a brilliant interview Vaughn, thankyou and I look forward to the next one! I saw Gary three years ago at the Shepherd's Bush Empire and In Conversation at the Festival Hall London - Gemma was sitting in the front row ! My Intruder picture disc arrived today so I'll be playing it all tomorrow, I'm looking forward to the gig at Wembley - tickets go on sale next Friday. I'd very much like to meet Gary, so maybe at one of the rehearsals! Thanks again, Sabine, London.
Brilliant Vaughn, I thought back years ago when I was your subscriber 57 or something I thought yeah this guy is for real and now here you are interviewing the wonderful Gary Numan, Bravo dude...respect....many more to come....
I didn't expect to laugh so much! What a lovely, relaxed and honest interview you achieved. Seriously good work, Vaughn! Looking forward to the Geek Talk one.
Mr. Webb is one of only a very few artist's that who is a very genuine & sincere person . He acknowledges his down time , i followed him up till the Warriors album then he lost his way ....but now well good on him ..keep going Gary .
Such a great interview. Love Vaughn's analysis and Numan is one of the true pioneers who uncovered and birthed synthpop. Thank you both for this. Gary's philosophical interests are so profound. Once can connect with the essence of Zoroastrianism, Gnosticism, Catharism and the philosophy of Nietzsche in his creations. The Darkwave Synthpop that Gary and others birthed are the true "B Side" of history, the darker but radically more creative reading on reality while the A Side producers pushed canned material devoid of radical, emancipatory potential. Just bought Gary Numan "Revolution" on Amazon too. Wouldn't have known about it without Vaughn's reference.
Bloody hell, you're chatting with Gary Numan !!. What a splendid bloke. Really excellent interview Vaughn, you got some really heartfelt insight from himself.
been a fan for 4 decades (even trhe stuff he doesn't quite like, i loved strange charm and the fury, for example), and he is as down to earth as he's always been. savage was an incredible disc, bit of a game-changer, and intruder sounds in the same vein, so hopes are high. replicas changed my life. literally. it was a huge shift in my psyche when it arrived. i've seen him 3 times live, in toronto (i'm canadian). love the man, and his music. thanks to gemma for kicking him in the ass and getting him back on track initially. he is just, like bowie, the ultimate chameleon, changing look and feel, both audio and visuallly. a legend, imho.
Love you Gary. Saw you in Melbourne about 6 years ago. One of the best concerts I've ever seen. Was surprised to read in your bio what a difficult time it was.
Brilliant way to interview a guest. You actually let them talk. With just this half hour we've been given a lot. Over here in the U.S. people tend to live in the past and only listen to music that reminds them of their youth. Radio is saturated with Classic Rock here. I do find it amusing that Grandpa Jagger will still sing "Brown Sugar" while running around on stage.
@@viol8r ahhh sorry man!! Hahaha looks like I have been working too hard today !! As far as your comment is concerned , I agree that that track is awesome and I love the title of that track !! VG :-)
Fantastic interview. I have been to a rehearsal. It was one 3 years ago in February in very bad weather; a few could not make it because of the snow. It was brilliant. My son bought it for me for my 50th. He loved it. Very good vid/interview VG. Xxxx.
My favorite part of Gary's insight is him explaining how he decided to document and share from beginning of writing the songs through to performing onstage. That success isn't smoke and mirrors--it's HARD WORK-- and there's really no way of getting around that, so prepare yourself for your journey, whatever it may be ❤ This interview wasn't surface info or small talk... somehow you get people to really talk to you and that is so refreshing 🤩
I've had the pleasure of meeting with GN at a number of his rehearsal sessions over the years and found that he is a very approachable and likeable human being. Think this comes across in your interview very well. Well done Vaughn, great job.
Wo! What a beautiful and honest interview. I always knew Gary was a nice guy and this has just affirmed that. An honour to watch and proud moment for the channel. Well done Vaughn 🎹
How nice that he melts when his daughter is near. An all-round good family guy... I'm looking forward to his upcoming release on May 21st, as well as the live online concert June 17th!

Fantastic vide Vaughn, thank you. I remember a while back you mentioned that you were going to do album reviews for Gary Numan in much the same way that you have done them for Depeche Mode. Is that still the plan?
Nice interview Vaughn, 30 minutes passed by all too quick. Thanks to Mr Numan for making this interview possible and for your honest replies. Looking forward to Part II now. ❤️

I discovered an album a few years back called Esoteric VS Gary Numan. It's by an electronic music producer that uses heavy hip-hop beats and booming bass in his work. This album is all songs he did with tracks heavily laden with Gary Numan samples. If you want to hear Gary's haunting synths with banging hip-hop beats and tons of samples from old PSAs from the 50s,and that sort of thing, it is definitely worth a listen. I love it. Some Numanoids may consider sacrilege... Lol
Vaughn you are A BIG Numan fan. I can hear it in every sentence that you make. I'm in the middle of reading Gary's newest book. I also try listening to his 80's song. What I find is the most interesting thing about Gary. There is similarity between his 80's songs and Intruders. Off course minus the backing female vocal, funk element, all that excessive part. Intruders is like the combination between 78-80's Gary with post 2000 Gary. This album has industrial and dark element to it but not too much. Combine that with electronic part in early Gary's songs. This album is Gary being Gary. Not Depeche Mode nor NIN.
Some good points made about 'nostalgic' acts. Even Paul McCartney struggles to engage an audience when he brings on new music at a gig. It is rare to see artists who continually bring an audience in who is gagging to see the new stuff after 40 years!! It's quite a feat.
I love how Depeche Mode's Songs of Faith and Devotion helped bring Gary out of that dark period pre 93/94, and DM clearly has influenced his work in some ways since then.
I know this is an "Intruder" discussion, but if I were to interview Gary Numan, one of the things I'd ask him is whether, in "And It All Began With You," he consciously intended so sound like Chris Isaak in "Wicked Game."
