- Challenger 350 landing runway 19 at Teterboro Airport (KTEB) Teterboro, NJ. Shot in 1080p/60fps 'medium' FOV mode using a suction cup mounted GoPro Hero5 Black. After a long flight with continuous light to moderate turbulence and the usual low altitude turbulence on the JAIKE3 arrival over hilly portions of northern NJ, we had one last treat in store: landing runway 19 with variable 270º - 350º winds gusting to 23 knots. In these quartering tailwind conditions your'e essentially being blown down the runway and off the side of the runway at the same time. On one hand, adding 15 to 20 knots to your ground speed really eats up runway and increases your landing distance. On the other hand, landing with turbulence and low level wind shear requires carrying extra speed for controllability and a safe margin above stalling speed. Kind of a performance conundrum actually. As always, I'm thankful the Challenger 350 has such great TRs and brakes. Fantastic machine!!!
I enjoyed your video very much, Larry! Way back in 1981 I took my very 1st flight lesson here. In 2017 I took my 2nd flight lesson ( a Christmas gift from my wife) at Essex County Airport. Thanks for posting!
Thx! I grew up in NJ right near Teterboro in East Paterson (now Elmwood Park) and used to go there as well as Totowa, Caldwell, and Lincoln Park to watch airplanes. Busy place to learn to fly!!!
i have been sittting around my laptop here viewing all the lovely air craft interior designs , great hostess aswell , very outspoken .. you pilots are amazeing , i watched all your landing , your incredible ..you all did an outstanding job ..
Thanks for watching!
Btw Larry.. I read your magazine interview and it’s was inspiring. Changed my life. One day I will tell you my testimony.
Wish I had my own magazine!?!?!?
AWESOME LANDING !!!!!!
Thanks for the complimentary comment!
Thanks for the video. I look forward to landing at KTEB one day.
Fun airport to fly into and out of!. Been in and out of there at least 100 times and it's always entertaining. Lots of bizet traffic and even more crisscrossing airline traffic for JFK, LGA, and EWR, HPN, etc., etc.. The arrival and departure procedures are some of the most frequently screwed up by unfamiliar pilots and the NY controllers talk a mile a minute and don't tolerate missed calls or failure to follow their instructions. In other words: a complex, fast paced flight environment that requires preplanning, procedural familiarization, good eyes and ears, and minimal distractions. You'll enjoy it! 👍 Where would you be flying in from?
SUPER LANDING
Thanks for the compliment!
Phenomenal ****
Don't think I've ever done anything else in my life that would be classified as 'phenomenal', so thanks for that!!!
Hi Larry... you made a mistake. You didn’t go to Meridian!
Haha! Yes, Meridian is a nice facility. We like Signature East since the ramp is much less congested and it's a quick taxi to 24. We had a compressor stall at TEB right at Vr last weekend and had to use Jet Aviation since we're a base customer at PBI and they were the only FBO with a hangar available to remove our #1 and install a loaner.🤨
I hear you brother... I was joking:-). Look me up next time in TEB although biz has been very slow. Hopefully you’re flying. Stay safe out there.
Does the Challenger 350 have an autothrottle? I've always had this doubt..
No autothrottle in the 300 or 350. There's talk of adding it to future versions though.
@@larrysmith1851No AT for a 20 million dollar jet? Can FADEC hold speed during cruise? Is it fully coupled during descent?
Blazingspitfire There’s a feature called ‘Mach Hold’ that works with FADEC to maintain selected Mach (within limits) during cruise. All other times I’m on the throttles. After flying this airplane for more than 3.5 years, you develop a sense for what power settings work in cruise or descent. During climb we just set climb power and pitch for target climb speed (280 KIAS to FL300, 270 KIAS to FL360, and .80 Mach above FL360). Works for me! Remember to be sure you’re watching theses vids in at least 1080p!
@@larrysmith1851 Thanks for the reply, would you be able to use VNAV down a "descent via " clearance or you have to use Vertical speed mode all the way down the arrival?
@@Blazingspitfire that is certainly a good question
have a great day y'all ..
There used to be an air traffic controller in Washington's Air Route Traffic Control Center (ARTCC) airspace who would always finishing handing you off to the next controller by saying "y'all have a nice rest of the day". Thanks for reminding of that!
doesnt look like much of a flare . fly it down to the surface eh .. nice video
Hey CraigBMM - thanks for watching! Yup - she lands a bit flat compared to other jets I've flown. Just make Vref over the numbers and lightly pull back just before touchdown and you'll roll it on. Pull back ore than that and she'll float a bit then drop in less gracefully.
Slam on da brakes make a quick left?😮😄😄😄😄😄👍😉
A quick left off at taxiway Q would have been and awesome achievement - especially with the 770' displaced threshold and quartering tailwind gusting 20kts + 😳😄!!! Pretty common at TEB to land with some tailwind component on 19. NY literally has to turn around arrival ops at JFK, EWR, and LGA to cause TEB to switch to 6 or 6 circle 1. What a crazy place! That being said - I'd rather be in a Challenger 350 than any other business jet when landing in any conditions. Best TRs ever! Thanks for watching 👍
