    Just one important nugget. I replaced my igniter and before putting the oven back together and the door back on I thought I would turn on the oven to see if it would would work and it didn't. After swearing for a bit I suspected perhaps there is some sort of safety cutoff that prohibits the oven from working with the door off. I replaced the door and it fired right up.
    After posting this I read comments below and see others mentioned this as well. Guess I should have read comments before attempting this.

    This sight was a great find! Thank you for posting. I would like to encourage all other Bosch oven owners to call Bosch and register the problem. I did and asked if they had a recall or had received other complaints. They denied they had and did register it. I tried calling to order a Bosch ignitor and was on hold for over an hour. So I clicked on your link and ordered the Electrolux ignitor. I'm super stoked. My son is here now and going to install! Wish me luck. I will give you a report afterwards. Also if this works will donate using the "applaud" link. My local repair shop wasn't going to be able to get out for at least 2 weeks as their service tech had been off ill for 2 weeks (COVID obviously). Plus they were going to make 2 trips. One to diagnose and the other to repair. $$$$$$$$$

      Okay update as promised. This is important! My range model is probably a little newer. HG18054UC/07. So you MUST PUT OVEN DOOR BACK ON FOR OVEN IGNITOR TO WORK!!! My son repaired it with the Electrolux ignitor as in the video however it wouldn't ignite till panel and door replaced. This must be a safety feature they've installed on newer models! Thank you so much- this was such a great informative as well as instructional video! This happened during both Thanksgiving and Christmas baking! It then did not work at all. We called Bosch and they wanted to sell us an extended warranty which would mean $$$ just to get the warranty and then more $$$ because they charge just for someone to come out and look at it. We can’t believe it because it’s literally only been 1 year since we bought it. We noticed in the video that it’s the same model.

    Thanks so much for this! Bosch oven works perfectly now and probably saved me over $300 by doing it myself. I will say that unlike the video, my ignitor did not heat up (nor did the broiler ignitor) until I replaced the floor housing and door. I suspect that this might be a safety mechanism that Bosch created. My unit Is 6 years old model: # HGI8054UC

  • @mv4919
    @mv4919 3 года назад +4

    Great video. Saving a whole lot is so true. VERY IMPORTANT!!!!!!!! to mention that you used either PORCELAIN or CERAMIC wire nuts to connect the spliced wires. Those are heat resistant to 1000 degrees F. Also, you appropriately DID NOT cover them with regular electrical tape. Black tape would melt at 200 degrees F, and cause big problems. If you get a good connection, there's no need to tape. IF you feel the need to use tape (or join with crimps, by twisting, or heat sealing), YOU MUST USE heat resistant glass or other specialized tape to cover the join. What comes next are several observations on 'support-repair-services-and-official-Bosch-replacement-parts' NEWER Bosch models. Read as necessary. Sorry or the length. ::::::: INSTALLATION HASSLES AND SMOKE/FIRE COMMENT: Bosch has made replacing the igniter MUCH MORE DIFFICULT IN RECENT YEARS by shortening the wires between the igniter and connection, + adding a 2nd (largely unnecessary) box through which the wires travel to the connector. IN NEWER (post 2012-14) Bosch Gas ranges, THERE IS A SMALL, PROTECTIVE BOX BEHIND the 1st layer of firewall. It is almost impossible to get even the smallest plastic wire nut through the tiny (3/8" sq) hole in this box to fully protect the wire nuts. IF YOU JOIN WITH PLASTIC FIRE NUTS, they will not meet code and WILL ALMOST ASSUREDLY MELT -- even if pushed through the small round hole in the back of the oven). MELTING IN THIS ENCLOSED SPACE HAS A VERY HIGH POTENTIAL EITHER TO SMOKE OUT or START A FIRE inside the over AND (CRITICALLY) INSIDE THE BACK PANEL of the oven where ALL the wiring and circuitry resides. Even a small amount of smoke will kill the circuit board, a $250-$500 part ::::::: CHEAPER IGNITER COMMENT RE THICK, FIREPROOF WIRE JACKET: One other issue is that cheaper igniters (which I'm a fan of at 1/5 the cost) usually don't come with the added fireproof insulator cover that the factory part has. The easiest solutions, as far as I know, are: (A) do what you've done and make sure the wire goes behind the firewall; if doing this, I'd still prefer to pull the thick insulator cover forward and splice/join with ceramic nut BEHNID the insulator cover -- as far back toward the connector as possible (difficult on newer model ovens as the connector is toward the back left corner of the over, behind the firewall. ** OR ** REPLACING AT THE CONNECTOR: The following all are based on unclicking the old wire at the actual connection (accessed from behind the oven), and clicking in the new wire to the existing female connector. It requires the added hassle of accessing the back of the oven's wiring + fishing the new igniter cable through the front to the back., BUT it provides you with fresh wire all the way to the source connector. THIS CAN HELP if it appears one of the old igniter wires is burned/shorted (much more common that one might think). The way to confirm this is to cut the bad igniter wires close to the igniter and inspect the wires for blackening. ALSO, one can check to old wires (as mentioned in this video) to see if 110V are coming through BOTH wires. ::::::::: PROCESS: (A) If the new connector you ordered already has the secondary thick wire insulation jacket, CONGRATUATIONS! Remove the back panel of the oven to expose the wiring, fish the new connector wiring through, and simply unplug the old connector / plug in the new (nale) connector; then install the igniter inside the oven. ( B) If the new igniter doesn't have the thick outer insulator jacket, remover the old jackets from the old igniter, (unfortunately) cut the new igniter wire about 2-3 inches from the female end of the connector plug, put the old thick insulator jacket over the longer ends of new wires, and splice them back together; the splices can be connected near the the female end of the plug with wrapped wire nuts (behind the firewall), with ceramic wire nuts (extra, extra safe), or by twisting the wires together and then using high-heat tape to cover the exposed wire; finally, pull the thick insulator jacket back over the wire, and install the new igniter by clicking the male end of the new wire connector into place and attaching the new igniter into place inside the oven. (C) Cut the new igniter wires up against the male plug found on the new igniter, put the old thick insulators over the new wires, then crimp on a new male plug; pull the thick insulation back into place and complete the installation by clicking in the new plug and attaching the new igniter. (D) Ignore the thick insulator wire and hope like hell the new insulator wire cover has enough heat resistance. ::::::: FINAL WORD: In my experience, the new wires will be ok UNLESS for frequently use the over at or above 424 degrees F OR if you run the self-cleaning cycle more than once every 2 or 3 years -- self cleaning mode. techs will tell you, is an igniter-killer, regardless of the installation method you use.

