Just got our first AGH!! So excited. Just want to make sure we're doing the right thing. Thanks for sharing about them liking hay. I've noticed it keeps disappearing 😂😂
I fed my normal pigs hay, some grain and kitchen scraps. My wife and kids said they were monster pigs. These pigs would jump a 4' fence. They were very lean meat hogs, being primarily fed hay and they loved eating hay!
Yes your gilt is pregnant! I presoak my hogs pellets in warm water for about an hour prior to feeding time this helps to get the water into them in the cold freezing temps. Ensure she is getting enough nutrition during her pregnancy, as corn doesn't have all the vitimins she needs. Good luck! Tracy PS: Feel free to check out my channel as a big part of what we do relates to pigs. ;)
Just saw this video. An easy way to move a pig is to get in front of it, place and hold a 5 gallon bucket over its face then walk them backwards. Move the bucket to one side of their face or the other and you can steer em just like your backing up a trailer. Works every time, I've done it several times when moving my own pigs. Both you and the pig stay calm, very low stress.
Have you tried this? If not I encourage you to do so. IME it's a great way to turn a calm pig into a violent pig immediately. I've moved a few pigs and he demonstrated the very best method in this video: food. Experience is the best teacher so try your bucket method on a good sized but physically fit boar. Let us know how that works fof you.😊
HOW do you get them to eat the hay?? we have 4 AGH currently. bought some great quality grass hay with vetch, clover, trefoil, etc. but I can't get them to eat it! any tips from anyone??? would really love for them to eat it instead of playing in it. I noticed your hay is quite green...what kind do you feed? I wonder if that's what I'm missing
Couple of things, they will always eat grain before the hay so if you are giving them too much grains they will never eat the hay. Feed each pig one small scoop of grains in the morning and that't it, then let them eat the hay all day. Second, I would recommend 2nd or 3rd cutting hay. They seem to bed in the grasses and eat a lot of the alfalfa and clovers in the later cuttings.
Also i had a friend in school thay would bail cornstalks for cheep bedding, mabe you could work out a deal to bail some stalks after the corn is harvested. Just a thought love the channel and ready for deer hunting.
Hello, I got 10 chickens, and 1 rooster. The winter is coming in. So I need to prepare my chicken waterering system for the cold days. It concerns a 110 mm tube with 3 nipples. Placed outside. It gets around minus 10 here in the winter. How can I keep the water defrosted? Will a heat element do the job? Or will the little water drops hanging under the nipples still freeze? I like to hear from you/someone. Tnx a lot. Great vid. Btw. Cheers up my day! Greetings
Have you heard of Les Feldick? I never really understood what the Bible said until I started watching him.I really like your pigs and the scripture at the end.
About a decade or so ago there was a big push for towards internet marketing and then again roughly five years ago towards social media marketing. That's reasonable given how the internet and social media has changed how people connect and interact with one another. But I caution against solely using the internet and social media for marketing and promoting ones work.
Martha.......named after your mother in law? ;-) There is a large cow statue in the town i grew up in, and the man who ran the dairy named it Beatrice (after his mother-in-law)
I would like to go as big as our fencing and property can sustain here. I will be getting a second boar and continuing to keep the females to breed back and forth with the two boars. I would think that after a couple of years we may have 20 or more that we keep and breed just depending on the market for piglets and pork here.
+Jeff coonce right now it is all farming, starting a new church, and RUclips! Plans are to have a sustainable profitable farming operation over the next 2 years
You need to make a safe warm place for the piglets. Or you will lose some piglets if you dont. i am talking from exp. I ended up building a mini rocket mass heater. Witch keeps the ground warm in their closed off section. I made a small dog house that had no bottom. Also try to be there for the birth. So you can put them in there warm home
Note the piglets will move in to the bed when momma gets up bc its warm. Then they will get crushed. Also make that side gap smaller or you will lose piglets as well. I would use some chicke coop wire or something like that.
@@timothytravis5276 I don't know where this is, but here in Western Washington, my sows often prefer to farrow outdoors in a nest they make for themselves. In 6 years I only recall 3 losses, at that rate I attribute it to the occasional weak piglet rather than the environment Mama Sow chose to farrow.
Nope. There's a slight chance he might be mean to the babies, but I can confirm that's _not common_ with AGH. Even the uncles put up with all the babies' shit, let alone the father. Now, if a baby dies by accident somehow- weather, trampling, whatever, they will clean up the mess. But in 6 years of raising a combined herd with zero separation I've never seen any boar do anything worse than flip an annoying brat away with his nose lol.
if they are a pasture animal why do people confine them ? it just does not make sense do it that way , you do it generation after generation over many years they will eventually lose their natural instincts , many of the animals today are weak all because of Humans think they know best which we don't . enjoying the videos that I have watched so far , keep up the good work .
+Takeru Hayashida I totally agree, these pugs have a huge pasture that I am in the process of fixing up and putting in electric fence and shelters. They will live out there and have lots of room to graze and roam
+karen catalano I have tried and it feels like there is something there but I just can't say for sure. Once I go through this for the first time i will know what it all looks and feels like for next time
Beautiful pigs! We’re getting our first piglets this weekend. Not AGH but nevertheless a new chapter for our
Little ranch/farm in Central Texas.

We just got our agh's tuesday. Getting to know them. They love a little grain and lots of hay too.
I've seen people that use the metal cages from IBC totes for hay feeders just remove the plastic liner and you now have a big feeder

Bring on the pigs!!! Can't wait to see if she has some babies!! :)
So do you make the animal foods. Do you reccomend it.
Congratulations on the pig pregnancy! Do you have any idea what size herd of pigs you are eventually wanting to maintain?

Wow, that is so great!
Whoa looks like Martha might have a bunch of little ones!!!
Best pig lure is marshmallows
+Tyler Pollard never thought of that!
Love watching your channel! Do you farm full time or is this something that you do on the side?
+Jeff coonce right now it is all farming, starting a new church, and RUclips! Plans are to have a sustainable profitable farming operation over the next 2 years
update video?
+MikeGloomberg no babies yet, not sure she got pregnant at this point but will wait through the new year and then try again
My pigs love eating hay as well...
I never had pigs that eat hay. Now they will make a nest, but thats not eating hay. They may eat a little of it, but not like a cow.
Thanks for vid!
FUn to watch. Love this.
Are you feeding the hay you harvested?
Absolutely!
Feeding my pigs hay would very sustainable because they would die.
I would say yes. I would say she is pregnant.
i did not understand, he is only giving them hay?

+Daniel Taylor lol, I hope so!
Tell Summer that was some 1st class supervising she did while you crated up George.
250-300 lbs is a good size for when you want to butcher.

Do eat them or are they pets?
+Salmon Hunter we will breed them each year. Eat some and continue breeding more to sell and eat
When she bags up she will be close.
Can't you feel her belly to see if you feel movement?
+karen catalano I have tried and it feels like there is something there but I just can't say for sure. Once I go through this for the first time i will know what it all looks and feels like for next time
I guess they are in hog heaven. Sorry for the pun.
not super experienced with pigs but shouldn't you be feeding her more when she's pregnant? not much nutrition in dried hay for monogastric animal.
+Dubois Creek Cattle LLC she gets a ration of a balanced pig feed daily also but it isn't much compared to what you feed other breeds
Do pig have have teeth
For sure. Got a nice bite mark on my finger from my AGH mistaking my finger for a corn kernel.
