    I think alotta people are missing the point in Fieldy's method. They're expecting lead guitar style bass solo's and 1000 mile an hour slap to pass the thresshold of expectations to be impressive. This just isn't what you're gonna get with Fieldy, it's not his style.
    He's a dark funk man with hip-hop roots. He'll play cleverly syncopated basslines with face stanking space and sweet drops while always keeping it groovy and pretty catchy.
    This is just his style, he has the ability to play fast and I 100% know he'll be able to cover plenty of Marcus Millers stuff, expertly pay homage to Flea but again it's just not HIS style. In this album he's experimenting and acomplishing what he's set out to do. He isn't trying to be anything else, and he's fully embracing his signature style. Whether you guys think bashing 1 note on open A is all he's doing or not, you can't deny his competence. He knows exactly the tone he wants, he always grooves deep inside the pocket and you know for sure your body's moving with it because he's making it so.
    The job of a bassist isn't to be a lead guitarist, it's to compliment the songs arrangement and it's a tough job to do. Simple root notes work but they're also boring, Fieldy carries the groove combined with the melodies to get you hooked and he's on it like Gordon Ramsey at a grill, he's nailing it, he's head CEO of groovetown inc and you can't deny that without sounding like a dying athiest praying for god.

    • @JoeyBullet222
      @JoeyBullet222 6 лет назад +6

      sometimes the job requires you to play good though. this blows, i have better basslines from 10 yrs ago laying around if he needs any for the next one. lol

    • @MonsterJuiced
      @MonsterJuiced 6 лет назад

      No need to be shy about it man, give us some link! ;)
      I'd argue some of mine are pretty good too but can you imagine 'Here to Stay' any different? Or Trash, or even Got the Life? If I remember right it was actually Fieldy who got the main riff of Here to Stay down first, then proposed to it the band. There was an interview and he said "sometimes we write from the poems and othertimes you can just get inspired from a real good riff".

      Well said, it's easy to sit back and complain, but many of his colleagues in Rock and Metal that wouldn't be able to lay down funk lines like he does. Fieldy has never claimed to be the greatest bassist on the planet, but he does have his own style and here he's just expressing it in a way he really hasn't before. It's nice listen, but if you weren't a fan of his style before, you probably aren't going to be a fan of it now.

    Blows my mind still that you guys love koRn and yet claim this album sucks. How much are you listening to? And if you don't like KoRn then why are you here critisising someone who obviously does music you don't enjoy? It's like me going to a Rihanna music video knowing full well I hate it and then telling everyone in the comments that I hate it.
    If you got feedback, post it and explain what the hell you're talking about. What sucks? Literally all of it? Every aspect of the music? From an academic perspective there's so much happening in these songs and I feel you're just not getting it.

    • @DeceptiveSS
      @DeceptiveSS 6 лет назад +2

      I love KoRn, I do not claim this album sucks, but I am entitled to give an opinion: not enough effort was put into that album, melodic lines are mostly uninteresting and repetitive in longer run, I honestly do not like the fact that additional instruments sound like taken from free MIDI sample packs available in OEM versions of DAWs that come bundled with older USB audio interfaces (which makes Ray's parts stand out even more, he nailed his job here!).
      In many moments I felt that basslines and other instruments were recorded totally separately and later they were slammed together in DAW in "let's see what happens" fashion, but then left it like this. Yes, there were moments when they went accurate with each other (also in terms of positive discrepancies), but - which makes me sad - some lines were just inaccurately laid down. They sounded like someone forgot to note that there should have been another takes of some parts, leaving the "rough draft" recordings in place.
      I find this, however, promising and hopefully next Fieldy's album will be more mature in terms of accuracy. I cannot tell him what to do, but I believe that he could even be possible to penetrate also the are of non-bass guitars to more accurately deliver his vision, not only through the usage of MIDI tracks.
      Also, most of the time, it feels like a bunch of tracks that could collectively form an interesting radio channel in GTA games franchise.

      @@megilacuttyjones735 look, it's fine if you like Fieldy's role in Korn and what he brings to the table, but to claim that he's anything close to being technically proficient is just either nonsense, or you don't know anything about bass playing. I'm guessing you're either not a bass player, or maybe are a beginner. This solo album is a perfect example of Fieldy's ineptitude, his absolute lack of musicality, sense of timing and compositional skills (zero). It sounds like something a beginner would do in Fruity Loops 15 years ago to show to his friends. It doesn't have to be technically impressive, why do you people always go to that shallow point? What it should do is be musical, or at least interesting in an experimental way. This is absolutely nothing. No groove, no musicality, nothing in the way of experimental-art-house, this is literally nothing but catering to the biggest of his fans that would eat just about any shit he puts out. Oh and, check out Fieldy's cameo in Limp Bizkit (I don't like the band) live concert where he noodles a bassline of theirs for a bit. Once Sam Rivers takes over, he absolutely annihilates Fieldy and you can immediately tell who the pro bass player is, and who the hack fraud is.

    This sounds like good music for the background or something it's not meant to be judged as normal music, I could see this being used as instrumental music for practicing bassist, or like a RUclips video. It's odd but I don't hate it
