Really useful, but how did you get round the 1 month limit on the free trial for iot core on Tuya? Mine has just ended and kicked me out, so I can't link my cameras to Home Assistant now.
Unfortunately, I was lucky that I got 12 months when creating account. You can try and extend it not sure if you need to send email to them or it can be done via UI, but people did get it extended for free.
@@BeardedTinker umm. I see that there is the ability to set motion detection on or off and change motion detection sensitivity but the motion sensor itself is unavailable. I can't trigger automations based on motion sensor in HA. Can you?
You are right, I was wrong! I looked over entity list and there is Motion Alarm switch. Thought it was used instead of binary_sensor to show state. Also, camera.entity doesn't change from idle when motion is triggered. It has only idle/recording state. So your question was good - looks like motion sensor is not exposed!
So I just got this camera and put it in the switchbot app and then deleted it from it because I found your video. I added it to the two-year app and I added the two yet integration to home assistant and my camera was already discovered and found and already in there without having to do all that extra stuff with tokens and IDs. The problem is my camera won't show the live stream on home assistant. Do you know anything about this?
@@BeardedTinker It was just a black screen but I did some research and found a integration called WebRTC and has something to do with go2RTC and then I installed it and followed the instructions. It only used two YAML lines of code and now I can see it perfectly
Just got myself 2 switchbot curtains last week, easy to setup ! & thanks for upskilling us with #SWITCHBOT and home assistant integration :) BTW I live in the UK! will I be considered EU ? lol (😉)
Thanks for the video and useful review! I was considering getting #SWITCHBOT motion sensor...do you have any expericences with heir motion sensors and contact sensors? Keep up the good work, Andrej!
Unfortunately no - didn't try. But from what I've seen they are really good and with extra button on it that can trigger anything - they are really good choice! Really should try one!
I love how swittchbot are reaching out. Unfortunately I am in Australia, so I can't join the giveaway, but when the camera's are available here I will grab one to look at :)
Same here. I can get a static image from the camera, and if I refresh the dashboard it will update the static image. But haven't worked out how to get it to stream. Anyone else work out how to do this?
Plus, in my case, it always returns low-quality video streams, and there is no way to switch to a HD stream. I've asked Tuya's development team, and they replied that it's a work in progress with no estimated release time.
This video came out in the wright time, I've just got the same Camera same day only a few hours before this video arrived and it is made my life more easy. Thank you very much you shared your knowledges to us. Big thumb up! #switchbot
Love your stuff! I was surprised to see you also do 3D printing videos. I've been trying to combine my 3D printer with Home Assistant in some way lately. Maybe show what layer is currently being printed on the Dashboard or something. #SWITCHBOT
Thank you Obi! I've tested SwitchBot Indoor cam and it works nicely as 3D printer camera! I do have also RPi camera that I use for timelapse - both are inside HA UI.
great video ,we love your video style,I am eva from Moes which produce and sell the smart product for whole smart house for many years,do you have any idea about cooperate with us to be a product review?waiting to your feedback
I hope someone can tell me what went wrong when I tried this. I created a Tuya account in the app and connected the camera, no problem. I then went to log in to Tuya IoT website, login from app didn't work (I use a password manager, so it was exactly as typed in app and I visually checked this too, the password entered was the correct one from the app) so I created a new account for Tuya IoT, fine that worked. I created the cloud project as you showed, but then connecting the app 0 (zero) devices were added. Tuya IoT page suggested something called Smart Industry App, so I went ahead and installed that. NONE of the Tuya logins work on that! Why does this have to be so difficult? Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to offer.
You could try and follow the steps from video and create new cloud project. Also make sure the data center is same as region you are using in your app. Also what app did you use? I think Tuya is ending support for other apps.
@@BeardedTinker Thanks so much for replying. I tried created another cloud project but still could not get it to see the camera that is visible in the app. Unfortunately I am unable to find out which server region the Tuya Smart app has connected to anywhere in the settings so I am closing the account and I'll create a new one. Hopefully I will see in the setup which server it connects to. It's just a shame it takes Tuya seven days to delete an account. Once I can get started again in a weeks time, I will update you. Thanks again for replying with assistance.
Quick update: Tuya IoT support got back to me about the message I sent them yesterday, with a very unhelpful response of "The app is not the same as the IoT platform, contact app support"!! Clearly paying no attention to the long explanation of what I was trying to do or looking at the time linked part of your video that I sent them. This is why I turn to the community, who want to help, rather that support who are payed to get rid of you as quickly as possible...
@@BeardedTinker Problem solved! After speaking to a contact who had a similar problem it has been resolved. It seems that in my haste to set it up I missed the bit that says that the UK is in Central Europe for the database purposes, and in my rush had selected Western Europe instead. Having set it to Central Europe, I now have access to my devices! Thank you so much again for your response, and for another great video!
Super video! I have two switchbot bot in my raspberry pi without hub and I am very happy with it. One for a coffee machine and another for a wireless little fan #SWITCHBOT
I’m following #SWITCHBOT also on twitter for some time already, but I didn’t know they have cams… Hopefully they’ll implement RTSP to cams so we can use them in #FrigateNVR.
Great video as always. As a beginner in Home Assistant tinkering, and with a small baby, I would like to have a camera and to follow your steps to integrate it to HA and start more monitoring. Also I would save you some money for shipping as it would be local to Croatia. #SWITCHBOT

Wow, Switchbot camera were actually Tuya compatible! Thank you so much, I could finally use the 2 Switchbot cameras I had
Glad you got it working!!!
Awesome! Were you also able to expose the camera's motion sensor to Home Assistant?
Yes, of course - all entities from the device are pulled including state of motion detection.
