    The first one is NOT actually of a rat at all! In fact, it is of a SNAKE! I even dare to bet that the mistake came from the skull being that of a 'rat snake', which is simply a species of snake.

      Definitely a snake from the constrictor family you can tell by the rows of teeth. Constrictors will bite and wrap, so their fangs point back so that once they are in they are in and the prey item cannot easily escape. I'm not sure which species it is, but my brain thinks green tree python lmao but one wouldn't know the specific genus unless that's what they specialize in. A rattlesnake tends to have 2 very large fangs and are a part of the pit viper family. Due to the sheer size I think people can rule out ratsnake species as well.^^;

      interesting is why snakes have the split jaw.
      (description mainly applies to the non venomous but suffocating types)
      It's if they have bitten their prey while choking them, they use their three separate skull parts to "walk/crawl" over them, encasing them in the process until they are swallowed.

    As someone who has bveen in the area of biology (spefically paleontology) for around 10 years; its cool to see how people; even great artists, tend to represent creatures as shrinkwraped monsters. It's a delightful representation of human nature; the fear of the unknown leads us to imagine beings as way more terrifying than they actually are.
    Sidenote: Animals _always_ have at least one layer of muscle tissue and fat around their bones. They can also have structures that are cannot remain in bone/fossil record; such as trunks (like elphants have), queratinous bumps (like crocodile scales), feathers (like dromeaosaurs, although we know they had them), and fur.

      that said, when you claim to be pro smaller artists / creators and then don’t credit their ideas (even if they weren’t directly copied but just coincidentally happened to match up) that’s when you start to seem hypocritical and it begins to seem as though you only support them in the context of your own channels and content, where you personally are making money from it. it could’ve been anything from not wanting a bigger controversy to bubble up to quite literally an honest mistake, it’s impossible to know.

    Just going based on ur first drawing, the python skull (not a rat skull). You used the post orbital fanestra as an ear opening, which isn’t correct, I believe that cavity is used to attach large jaw muscles to the skull, so there would be no space for an ear. No worries abt it mostly though, I’ve made the same meistake before too!
    Edit: the ear goes just behind the skull. in dinosaur skulls, which I’m most familiar with, there’s a little notch of bone right above where the ear hole goes and it creates a sort of Bay Area where the tissue around the ear and the ear itself fits. Have a look at some dinosaur skulls and you’ll see what I mean

    Love that the top comments are people saying the first skull was a snake skull not a rat. Glad to have found my fellow reptile/animal anatomy nerds.
    Anyway the variety in the different designs Jazza made just from a skull are all grate. A whole menagerie of creatures.

      Can we just take a moment to realize how often he uploads ... worse and worse content ? With all the side projects he has going on it's expected, but the videos feel more and more rushed, the mediums are barely explored, the ideas are recycled from tiktok and other content creators, all of that packaged in a neat "high production" video with barely any soul left, only to be one more ad for the sketch pack.
      Again it's expected with the other channels he has going on, the video game company, his family and things we probably don't know about. He's strapped for time and it's showing more and more in the videos, himself admitting to that and one of the latest Insert Art video. This channel being the more successful one has to bring in the cash to keep all the "side" projects going, hence the frequent uploads, we're losing a lot of the identity. It's pretty obvious even in the art itself, less complete and complex pieces, more sketch art, rushing through the art process only to get 5minutes of ads instead.

      @@jpbkiller yeah that's true. But I mean. How long is he doing this for right? Maybe he's burned out and because of his amount of subscribers break would be fatal. When this is your only job. Sometimes you have to just produce to keep on living. It's kinda sad. Like i see a lot of content creators having the same energy. Most people nowdays do it for money, not fun how it was before, and mostly in a first place with all of these "og" RUclipsrs

      Sadly disagree the quality of content has gone down and down. Nothing original and all we get is jazza shilling stuff and asking for likes and subs no actual decent art content anymore all shilling and filling. 😢😢

    First skull is some sort of snake. You can tell by the split bottom jaw and teeth that point backwards. The angle of teeth keeps prey trapped once they get a good bite on it, and the split bottom jaw allows them to swallow very large prey. Rats do not have a mouth full of fangs, among many other things that are different.

    This perfectly illustrates why doing accurate paleoart is so difficult. It's really hard to protray an animal in the flesh when all you have to go on are some scattered disarticulated fossilized bones from millions of years ago.

    I love watching your videos. They're so fun. It reminds me that I love to sketch, as well. (Though I've never used pens, just pencil.) I like to stare at knotholes, watermarks, stains on the ground, tile patterns and create creatures and characters from what I see. One of my instructors told me that is the 'heart' of eccentric illustration. *LOL*
