    Excellent vlog. Nice to watch a cruising video which doesn't just consist of someone flailing a camera about and endless shots of food. Also nice to get an intelligent subdued commentary too.

    We have booked a Norway and Iceland cruise on NCL Prima for August 25, 2024 also leaving from Southhampton and after viewing your video twice and subscribing!, I am even more excited!!!! You did an amazing video, so relaxing and just the right amout of commentary! I really look forward for your next cruise video! God bless you both and thank you for sharing in such a beautiful way! To me it's a 5 STAR video!!! If you have time to answer, I was wondering if Iceland Everywhere Tours, books tours in both Iceland and Norway? Thanks again!

    Such a fantastic vlog- beautiful filming, well done. Having already done Norway- and your film captures this experience very well indeed- we are now looking to go to Iceland on a cruise just because of this video. Chapeau!

      Thanks for your kind comment! Iceland really is like nowhere else and you won't regret it. Enjoy! I would definitely recommend Iceland Everywhere as an excursion provider - really well run and whilst their buses are small (I'm not tall and I bumped my head on the ceiling a few times!) it means you have a much more personal tour experience.

    Great video. We were on the same criuse as you and it was fab to see the ship and the places we visited again. You did a few different excursions to us so that was interesting too, seeing teh things we didn't. Such a shame you got covid at the end. You will have to go back.

    I'm wanting to go in June. Did y'all see the Northern Lights? Did you do any excursions? I love your vlog! I'm sad y'all got COVID though.

    • @travelwithtimalan1817
      @travelwithtimalan1817  11 дней назад

      Hey, firstly thanks for the feedback and glad you enjoyed it! June is a great time to go as the fjords are lush and alive without colour - but it's *not* the time to see the Northern Lights as it doesn't get dark at night! The midnight half-light in its own right is sort of other-worldly, mind you.
      In Ålesund we just took the little sightseeing train (www.bytoget.no - or do as we did and just book on the quay when you arrive. The town centre is right by the dock so if you can't get an immediate booking you can have a stroll around while you wait).
      In the long fjords (Nordfjord/Olden, Sognefjord/Skjolden) the sail through the fjord is almost better than any excursion you can buy! In Olden though we took the sightseeing bus down to a glacier viewpoint (again, booked at quay on the day) and on a more recent visit we took the Loen Skylight, which is expensive but the views are great (book at the quay, not through the ship).
      In any of these places you could literally get off the ship and have a wander around without really needing an excursion, but if your cruise also goes to Iceland I would *strongly* suggest pre-booking excursions as early as you can, preferably in a smaller group. Other than Reykjavík, the ports can be quite small and you won't necessarily find something on the day - but also, to get a feel for the landscape you need to get inland and see the volcanic formations and waterfalls. We used 'Iceland Everywhere' in Akureyri and Grundarfjördur, and would recommend them wholeheartedly. Yes, they use smaller buses which may not have the space of a full size motorcoach, but being in a small group (about 16) means a much more personal service and the kind of flexibility that the cruise excursions just aren't going to give you. We will use them again when we finally go back to Reykjavík.

Dud you go to the clinic and ask to be tested? Did they bring your meals to your room? Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

      Really excited for you! We paid on the day (by card, on the bus itself - we had tried to pay in advance but my card just didn't seem to work with their online payment system), but asked them in advance to quote the amount for all three including the discount and they sent us a summary.

    • @travelwithtimalan1817

      For us, no - granted, it was June/July and we were probably quite fortunate with the sea conditions, but even on the last few sea days when there was a bit of movement the ship handled it comfortably.

    sorry you got covid, how did Princess take care of meals for you? you didn't need to change rooms? did you both test positive? thanks...concerned future cruiser!

