13:26 another thing that oshi no ko gets extremely accurate is how aqua has a trauma based panic attack, but also the lead up. That kind of heart drop moment, the aftermath of it building where he isnt sure /what to do/, and then the actual panic attack. even though this episode was a little hard for me to watch, afterwards i can really appreciate how well the scene is written. it is extremely accurate, which rarely ever happens in media
I remember in community theater one time when I was in high school, a girl was having trouble doing a crying scene and one of the cast members told her to pretend like her mom died. Little did she know, her father passed away earlier that year and she profusely apologized when she found out.
yet another instance of Akane piecing things together FREAKY fast. of course, she has no confirmation of whether or not she's right on her assumptions but yet again she is 100% dead-on her skills at tearing into people to understand them bottom-up is fucking terrifying
Akane is in some ways the most kindhearted person in the show, but I get the feeling if anyone ever truly made her angry, no one would ever find their body.
my takeaways: 1. His standards of good acting are Kana and Aqua and they just expressed how the new script is gonna be tough on them... seeing his two goalposts having doubts is definitely putting Melt on the verge of a.... meltdown 2. Kana dishing out the worst best advice was a plot twist I didn't expect to remind me that, yes, this is in fact, a murder mystery reincarnation anime XD
Kana: I want to roll to give Aqua advice to improve his acting *rolls natural 1* DM: Your advice ended up triggering his PTSD, and now he's suffering from a panic attack
Something like that happened in my dnd game last night, but instead my character attacked a quest board, got into an argument with another character, was shown that she's pathetic compared to shit out there, was unable to proscess anything going around her for a bit, then made up with the character in a display so tear inducing that snot was running down my face, my girlfriend who never cries shed a tear, and the DMs gave us both two insperation.
i don't know if you noticed when he was thinking about what made him happy the majority of them were Kana, add that to Aqua going back to her in season 1 when he wanted to confirm what his feelings for Akane were and you can deduce that Aqua has something for Kana
The manga does it with a series of three collages from earlier chapters (you can see the boundaries where there are shots of Aqua’s eyes), and Kana’s the only one who gets a whole collage to herself. The first is basically “Akane’s recovery” (including the parts involving the other LoveNow kids), and the third is the concert.
An amazing 2nd season and we are only on episode 4. -Literally most of season 1 didn't have the murder mystery aspect be in the forefront of the story. -The fact that all the happy memories that Aqua could even think about all happened within this year of his life is pretty depressing.
Now that you mention the length of the anime (and reading that you're aware there're gonna be 13 eps) it seems they're not gonna adapt just the 2.5D Play arc, but also the Private arc, and oh boy, none of you are ready for the ending of that arc. It's gonna be a crazy cliffhanger for Season 3 (which I hope they do).
Crazy thing about Aqua's subconscious berating himself for not protecting Ai is that he was 3 at the time. He wouldn't have even slowed the killer down.
21:44 that is such a direct foreshadowing to the current (and ultimate) manga story arc, I'm screaming internally the did plant that wayyyyy back when, holy sh*t
God, I have been looking forward to Kana stepping on that landmine in animation for SO LONG. And Akane’s deduction. A couple years ago, I decided to tally up character appearances in the manga up to that point, and it turned out that up to the flashback during rehearsal, more chapters had passed without Ai appearing than any point before. I like that - to me, it means Aqua had gotten so caught up in the process of trying to make this play good and dealing with all the obstacles being thrown at them (i.e., actually living his life) that he didn’t have time to dwell on the past and on his revenge quest, even if “investigating Ai’s time at LaLaLai” was theoretically the whole reason he was here. And then it all came crashing down. That bit where Raida says collaborations tend to produce something “striking” seems to be really hard to translate. The Japanese is “togatta” (literally sharp/pointed), and I’ve seen it translated as “extreme”, “edgy” (???), and “weird shit that would suck if not for one redeeming quality”. I guess you could also be a bit more liberal, not bother trying to describe the result itself, and just say “they tend to go crazy and get carried away”. Whatever the translation, I do like the twist that he wasn’t just worried about them not working together well, but also about them working together _too_ well.
Yeah I was feeling the same, season 2 has been fine so far, but not as exceptional as season 1. But then come the latter half of this episode and it got me so excited again, it's so dark and fucked and I love this series for being that. Also yeah I love Akane so much as well. The way she actually pieced together Aqua's situation (minus the reborn aspect, cause there's no way to reasonably intuit that) and is just so nice and supportive. I want to see her help Aqua back, if those two end up saving each other it would be so sweet.
