You could really tell how much Mike added to the band when Wolfgang replaced him on bass. Wolf is a hell of a musician, but the vocals just sounded empty without Mike's backup.

It's that whole 'Technician vs Performer' debate. Eddie was hard on the Technician side while Diamond Dave was hard on the Performer side, Sammy was somewhere in between the two, probably leaning more towards Performer, if you watch his solo work.

Agreed. Think of all the great music we could've gotten after Balance if the band could've kept it together. More Sammy albums would've been my preference rather than a Dave reunion.

I intend no disrespect to anybody. Van Halen's first album came out when I was about 11. When David Lee Roth hits that insanely high note on "ACROSS the room," on "Dance the Night Away" on VHII, you can't beat that. But even though he's younger, his vocal range hasn't been as good as Sammy's as they've gotten older.
DLR was never known to have much of a vocal range. But he fit. Until he didn't. He saw VH going in a direction he didn't want to go and honestly he couldn't go.

It seems like Van Halen as a whole was a lot happier with Hagar as their frontman. I know a lot of people prefer Roth but I think that's only because he was the original and with him Van Halen had many great songs, which started their career. But me, I prefer Hagar because I just think he has a better voice, then and now. And there was much less drama with him in the band.

This is great, I love it! Alex drumming, Anthony bass, pushes this song done live to a higher level than I've ever heard before. Take some time to listen to the bottom end of Alex's drumming, and Anthony bass, amazing, these guys were on fire here! Sammy & Eddie too :)
Too young, missed Roth. (Another Discussion) This was the tour I saw at the Civic Auditorium in Omaha. It was an amazing show! He can sing, and play, and he way on a truss over the audience for like 20 minutes of the show!

You can't drive 55 in Japan, because all the roads there are constantly congested. They don't have free roads like America and Europe. You are lucky to drive 45 most of the time in Japan.

VH's loss. If there were two concerts in town on the same night, Sam and Mike on one end, VH on the other...I'd go see Sam and Mike...and I bet a lot of others would too.
If it it took 2 hours at 65mph that's 130 miles. It would only take about 22 minutes longer at 55mph. Certainly not all day. Obviously, he wasn't doing the speed limit before it changed to 55, anyway. 16 hours at 55mph is only 2.5 hours longer than what it would have been at 65mph. That being said, a great song and great version of it.

It's literally because VH matured over Dave's first 6 albums. Eddie wasn't the rock star living guy that Dave was. He was about music and after 6 albums and over 10yrs together he needed the break from that. Hell Dave kept down that road where Eddie and Sammy although still rocking and partying matured musically. Sammy did some of his best work with VH. I still am team Dave VH, but loved me some Solo Sammy a little more than VH Sammy

Kinda shows where each guy decided to develop.. Roth was good in the beginning for the songs but, focused more on the show and left the vocal behind. As a result, sammy is nowhere near the showman but, 6x the vocalist..
Clashing egos. Even though they performed a few of Hagar's classics, Eddie insisted on being the writer for the instrument side of all Van Halen songs. Sammy likes writing songs and wasn't going to stop doing it and he wanted to record the songs he wrote. He was perfectly willing to keep putting out solo albums with the stuff he wrote, but Eddie insisted that Van Halen wasn't a part time gig and if Sammy wanted to be in the band then no solo projects were allowed.

Elton Cannon what the heck is your problem? Dave can sing plenty well. He can probably sing a whole heck of a lot better than you. Sammy may be better than Dave but Dave can still sing otherwise van Halen wouldn't be so popular. Because Dave has been singing so long his voice has gotten weaker so maybe you should know all the facts before you judge.
I think the host of it all boils down to Sammy being a pro...I think van halen is full of pros from the get but dlr exception or he just faded,Micheal Anthony not spoke about much a real pro...they were middle of the to sad enough that pop fans and rock fans and heavy music guys all had something ...Sammy is actually best solo but for vh they're best with him
