Infinity Cube Clock

- Here’s an innovative twist on the popular Infinity Cube - an Infinity Cube Clock. Author/Craftsman Nick Engler shows shows how to build a small infinity cube. (Actually, since it's rectangular, it’s more of an infinity box.) He then mounts an electronic pendulum clock in it - complete with electronic chimes. Extremely contemporary and both beautiful and intriguing to look at. If you’d like to build your own copy, plans and instructions are available at workshopcompan... .
A Note from Nick: If you watch this video and find yourself wondering why I ignored every rule of good joinery when assembling the clock case, let me tell you the clock is made thermally-modified quartersawn red oak. That's how I was able to glue the clock face directly to the sides without allowing for expansion and contraction. The combination of thermal modification and quartersawn grain reduced the rate of movement to well under 2%. It's a very different animal.
Another Note: If you're wondering which movement we used, you can find it here: www.amazon.com... .

And thank you so much for your time and interest!
I've been watching this channel for about 20 minutes, and I've already picked up 5 new woodworking tricks. I think I could learn a lot from here!
Thanks -- stay as long as you'd like.
Absolutely stunning Nick. My 3rd time through this video and my head is still spinning. Aside from the sheer artistry of your design and craftsmanship in figuring all the parts out and how to assemble them efficiently, your gluing and clamping is sheer magic. Thanks.
Thank you for your kind words. The gluing and clamping were a simple matter on our assembly table, See ruclips.net/video/1ujUF5skCzI/видео.html
Beautiful job. Saved for watching again (and again......).
Thanks for the kind words.
I not really into modern art, but I do like that clock, frame, and stand quite a bit!
absolutely Love your Channel ! I love the narrating and your spin on different things ,,, your not scared to get a little glue on your hands . Love your work apron ,,, your shop in the background ,,, and your ease and plain talk . I'm Hooked , subscribed and enjoying every minute. And Love the Music !
The dogs. Liberty and Bell are telling me you forgot to mention the dogs...;-) Seriously, thanks for your kind words.
You are the gig master
WOW! I am absolutely speechless. So beautiful
Kind of you to say.
Nice work, Nick.
Thanks, Scott.
One of the first things I made in my shop (as opposed to the the community shops I was using before COVID) was an infinity cube, out of pine, to see if I could. I plan to make some end tables out of real wood. Now I must make this. I love it!
Thanks. And before you make another infinity cube, Laura, you might want to think about acquiring two things. First, get our plans for the clock and carefully read Step 18. I'm not trying to sell plans (well, I am, but not "just" trying to sell plans), but you should realize that infinity cubes are problematic woodworking designs. Visually interesting, but they violate every known principle of wood engineering. They will quickly sag due to (1) gravity and the unavoidable fact that (2) wood "creeps" under pressure. There are things you can do to forestall this without sacrificing the the visual impact of the design. And second, take a look at our Assembly Table video ( ruclips.net/video/1ujUF5skCzI/видео.html ). As you are aware, the infinity cube requires a precision glue-up, and the table helps immensely. In fact, we give away a plan for the assembly table with the Infinity Cube Clock plan just because I think it greatly increases the likelihood of a problem-free assembly.
Your clamp game has to be on point to do this project. Awesome
Think "assembly table." Watch the video --- you'll see how easy it can be with the right set-up. ruclips.net/video/1ujUF5skCzI/видео.html
Sir . I love to fallow your channel So helpful in many ways
Thanks for the kind words.
How do you make this look easy?! Not that it is, but he makes it seem that way!🤔
Omg I think I may need to make a few of these
Good luck!
Music please? Very listenable.
It's a soundtrack we purchased from Epidemic Sound -- they specialize in music for videos.
very kewl work, great job
Thanx.
Outstanding Nick. Inspirational craftmanship. (And I want one of those assembly tables :) )
Plans for the assembly table come free with the clock plans. See workshopcompanion.selz.com/item/infinity-cube-clock. Or you can order the assembly table plans without the clock at workshopcompanion.selz.com/item/assembly-tables .
Amazing! And looks a great project to use up some scrap wood
Only if that scrap wood is perfectly straight-grained and knot-free. I can't stress too much just how important it is to make this project with clear, straight, shop-dried wood. Any reaction wood, any wood in which the moisture content is not in equilibrium with the relative humidity of your shop, and you'll have the devil's own time keeping the rails and posts straight and true.
Where can I buy one already assembled? I don't really have time to build my own but I really love this clock you made.

Lindos trabalhos Maravilha. 👏👏👏👏
Gracias por tus amables palabras.
Darn it, now I expect more from RUclips. This should have more views.
Beautiful design and workmanship. Are there plans available?
You can find the plans at workshopcompanion.selz.com/item/infinity-cube-clock . Both English and metric measurements!
What is the small piece In the bottom left corner of the cube in the last pictures of the finished clock
Timecode?
@@WorkshopCompanion it's at 14:07.. it's not easy to see but in the lower left hand corner of the infinity cube there is a small piece of wood.. I am assuming it's a support piece for the structure because I've seen others make this cube and almost every other video I've seen on these there has to be a piece in that area to keep the cube stable
@@markhendrix745 It is a support piece. In my plans (workshopcompanion.selz.com/item/infinity-cube-clock), I explain that the Infinity Cube design violates a cardinal rule of wood engineering and why it will quickly droop without additional support at several points. I show how to make small, easily removable support pieces and suggest that the builder keep them in place except when he/she has company and wants to show off.
What/who is the music here.
I had to google what Infinity Cube is...
