  • Hello!,
    This is the first video of a small build series on my Tesla-powered Toyota Hilux. It's a 1972 Toyota Hilux that I decided to go electric on. I build electric cars at EV WEST in San Marcos California and enjoy getting lots of power and reliability out of these old cars. Not to mention the fact that its near free to operate these cars once converted.
    So I hope you enjoy this video. And if you feel like it. do all that RUclips stuff that makes their algorithm like me more.
    Thanks!

    Thanks so much for putting this out there, like others, I just watched all your EV content. I'm converting and old car from 1928 and am on to the DeDion now. Thx again.

      Of course!! Thanks for watching! That sounds like a great project. The DeDion seams to be the best cheapest solution for these things

    I've watched this video about 10 times at least. I've decided that I'm going to do this with my EV build as well! Probably going to plagiarize your design as much as I can, but use all Nissan Leaf parts.

    I love this video. I have a 1986 toyota 1 ton pickup that the 22re is starting to give me a headache and I've been looking to convert it to electric. The info in these videos is helping see that you can build an electric vehicle at home. Thanks for all the good info! I'm super excited to see how this build progresses.

    What a cool project! Please keep it going. Love the fabrication shop you have set up there. You just need a lift if you have the roof clearance and it's a dream shop!

    De-dion doesn't need to be anywhere near that bulky, lol. Cool that you can reuse the leaf springs, but if you ever wanna link it, look into a Satchell Link. It's a triangulated 4 link, but the uppers are parallel and the lowers are triangulated on the chassis side compared to how T4Ls are usually done. Gives you a low roll center, good anti-squat, AND no roll-induced axle-oversteer

    I am really intrigued by this and the possibilities of the De Dion axle. I’m planning a conversion on a 1982 K-2500 GMC, and I’m thinking about a De Dion setup as an option for the truck. I just can’t settle on whether I should retain the leaf springs or go for an airbag setup if I go with the De Dion.

      Thanks! That would be a cool build. That truck is big enough you might be able to get a whole Tesla subframe in there with independent rear.

    This is a quite smart way to go about putting a Tesla SDU in your truck. I had been looking at trailing arm setups but for a truck that is already leaf spring hung this really has a lot to offer. Since you've been using the truck a while have you checked to see your KWH/mile and your range on your pack yet? This is the first time I've see an i3 pack used and the way it is packed also has a lot to offer if your planning a truck. Given how it fits between the rails I would think another one of these packs could maybe mounted under the cab thus doubling the capacity if it was needed. I wish you had more info on the build, pictures, details, etc.. A real nice job, thanks for posting it up here, DC.

    Followed. Excited to see this build. I have a 80 series land cruiser and been wondering if someone has considered EV a 80 series land cruiser.
    I’m also a huge fan of EV west!

    why not an IRS?

    • @J5Jonny5
      @J5Jonny5  2 года назад +1

      Its was easier from a fabrication point to just retain most of the stock truck suspension. plus.... to me straight axles and leaf's make it a truck.

      @@J5Jonny5 how hard would it be to put an motor an axle on the front as well?
