I did a summer Marine Tech course at Seahurst Park (in Burien, but part of Puget Sound, for those who don't know) in I think 2004 -- A VERY HOT SUMMER. They made us get out of a boat a bit of the way from shore and link together and swim back to shore. However, they stated that the water is so cold we'd get hypothermia if we didn't wear the dry suits they made us suit up in.

Yep. The Sound runs 43 to 53 degrees year round. I did my Scuba training some years ago in a thick wet suit, but below 30 feet or so the pressure compressed the foam so much that I'd get cold after a few minutes and have to go shallow. I finally paid the higher cost and got a good drysuit and insulating undersuit.

I remember going in the water at Golden Gardens and jumping out immediately. Strange seeing everyone at beach on the beach while the water is completely empty. Oh well, Florida or Hawaii.

These are the same folks who use outdoor grills indoors - please stop relegating the public to the lowest common denominator.

We don't have to be extreme with the water sporting this year then. Just take it easy and stay in shallow water. At least the salmon will be glad that their young will hopefully not get cooked in warm waters when they come back to lay eggs in the fall if this mild trend continues.