      Hmm. Slightly different than the oven you fixed. Our igneters spark, the burner sometimes lights. Is it me or do you get less reliability the more you pay for an oven? We were forced into Bosch for sizing because of the requirements of the corner it has to fit in (thanks, whoever designed this kitchen! Haha!). Our friends with pro-style ranges seem to have complaints. Thanks for the great tips and inspiration, though!

    Hi Scott we have a very similar if not the same model with the exact same problem. Thanks you for your excellent, super informative video. We just bought this house and this oven/kitchen was put in 2018. Why would the bake ignitor go out after just two years? Is this something we should be worried about or have professionally checked out or just change out the ignitor and see what happens? The broil top inner ignitor work and the stove top both work there is also a click when I turn it on. Thanks for all you do!

    • @QuickAndEasy5MinuteAppliance
      @QuickAndEasy5MinuteAppliance  4 года назад

      Hi Clara,
      I would just replace the bake igniters.
      They’re fairly cheap and easy to install but the reason they may be burning out early is due to a hole located near the igniter in the burner tube that’s leading too much heat touch the igniter shortening its lifespan.
      The way to correct it is to install new burner tubes or you can just replace the igniter every couple of years.

    I wasn't able to pull the ignitor out after unscrewing it. I pulled it about 1 - 1/2 inches and it refused to budge. I was afraid to pull really hard in case something would get damaged or dislocated. The oven model is HGIP054UC. If you can pull the stove away from the wall it is much easier to make the connections as the gas valve and control box are right out in the open. When I replaced my igniter I just mounted the new one, fed the wires through the hole, and made the connections in the back away from the oven heat. My old igniter also had ceramic sleaves aver the wires which I simply slid over the wires on the new one before connecting. Doing it this way could probably be done without removing the door which can be a real challenge to reinstall.

      I had to take the sleeves off and reverse them to be closest to the igniter. Made stripping the old wires much, much easier.

    Hey yall. So my oven does heat up.... but it won't heat up all the way. It'll heat to like 275° but not up to 450° or anything.... would this be the same fix??

      Hey Max,
      I would suspect that the convention round element that lives near the back of your oven needs to be replaced.

    Great video, easy replacement but after turning the oven back on and baking, the ignitor isn't turning orange at all. Any tips?

      if it doesnt glow before the replacement does this mean the igniter isn't the problem?@@QuickAndEasy5MinuteAppliance

    Hmm what do you mean by "won't heat"? If I turn mine onto 450 an hour later it's still at 150 or so. So it's turning on but not heating up properly. Is this just a fix for not igniting?

    3 questions (I ordered an ignitor which will be delivered tomorrow): 1. How do you manage to get the oven door off? It looked so easy in the video but I tried moving the joints like he did in the video & it wouldn't budge. 2. My oven electrical cord is easily accessible in the cupboard behind. Do I need to shut off the gas too? It looks like I have the exact Bosch model shown in the video. 3. Do I need a right angle drill or can I manage with a short screwdriver to navigate the angle? I'm fine buying the drill if I need to. Hoping someone answers because my daughter ususally spends Thanksgivning (6 days from now) with her dad, she's coming here this year & I just realized my oven wasn't working though the range & broil work fine, I can't get a repairman at this late date.

      Hi Patti,
      You don’t need to shut off the gas. It’s ok to leave the oven door on. Can you try loosening those screws with your screwdriver? I think they’ll come off. I’ve done this procedure many times with the door still attached. You might want to put a drop of oil on the screw threads to make it easier for the screws to come out👍

      I think one of the igniter wires is touching the metal frame and causing the igniter to always glow.
