American Idol's sound crew is getting kinda beat up in the comments, but consider this.. The TV show is live and they only get one shot to fine-tune the contestant WHILE it is happening.. Then, in two minutes, it's another contestant, with different instrumentation, different vocal mic gain settings and, sometimes, on a different set.. It's amazing that it sounds as good as it does considering the nightmare it must be to deliver quality audio for TV.. It's COMPLETELY different than live concert sound and they have to do BOTH at the same time.. The results aren't always perfect, but I give them props..
do you know about digital mixers? with one push of a button you have a.different preset per contestant. so no excuses for AI sound engr to mess up audio
_OtapOtep.. EVERY digitally saved soundcheck mix is tweaked once the room is full and the band/artist goes live.. You think they simply push a button and walk away from it?.. Right..
I'm simply saying people generally don't recognize the challenges the audio engineers encounter in this situation.. It's pretty much the same with award shows, the TV mixes are sometimes hit and miss..
