This is a fabulous deck and yes, it should be 79 or earlier... Type IV was invented in 79 and widely adopted by all manufacturers (for new models) by 1980.
Great video, I am a Realistic fan and have several RS tape decks. I recently purchased an SCT-3100 and it needs some love, would you happen to have any service info on that one, its the model up from the 3000 and what I can see its identical and just supports ferrochrome tape. Thanks
I own a Realistic SCT-33, which is almost a clone of the Hitachi D-E65, save for the Dolby C button. Not sure who made this model but it could be them? The transport looks similar.
Realistic products at the time were usually custom made. It could very well be a Hitachi. But there's no identical or nearly identical deck in the 1979 or 80 Hitachi line up. This deck was introduced in the fall of '79.
Where are you located? Do you have a commercial shop? Do you work on these for a living or as a hobby? Can I send you one for repair? The large belt on mine is basicly melted. How do I go about contacting you? I can send a video of what is at least one of the issues.
Old school Radio Shack was on another level

Would be interesting to get ahold of some early Metal tapes and test them on the equipment from that time.

Back when radio shack actually sold radios.
I remember buying many products from radio shack back in the ‘90s.
Came out in 1980?
Sold for 579.00 new which was crazy money back then!

I think Hitachi made these decks for Radio Shack. They have the same look.
You are probably right!
Hitachi made this one and several others for RS.
Very good to know. Thank you for your valuable input!
I need that deck to go with my realistic stack.
I’m sure you can find one on eBay or auction sites like Audiogon or US Audio Mart
Hi it's a great hifi deck..not made like it anymore 👍

I wouldn’t be surprised if Hitachi was the OEM manufacturer for some of the Realistic Decks. Some of them also look like Denon Decks
