    I actually needed to hear that. I stopped training the 4 or 5 goals i had because I wasn't getting any major progress for years. It got tiring, had low motivation, very little to no progress. This vid brings me back to the start of my journey and why i started. Now i plan to jump back in and focus to truely progress.

      Progress takes longer than you think, don't get discouraged. Think about gains in terms of months and years instead of days and weeks!

    This is the realest shit I’m just coming to terms with. I’ve made it a point to focus on muscle ups and handstand pushups. I made progress to a point and felt like I plateaud.
    I cut my training frequency in half focusing specifically on the main exercises and my progress began to increase again. The most simple explanation is I’m putting all of my focus and resources into what I want and giving myself more time/recovery between workouts to continue the heavy demands.

    Training only one skill on each movement worked great for me. For pushing, i would train handstands. For pulling, i would train one arm pulling variations(don't know if it actually counts as a skill but i got stronger and that strength will transfer well in levers) and pistol squats for legs.

    I always check these two athletes. I learned to focus down on skills, but having this laser focus is very helpful. Pistol squat, handstand, L-sit.
    But I use machines to built strength, especially upper body strength. And cycle for fun.

    Exactly like my own conclusion after the last 2 years. Focus on 1 pull and 1 push goal. Maintaince of achieved skills can be done in warmup or as a finisher.

    Great vid. Just wanted to ask if im doing a push pulls legs split that's also hybrid how much skills should i be doing. right now im doing elevated pike pushups and planche leans for push, pull-ups an front lever rows for pull, and on leg day i practice the L sit. Thought on this?

    I realized my cali training is a journey. I am enjoying every moment of it. Getting infured, getting progress all that is an experience. Never rush, just enjoy it :)

    So, I've been training two skills for pushing days at the beginning and two skills for pulling days during the week. Now I understand why is taking me longer to recover.

    Wait, at 4:42, that's what I do, In a push day, I start with planche holds, then handstand push ups, then pseudo planche push ups, on the next push day, I do all of these again but instead of pseudo planche push ups I do dips. It's been working for me for the past few months.

    I have a multi-faceted question if anyone would be kind enough to point me in the right direction here.
    If centralizing mastering a skill is your goal, then how do you structure your weekly workout plan? For example, I'm trying to learn the front lever. Should I still do Push-pull-legs or should it become something like pull-legs-pull where one pull day is focused on skill work and the other on intensity. Would doing push exercises on another day minimize opportunity for improvement in the front lever? If this is true, if I workout usually workout 5 times a week and minimize push. How should I fill in the in-between workouts that would usually be push.

    I was guilty of doing this myself. Bit off more than I could chew when it came to skills. I’ve since stopped training for skills all together due to frustration and lack of progress.
    Now my training has changed completely. This is a great video

    So is it ok if I’m trying to train one pushing skill: planche, and 2 pulling skills: one arm pull up and front lever, or should I train only 2 or do something else entirely…?

    For me its not clear whether u mean two skills per muscle grow (e.g FL/one arm & Planche/HSPU) or two skills regardless the muscle group. Thx for the clarification 😊

      They mean two skills of opposing muscles. One skill for push one for pull. It makes sense because multiple pull or push skills would start interfering with eachother and u lose strength

    Currently working on building my basic pushing and pulling strength with Dips and Pushups while also doing L sit Skill, I'm thinking about training for muscle up but I have been focusing mostly in building basic strength, should I continue or just start skill training?

      You can start off with basics in skills too like planche leans on the floor , just do them at beginning of ur workout. As for muscle up I would honestly just master explosive pull-up and straight bar dip , if u have those 2 ull do it ez

    Is it better to do 2 pushing or 2 pulling skills at one time, or maybe 1 push 1 pull ?

      1 push and 1 pull because they target different muscles groups so you won’t get fatigue and the recovery will be more efficient

    My problem is that I don’t know how to do skills + basics without one deteriorating the other one, like should I do them on separate days? Advice pls!

      First, know what you are going to prioritise, if more skills than basics, then divided loads (intensity) over it example of a week, focused more on skills than basics: day 1 - planche (70% intensity) workout + push session, day 2 - rest (cause if you do a pull day, you are overloading the biceps,cuz of planche training), day 3 - front lever workout (70% intensity) + pull session, day 4 - rest, repeat. OR a week prioritising basics than skills: day 1 - planche workout (50% intensity) + push session, day 2 - rest, day 3 - front lever (50% intensity) + pull session, repeat. This are exampels adapt it to your conditions.

    Is it okay to train planche, front lever, and HSPU? I’m at tuck planche, one legged front lever, and facing wall assisted HSPU.

      Depends on the rest of ur program. I’d say the way ur doing it now is ok since ur at the wall which is mostly just strength training. It would start interfering if you did planche and freestanding hspu because almost all the muscles used are similar to planche and will fatigue

      @@sykes_sw optimal for your standards maybe. But not optimal from a “how do I learn this skill the quickest and most efficient” standpoint. The two, wether u like it or not, will interfere and hinder progress speed , and ability to properly recover, if you do them in the same workout.

    Nah I'll never be able to hit a handstand. Been trying for years but after so many wrist injuries it's genuinely not possible

      Try parallettes, they keep your wrist neutral, or elevating the palm of your hand so there is less pressure

    Hmmm.. you lost me. What are skills? Dont they include dips, pullups, pushup? I thought people who train calisthenics primarily do these, but youre saying to not do more than 3?

      Nah, skills are movements that take weeks, months, or even years to work up to. Also you use progressions to build up to them instead of doing the movement itself immediately. The exercises you listed you could just jump into and go for reps right away.

      @@HappytreeLuis Okay, that makes more sense. He mentioned dips as one of his 3 exercises which is what got me super confused. I guess if you can do it for reps you shouldn't consider it then.

      Skills: L-sit, L-sit, planche, front/back lever, muscle up
      Handstand/Handstand push up
      Those are skills that require lots of pushups dips and pull ups to build adequate strength to achieve the skills
