At 5:10 that's incorrect if there is any play in the slide lock. The plate only needs to go up a few inches, the lip pulled forward and then the plate can be lowered to below dock level, where theoretically one could then use a long rod or shaft to release the slide lock from underneath the door. Wouldn't it be safer as well to use a hook to pull the rod towards you? In the video the maintenance man puts his head and limbs underneath the leveler briefly. God forbid that a spring would break or something should force the leveler downward as he is reaching in.
Thank you so much, Awesome training video, I have a leveler that rises again when the lip sits on the truck bed, it only does it with the 20 foot long shipping containers that are usually very high, I replaced the broken extension spring but the problem remain un resolved. please advise. Thanks
Great video. I work on Serco, Kelly and Blue Giant. Kelly is one of the better to work on. Serco is the one i like the best and Blue Giant is by far the worst. I have a couple of the air bag systems and in twenty years I have replaced one air motor and had to re-weld in one bracket that broke loose.. When I have to replace a leveler, I always try to get the company to buy air bag systems. I also have a few hydraulic units. They work good until they start leaking. I prefer the air bags.
Does anyone know if there's a way to decrease the amount of force required to place the dock plate? I'm having an issue where the dock plate comes up strong and correctly, but needs more than 1 person to safely lower to the trailer. Is there any way to possibly lower that resistance without having to change the whole mechanism?
So the back chain to lift the plate broke on me, any ideas on how to to get the plate in the up position so we can fish out the chain and reattach the ring? Thanks

These ones didn't. Many don't and just rely on friction of the lip on the trailer bed, trailer brakes/wheel chocks, or a sloped ramp where the trucks back in to keep the trailer pushed into the building. There is another video on RUclips showing a few of the retainers you're looking for.
Recently, a teenager by the name of Tim Rich, died because of a plate mishap. It happened in Greenwood Indiana at the Aldi warehouse and I believe the reports said COD was asphyxiation from the plate. How in the world could that happen?
aweiserbud Im looking at the videos for the same reasons! I used to work at a warehouse and I can’t figure it out. Unless he was working underneath it and it collapsed
They do blow. They are the Cadillac of levelers, and if you've ever had to work a Cadillac you know what I mean. Air powered is the way to go, but now that the patents are running out and other manufacturers are getting into it you can get an airbag machine that doesn't have two thousand parts like a #%$@# Kelly.
Kelley blows! They like to make everything difficult from everyone else! I just replaced a Kelley airbag and it' wasn't cheap just as much can go bad on an air powered unit especially Kelley garbage.. Not to mention I'm always repairing cross traffic legs on those ugly green things
Really helpful, my friend. That was just what we needed.
thanks for sharing, people like you make the internet a true free space
Great teacher. Your video was perfect for what i needed. Thank you
Wow, so clean under there. The one I was working on today was dirty as hell.
Mine has a broken lip spring

I have a dock leveler with seven springs. I was wondering if I can get in touch with you and ask you a couple questions
Awesome video! Thank you for making it....
I start tomorrow. Needless to say i learn everything on RUclips. 😂😂😂
Do u have a video like this of a hydraulic leveler
Nice overview, and the cat was hilarious.
Use a rated DOCK STAND. do not rely on the ones that are provided underneath unless you are just using it for LOOKING AND NOT GOING UNDER.

Sounds like the main springs might have too much tension. If that's not it, may want to check the ratchet hold down.
You might have the 200lb version cause we have 2 dock versions at our factory 100 lb and 200 lb
So the back chain to lift the plate broke on me, any ideas on how to to get the plate in the up position so we can fish out the chain and reattach the ring? Thanks
Can the ratchet bar be replaced ?
AMazing - what kind of brand is it? we would like to make inquiry for 3 of these kind of ramps.

So how does this lock onto the truck? I work in a dock and always wondered how.

Excellent work,,
Does the lip drop if a trailer pulls out?
Usually yes, but due to the gas spring, No.

I believe it mentioned he worked for a transportation company so maybe he was doing something with the trailer... it's so sad.
aweiserbud there was a follow up article on it. I guess he went under it to try and fix something and then it fell on him :(
Good video, Thanks
I want it. How do I Do to buy?
Hi there, check out our product line.

Oh yeah reminds me there restraints are terrible as well!!! Thanks for letting rant here
molded bumpers on a pit leveler are the worse, but all and all nice vid.
If it was getting hard to pull the chain to lift the dock leveler, what would be the possible reason for this?

Fluffy the cat! hahahaha
Poor fluffy. He was curious how these worked, forgot the prop rod and chose a bad place to take a nap.
Fluffy's not so fluffy anymore.
I love my job
safety is a serious matter NO JOKE (hard hat maybe a good idea)
Hard hat saved my life when I had one fall onto me! Wear your equipment people, trust me!!
