Groot 2285: Autocar WXLL McNeilus W/ Refurbished Original Curotto Can

Driving into Broadview, IL I would have never imagined stumbling upon this truck. After seeing this truck on Google Street View I knew it had to be filmed, however this video was filmed 35 miles east of where it was found on street view working in a different yard’s service area, so you can only imagine how surprised I was running into this one. This is an ex- Allied Waste unit that has been transferred all over more times than I can count while being in service at 3 different companies. It currently resides in the McCook, IL yard and I’m not entirely sure if it's a spare or daily runner. One of the things that stands out most to me is that this was painted up without the signature cream stripe. I speculate this is because when Groot won the municipal contract for Naperville, IL, Groot needed to repaint all the ex-Republic trucks and they had not gotten their fleet of LR Heil Curottos delivered yet, so this was their temporary solution to get these ready as fast as possible. The other thing I thought was especially cool was the refurbished older generation Curotto Can, which is definitely not very common at all. All in all I’m pretty stoked to have caught this, hope you all enjoy the video!

Wow, this is a throwback. this is a combination that WM ran in my area for years before they brought in the contenders. Fantastic work. I was also out filming on this day, it rained badly and I can imagine you got soaked
Haha yeah sure is, WM still runs these pretty far south and west of here still but there aren’t many left at all. It sure was a wet day too, I was out from about 7:30 till noon so needless to say I was soaked
Excellent video! Absolutely loved watching this truck! The WXLL really pairs up nicely with the McNeilus body and the older Curotto Can was definitely a nice touch too. The rain also made for a nice backdrop. Interesting how this truck doesn’t have the Groot stripe either. Awesome catch dude!

Nice work!! It’s really odd to see a truck without the stripe, but it looks cool at the same time. Definitely unique. Personally I like the older logo, and I like those older carts with the older logo on them, cool to see the Sierras mixed in though. Overall awesome video!!
Thank you! I definitely agree with you, it looks so much different but a good kind of different. I’m a big fan of the older logo too, it definitely looks a lot better on the carts in my opinion. Those Sierras a re pretty cool too, glad you enjoyed it!
That is really cool to see a 1.5 Curotto moving so quick! I always liked these buckets more than the CC2. They seem to hold just the right amount of trash so that they don't choke the hopper up when the driver dumps the bucket. Really is cool to see an old WXLL still running out there too. Driver ran the truck great, loved the quick lid flips. Awesome find!
I was definitely glad to see such a quick yet old Curotto too! I’m with you on that as well, this design seems to work a lot better so I’m pretty glad to see Groot keeping this one alive. Sure is refreshing to see a WXLL still kickin too, and this driver was pretty fun to watch behind the wheel. Glad you enjoyed the video!
Awesome video! Would love to see this truck again, hopefully you can track it down again. Driver had a great operation that was clean and smooth. Also loved the look of the older curotto in Groot colors. Fantastic work!

Nice video! This was my favorite truck from the compilation so i was extremely excited when this popped up in my feed! Also i really like the color without the stripe lol, it would be cool if they painted them all that way imo.
Thank you! This is was one of my favorites too, not to mention how unique it is especially for this area. I agree I think it would be a good idea for them to go without the stripe, but I don’t see that happening soon as they have in fact ordered new trucks with the stripe
