baldur's gate 3 has proven that you can check off inclusion boxes and still make a damn good game. you do realize that these things are not mutually exclusive, yes?
I mean, Team Ninja decided to make Williams Adams the main protagonist in 2017's Nioh and I didn't see you making a stink about "inclusion bad" back then.
      how come?
I sincerely hope you have more self awareness to try and argue that inclusion isn't bad if its for the sake of white people and only problematic if its for the sake of black people.
the best decision of course would be to simply shut up and not try to argue at all since you already indirectly outed yourself as a hypocrite with double standards.
by the way: take it from a guy who plays a fuckton of samurai games because he loves samurai a lot (which is me): samurai games with a japanese protagonist are as common as sand in a desert. samurai games with a white or black protagonist like William Adams or Yasuke are a rarity and something new, fresh, different and there's nothing wrong with any of that.
if you don't want to play a game like that, there's plenty of other options for you to choose from.
just stop this bullshit about "inclusion bad" okay?

Yasuke on the other hand hasn't been featured quite as extensively as of yet so I think it's nice seeing him being given a moment in the spotlight.
As for William, Nioh is about his journey into becoming a samurai, which he is by the end. several characters refer to him as samurai over the course of the game, Nioh 2 features a mission titled "The Blue-eyed samurai" in which your custom character gets to meet William and Team Ninja's latest game Rise of the Ronin features a hidden boss fight against a character titled "Blue-eyed samurai" which drops a couple of items from the Nioh games as an easter egg for you to collect, including the armor worn by Yasuke in both Nioh games.

What proves Yasuke was a samurai is not that he received a samurai stipend, but that he received a samurai stipend and carried Nobunaga's weapons which was usually the job of a koshō and koshō were samurai and had and fought with a katana at Nijō and he was mobilized and followed Nobunaga on the Takeda campaign of 1582 and remained by Nobunaga's side even after Nobunaga dismissed all his "ordinary soldiers".

@@nathanscott2871 storytelling has never been Assassin's Creed/Ubisoft's strong suit, let's be honest real.
people remember Assassin's Creed for its characters but not so much for its plot.
      Besides
while a story can be nice and add to the experience, most people play games to have fun which means that a mediocre or bad story doesn't matter as much if the game itself is fun enough to play.
Gameplay is just much more important than story because on reaching new game plus, most players will make excessive use of the "skip cutscene" and "skip dialogue" functions, myself included. even in games whose story i like and love a lot like The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt.

    • @nathanscott2871
      @nathanscott2871 4 месяца назад +1

@@Timberwolftrass then this vocal minority is the people who wanted story. I also like when they put more effort into storytelling. So for me assassin's creed 1 and 2+brotherhood, unity, origins and sort of odyssey were my favourite.
Personally gameplay isn't the "main" reason I play games. I almost never play games online, too repetitive and boring for me. Take helldivers that was great fun for about 20 hrs then it was boring. Look at skyrim and fallout games with crap gameplay.
I dont know where you get "most" people. Maybe most people you know. People play games for a whole host of reasons, some for an immersive well crafted world, some play for freedom of expression (escapism to a world that isn't as shit as this one), some people play for story, some people play to kill an hour so they pick up CoD and play for 30 mins to an 1 hour a day. Some people play to explore the world that has been created, some people play for gameplay. Some play for characters (which i personally include in the story but i know people separate these). Everyone plays for a combination of reasons
So for example helldivers is a solid 6/10 for me. Elden ring was 7/10 for me. FF7 Rebirth was 10/10 Stellar Blade was 9.5/10 for me. Ghost of tsushima 9/10 sekiro 8/10. Returnal 9/10, Bloodborne 9/10. Mass effect trilogy 10/10. My all time favourite series is the "legend of heroes" series. One game of theirs has almost 2.5 million words roughly 25 full books worth of writing inside that one game.
So I understand why people are worried when ubisoft releases a game set in the medieval japan and focuses on a black guy and a girl. Because we don't know if they are doing this to tell a believable (with the aid of suspension of disbelief) engaging story or if it is purely thrown in their for some sort of recognition (tokenism is very common these days)
Because of the unnecessary focus on race, sexuality, gender etc. People now spend wayyyy too much time thinking about it and attributing things to it. This makes it hard to decipher reasonings behind things that happen.
Ps they shouldn't have revealed him as black. Should have kept him masked and silent. Only about a third of the way through does the mask comes off (maybe she removes it) then we find out why he has to hide his body. This would have been brilliant. And because they didn't draw attention to it people wouldn't be as quick to jump onto the pandering argument.

