Great questions Marty about starting pitching. Aside from a huge hole at catching, starting pitching is going to be the Achilles heel of this team I'm afraid.
The fact the Padres couldn't even match an offer that the Texas rangers made to our starting catcher, doesn't say much about the quality of players they plan to bring in. The Padres have become a low budget team, who only have a few major players simply because they can't get out from under some bad contracts like X, which is just KILLING this franchise. They have to find any way possible to rid themselves of this contract no matter how bad it might hurt. I think the future of this organization depends on it. AJ should call his buddies at Pittsburgh and try and pry loose Endy Rodriguez for catching.
Yu is a company mam. He hit his money and bag so he’s good. They all are. You won’t see any of them restructuring their contracts or deferring money. They are not that type of player or competitor. AJ and Kutspenda say every chance they get their job is to win the WS. But they just keep on failing and it’s okay because they only care about putting butts in seats and raising prices. Peter Seidler is missed more and more. Compete for Pete doesn’t have meaning anymore. It is what it is. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I hope the Padres get roki, their need for him is obvious. They are already short on starting pitching. My only thing is, why would he want to come here? The Padres look like they're scrambling just to try and put a competitive roster together with their financial issues. They really have no money to spend to replace the players who have left let alone keep the ones they have. Why would you want to come here with this major issue hanging over the Padres head when you can play for a dodger team that just won a championship and is loading up to go after it again in 2025. To me the decision would be obvious, It would be the Dodgers, UNFORTUNATELY.