    • @travelwithtimalan1817
      @travelwithtimalan1817  Год назад

      Hi Marcy, thanks for your comment. We did indeed both test positive - weirdly we didn't test positive on their tests (we had brought our own tests and had symptoms) so the doctor needed to confirm it. That was the only bit where we had an issue - we had to be pretty firm with them to accept we weren't well! Once that was dealt with, we were looked after well and they had a concierge appointed specifically to look after those in isolation, who was genuinely helpful and empathetic. We were moved to a different (better, in our case, as it was a deluxe balcony, but I don't know if this was policy or just luck!) stateroom on another deck - I suppose this is so they can deal with them more easily as they're all together. We had access to the full dining room menus from the cabin as well as the normal room service offering and could also use the Medallion app to order drinks/snacks etc. We could have chosen to purchase selected meals from the speciality restaurants via the app/TV as well but given we weren't feeling great I think that would have been a bit wasted on us!
      I'm not sure if their policies have changed since but on balance the isolation was well managed. It was a shame to miss Reykjavík and having the run of the ship for the last three sea days but we don't regret having gone on the cruise.

    We are looking at Sky for this cruise in 2024. Did you find many children onboard? We have two younger teens.

    • @travelwithtimalan1817
      @travelwithtimalan1817  11 месяцев назад

      Thanks for watching! There really weren't that many children aboard, but then again as it wasn't UK school holidays at that point (June 2022) we weren't surprised - I got the sense that there were still activities organised for them but it was definitely mostly adults onboard.

    • @travelwithtimalan1817
      @travelwithtimalan1817  Год назад

      Hi Diane, thanks for your comment. We filmed it on a Canon EOS R6. I hadn't done any video before so I just used more or less the standard settings, but it turned out better than I was expecting. We used a Sennheiser MKE 200 microphone - it was a bit of a rushed purchase but I'm glad we did as the camera's inbuilt mic doesn't do so well in even a light breeze!

    Enjoyed the video. Hope you don’t mind answering a few questions as we’re doing this cruise next May.
    We’re in D511, I believe you were on Baha. Did the position of the lifeboats negatively affect your view?
    You didn’t mention which tour you took in Grundarfjordur. Mind sharing?

    • @travelwithtimalan1817
      @travelwithtimalan1817  2 года назад +1

      Hi sengamilne - thanks for your comment and glad you enjoyed the video. It really is a fabulous itinerary so you're in for a treat. I'd do it again tomorrow if I could. Our stateroom was B223, which is classed as 'mid-forward' and therefore actually ahead of the lifeboats. As such our view wasn't obstructed and we could look almost straight down. D511 is above a lifeboat, by the looks of things, so you may not be able to look straight down. However there is another deck of cabins below you so unless you're looking straight down I doubt the boats will be a problem. It might be worth a check of the Cruise Critic forums - there's a thread in the Princess section where people have posted reviews of their cabins and occasionally you can get an idea from there of what a similar cabin would be like.
      Our tours in both Akureyri and Grundarfjörður were with Iceland Everywhere. It's a small-bus tour so whilst the vehicle is not as spacious as a full size coach, it means you're in a much smaller group and have a bit more flexibility. Our guide, Siggi, was excellent and we would definitely recommend the whole experience. Really good value for money too. Hope you have a great time.

    Hi nice video i will be doing this cruise same ship next May one question regarding Iceland ports of call are there option to take 3rd party guided tours (coach) when the ship docks other than Princess' own excursion. thanks

    • @travelwithtimalan1817
      @travelwithtimalan1817  Год назад +1

      Hi there, thanks for your comment. Yes, you can book third-party tours at any port if you choose. What I would say is that some of the ports are quite small so there may not be lots of tour operators - I recommend you book early to avoid disappointment. We used Iceland Everywhere for our tours from Akureyri and Grundarfjordur, and I would highly recommend them. Our driver/guide Siggi was brilliant and the tours were excellent value. It's a mini coach so whilst it might not be as spacious as a full size touring coach, it's much better being in a smaller group. We will hopefully go back to Reykjavík next year and will certainly book our tour with them.
      Have a fantastic time - it really is a wonderful itinerary.