I will say, with no spoilers, that the murder mystery thing will probably feel more or less this level of attached/detached all throughout the series. You could look at this episode's look into Aqua's mind as a metaphor for how that issue relates to the series: it is something that haunts the plot, not something the plot puts a spotlight on; it will appear and then disappear again, nowhere to be seen until it resurges once again. I'm mostly happy with the plot progression in the manga but I know not everyone will be happy with even the parts I'm happy with.
This arc is my favorite cus it explores some of Aqua trauma. Two of my favorite scenes are from stage-play arc. Reading those scenes in the manga made me feel things. I think anime adaptions take some of the power out of it because this is the second time a scene that felt powerful in the manga felt less powerful in the anime. But that could be because I knew what was going to happen. I'll have to reread to see if it's the anime or the fact I know what's coming.
Reminder that Kana doesn't know about Ai being their mother I think? Still, fucked up think to say to Aqua. Also, yeah intense way to bring up the trauma of episode 1, those flashback renders are fucking bonechilling on their own, let alone with the audio work and watching Aqua go through it like that...
Honestly..? There is zero downsides for Aqua to confide in Akane, like? At all, and her being fully looped in on atleast Ai's relation to him will only be helpful. In every way, mentally and in detective work Ite win win, and she has already clued herself mostly in. Now Aqua just needs to realize it, and not try to do something foolish about it and instead take the offered help.
I mean it might be better to leave out the part where his end goal and the only reason to continue living is to murder his father. She might not be on board with that.😅
@@sojtus8681 Hah, well yeah definitely! And possibly the reincarnation, but then... Im in favor of chatting with Ruby about that part, Aqua def discounted way to quick Ruby being a Reincarnate too! Now way he thought random regular children are like that as toddlers lol He saw normal children actually, so no excuse there!
Kana is awful and needs to stay away from Aqua. She's a bitch to his gf, constantly jealous, she triggers his ptsd, and when he has that reaction she makes it all about herself. Akane is so great. She legitimately cares about him. She's also clever enough to figure out very important things about him. I will always be of the opinion that Aqua being with anyone but Ruby is creepy af despite her being his twin. He met Kana when she was 5, she imprinted on him, and he is the reincarnation of a 30 yr old playboy doctor. Neither Kana nor Akane can fully consent to being with him because they don't know who he was. Imagine being a teenage girl and finding out the guy you like who you thought was your age was once a 30 year old doctor who played around and he remembers all of it. Also its not that Aqua and Goro are in any way different. Goro is just used as a neat manifestation of his trauma. Young Aqua has been used as well. Goro's reincarnation as Aqua is just a social hat. A role he has to play. One that he sometimes gets lost in. But he will always be Goro deep down. I highly recommend reading Spica to gain some perpective on Goro and what Ai meant to him. Its a very short read but very good. Also Ruby makes Aqua blush when he remembers her.
1. She knows it's a fake relationship and the bitchiness goes both ways. 2. She didn't know about it. Not really her fault. And the "makes it about her" part is because if this fake relationship didn't exist Akane wouldn't have that excuse to Look after him and as such Kanna would have tried to Look after him. As if Kanna doesn't care about him. All in all, sounds like you're just a hater.
Alright, let's dismantle this pile of garbage you just made.... 1) Kana is legitimately bitter about being unable to stay close to the guy she likes cuz he's keeping up a false relationship with Akane, her advice was the best thing anyone could have said in that moment since he was in dire need of that, her reaction to him falling was "Aqua!?" and after that she felt bitter at how Akane was allowed to go after him only due to her false gf status (simply put, she's frustrated she can't run to his side, i'm sure you have never unreasonably felt bitter about something? you must be a saint unlike us imperfect humans). 2) Yes, Akane is a good person, she's incredibly smart and cares about Aqua (to the point of harming herself), this might be your only good point. 3) Aqua being with Ruby after living as her brother for 17 years is the creepiest sh*t ever, you have problems. He is a kid who inherited the memories of a 30y old doctor, he grew up going through infancy and puberty again and those changes to his body made him change as a person, his current mental age is not 47 but somewhere in-between 17 and 30..mostly leaning towards 17. 4) Goro and Aqua are different, Goro is dead and all that remains of him are the memories...Aqua is "Aqua + Goro's memories" he will always be more than Goro alone because he's lived a whole new life for 17 years already. 5) Ruby doesn't make him blush, he's smiling in happiness by the aggregation of all those 3 segments of memories...of which by the way, Kana is clearly prominent.

Not in the manga. The manga chapter ends on Akane’s line about “just a scenario I made up”.
