There is a quote/saying that goes something like this: the minute you settle for less than you deserve, you will be given half of what you settled for.
I never knew that Co-dependency had more meanings than hanging around someone alot or depending on someone for everything. I am so glad I clicked on this because this describes me to a T. And I never knew that it could actually be defined like this. And then her giving advice on how to handle it, it has really opened up my mind to how I'm acting and how it benefits me more than others. Because I am typically a big people person. It really fucked with my head. I know myself for being independent and doing everything for myself, but also ALWAYS offerring help or solutions for others. You have to get the book "Codependency No More" (By Melodie (sorry forgot last name)- it is a life changing book- really discusses why we have these tendencies and how to create boundaries.
My mom went to a codependency course and it saved our relationship. I was in college at the time and just thought my mom was a helicopter and annoying but still loving. Whenever I came home , I noticed the changes she made. We could talk openly using the vocabulary of codependency. The free course was hosted by a local church but wasn't religious. It's great to hear more people talking about codependency AND free resources.

Codependency is rooted in your childhood. It is often from the relationship that you had/have with a narcissistic parent. As a child, you probably were not validated (being told that who you are is ok). You probably were not allowed to express your emotions. Being a codependent person is dangerous because we keep people around us who are toxic in the hope that "we can fix them."

Oh my god, I think I found another female role model. I already thought Whitney was hilarious, but I didn't know how intelligent and accomplished and down to earth she was! So cool-thank you for having her on, Ashley! (love you too!)
Lovely to watch the openness and the self awareness Witney demonstrates.....All the work done to put herself first truly made her embrace her true self. Thank you! Did not know how big of a deal she was :)
Excellent points Whitney. Codependency is rooted in enabling the bad behaviours of others. We are the "helpers," the advice givers, the "my love will change him/make him better," we are the people who stop for wounded animals and we have people in our lives because we pity them. Once you recognize these behaviours in yourself, you can begin to heal and work on bettering yourself. If you cannot love who you are, there is no way you can have a healthy and successful relationship with anyone else. Shout out to CoDA!!!!!
I love the content covered in this interview. Very insightful and motivational! I can definitely relate to many hardships both Whitney and Ashley have gone through, but recognizing the biochemical science behind our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors is liberating. Thank you for being so open and honest.
Thank you so much for sharing this conversation with us. I keep talking with other people about this, how women wait for perfection and showing what they've already accomplished, while men can get ahead on potential. We need to dare take those steps forward too, an I will be taking my steps that I've been holding back on for months now, that I knew I needed and wanted to do but I haven't done yet because of this inherent fear. Thank you so much.
a lot of ethnic women have that fear, because of cultural pressures in their 20's it usually starts around 23, I've notice that in myself as well that I am lowering my standards etc. because god forbid I'm not married and have two babies before 30 while simultaneously graduating from university and having a great career. And I just because of this conversation made a promise to myself that I am going to freeze my eggs at 28.
I saw a few comments about putting the person you are interviewing in the thumbnail and I just wanted to say thanks for doing that! It grabs your attention before you even decide to watch it.

I have overcome the codependency in my relationship and we are in a very good place.. still needs some tweaking but doesn't everybody. Lol. This video was confirmation for me. Thank you Ashley and Whitney.. 😇🥰
I don't know how this popped in my suggestiona. But I am so greatful for this . Whitney you saved me . Thank you so much ❤️
Oh my god, I think I found another female role model.
Fantastic interview. I've got so many points I want to really look into from this.
I wish I could press more thumbs up. This interview is so empowering! Love how natural they are.
I learned so much for this episode. Thank you ladies! 💛
The first time seeing Whitney Cummings ... Valuable and very relevant podcast 💕💕
I think you are amazing Whitney! Thank you so much for your honesty and your vulnerability. I can so relate to so much of what you said.
Great listen ladies.
Two of my fav ladies! Love this!
Amazing insightful conversation, thanks very much!
Loved this!! The insights on codependency were awesome! Thank YOU! (And I mean all of you who work on this ❤️)
Excellent points Whitney.
Shout out to CoDA!!!!!
thank you so much im trying
Wow, thank you Whitney! You've enlightened me on the real meaning of co-dependency, it's development and how to honor ones self. Thank you!!!
Ashley thank you so much for being so inspiring
🤬🤬🤬 Damnit Codependency! Hit the nail on the head. 🙋🏾♀️ This is me, now I have the words.
a lot of ethnic women have that fear, because of cultural pressures in their 20's it usually starts around 23, I've notice that in myself as well that I am lowering my standards etc. because god forbid I'm not married and have two babies before 30 while simultaneously graduating from university and having a great career.
And I just because of this conversation made a promise to myself that I am going to freeze my eggs at 28.
I saw a few comments about putting the person you are interviewing in the thumbnail and I just wanted to say thanks for doing that! It grabs your attention before you even decide to watch it.
Whitney might have changed my life forever with these explanations. Thank you Ashley and Whitney