It's an RPG so you can pick multiple romance partners if you want to. That's what the article says, so if u want u can romance women, if u want u can romance men during your personal playthrough. If even having that as an option triggers you then you are a snowflake simple.

Its simple, people no longer know if it is diversity for storytelling reasons or because they are pandering to inclusivity at the cost of storytelling.
A lot of media has swapped storytelling for diversity which is why people are frustrated.
There is plenty of media that is diverse and has great stories that receive no backlash.
To relate to this video, the issue isnt yasuke, the issue is people dont trust that ubisoft are writing the story to tell an interesting story but instead to push a narrative based on race and gender and all that nonsense.
Personally i find it disappointing that yet again ubisoft are too afraid to make a compulsory female lead. Japan was the perfect setting for a female shinobi story.

I think you make great points here. As a person who don’t really mess with AC games, this one got me with the inclusion of Yasuke. I grew up watching a ton of samurai stuff and playing those games (I loved Way of the Samurai) but for some reason I never found Yasuke. I think Ubisoft has the potential of doing something really cool here. But I stress “potential”, I noted in the video that all this talk and such over Yasuke could mean nothing if the game is a 7/10 (which is how I feel about a lot of Ubisoft games). I understand your hesitance about diversity, but I am of the mind, the other side is a samurai story we had already. So if they wanna try something different sure. If it is trash then we can judge it after we play the game.

    • @nathanscott2871

@PressXtoStart that's exactly it! If they are actually trying to write a new perspective as the first black samurai and the challenges that arise from being the only black guy in the country, then it could be a fantastic story. The problem comes from if it isn't handled well and he was only introduced to be "the black guy" so that they can get digital backpats for being inclusive.
I think it would have been cooler to keep him masked for all the trailers and for about a third of the game then have him be unmasked by the female character and that's when you find out why he hides his identity.

I havent played AC since "Black Flag" and i dont give a F about this game BUT i do care that people are changing history about Yasuke. Realistically theres not enough of anything about yasuke. All we know is that he was a sword bearer/ retainer and they do not fight on battlefield, they wait back with the generals ON the battlefield. Now, the Kunoichi (female spy) is typically a spy for SHINOBI (male assassin). Honestly i think yasuke wouldve been welcomed more as an NPC that you later fight against when Oda loses his castle, since yasuke was his bodyguard that would make the most sense. Imo i think they shouldve just went with a ronin/assassin style Japanese character, this way both "wants" would be met.

  • @kdebo18

they are changing the history of AC in order to tell a story that no longer follows the originals AC story that was being told up until origin. they are also no longer caring about respecting the culture of whatever setting they are in at the time when they cant even use proper architecture like they used to back in the day. yasuke is just a nail on the coffin for long time fans since 2007 yes this is longer than waiting for the final season of Game of Thrones trash we got. the difference is we didnt have to pay 70 bucks (my bad 120 i f you want the full game!) for each season. we were teased the idea of fuedal japan since black flags and instead we play a samurai AND a ninja(i think most of us wanted to be an assassin ninja fighting against the corrupt samurai/ronin that are rebelling against the shogun. they cant do a hybrid samurai/ninja character because they would be copying Ghost of Tsushima. so many issues with the story itself. its not longer AC its WARRIOR CREED KILL everyone you want dont worry ubisoft no longer care about respecting the culture and architecture of their settings anymore and let the words FICTIONAL story allow them to destroy a game that was historical fiction vs fictional history.
