@@matthewcostello8572All other beings the Egg tried to possess got twisted by it, and their own Anima rejected it, and their body became an abomination between the Egg's and their own Anima. Gus never had Anima... So he trained his body to accommodate for it... Making him the perfect host.

I'm so not sure about, they don't explain Fake Gustave's origin all that well. The Egg couldn't have taken his body from the Southern Fort, since it had been in possession of other people before Fake Gustave, namely Misty. Most likely the Egg had decided to replicate a legendary Hero to complete its mission, and chose the name Gustave for this.

@@Fl0wchart that actually makes sense, since the fake one had white hair so it was a walking corpse, maybe a remaster of this game could explain more

I'd like to think Gustave the 13th finally unleashed His anima in his final moments eliminating all beasts surrounding the fort.
