It doesn't just reveal weakpoints, in my experience the extra hits usually stun enemies long enough to do another C5 effectively stun locking most foes, and this is without full unseeing.
The C5 is really good, I used it to infinite stunlock a fire lynel which did a great job. Also, it shreds weak points if you stack another combo string on top of it
something cool to note is that sooga can use the ice kohga statue to really easily counter lynel breath/explosion attacks another thing not mentioned is that sooga can "reflect" guardian beams by countering them, he actually does a slash that cuts the beam in half and hits the guardian overall sooga became my favourite character in the game pretty much immediately, having the coolest special and weak point smashes in the game are a definite plus
Sooga’s play-style basically makes him the Ryoma of this game. Even though part of that is because they’re both samurai and wield similar weapons, it’s because they have a play-style of a fast swordsmen that acts like a heavy. Ryoma was one of my favorite characters to play as in Fire Emblem Warriors, and now Sooga is one of my favorites in Age of Calamity.
I really think Sooga is the best Duelist in the game if mastered. However, I play a lot in Apocalyptic mode, and with the amount of ranged attacks enemies are throwing at you, you almost never have full unforseen charge. I think Sooga weak point is dealing with crowds. You have to make sure there are no other enemies around who can bother you when fighting 1v1. Otherwise, Sooga is one of my favourite characters to play as. Lastly, these guides are amazing, I hope you'll keep them up in later games.
His combo 5 also reveals wpg’s. It’s much more reliable than his C6. I always loved perfect counter mechanics in games, which made sooga an instant main for me. He’s insanely strong once you master his playstyle
A good thing to know is that Sooga can literally counter everything. Projectiles, guardian beams, lynel explosions, everything. You can be punished during multiple hit projectiles though, like Ice Wizzrobes
Sooga: Where is your devotion? The fact that sooga prepared to sacrifice his life to save master kohga and goes toe-to-toe with the blights even after being injured makes his devotion to kohga THAT much, he also asks himself before his possible final moments, “Have I paid you now?............Master Kohga?”
Important things to note: - From my experience, it isn't simply _any_ damage that erases Sooga's Unseen Gauge, only from damage that causes him to flinch. I never took the time to notice, but it just seemed at completely random that some attacks that I was hit by didn't cause Sooga to flinch, letting him continue his combo as well as not dropping his Unseen Gauge. - The kunai from his first strong attack works wonders against the bomb barrel Moblins. Being Sooga's only ranged option besides bomb rune, it's great to have coverage against the explosive barrels they place down that will always launch Sooga if hit by them, causing his Unseen Gauge to drop. - I'm sure everyone who's played Sooga knows, however it wasn't mentioned here that his Unseen Counter stance has a substantially decreased active window for each stack of the Gauge acquired. Because of this, I personally just like to capitalize on the extra damage from having a full Gauge by ignoring the counter once it's full. Once the Gauge is full, the counter only lasts a fraction of a second (maybe even just a few frames), and I certainly can't time that well enough.
His fifth strong attack combo can reveal weak points on the second half of it, fun fact if timed correctly you can use this to infinitly bring down mutated ganons weak point
I was just thinking about ya and these vids, I really like sooga and kohga’s story, it makes me wish they were both alive in the main story cause I always would of loved to see them more
I think that Sooga is amazing to play as in Age of Calamity. I love his Unseeing Counterstance, as it is satisfying to pull off. Also, can you show us how to use Robbie and Purah to the fullest?
I feel it's noteworthy to mention that the final flurry of cuts at the end of his C3 happens no matter what, even if he dodgecancels out of the move. the same cannot be said about his C5 strangely enough. you need to wait until after he fully pus away his swords before the final flurry of cuts appear, even though he already slashed the air before then.
I haven’t played him yet, but the thought of a weakpoint revealing counter sounds like the perfect kind of devastating skill based character I could ask for especially for the higher difficulty content. Glad to see lots of options here
I don't know if anybody will ever believe me but when I 1st played Age of Calamity 2 days after Christmas the year that it came out as soon as I saw Sooga in the Urbosa mission I told my friend that had bought me the game, I want him in the game and when we got to the end I told him I was like darn. they didn't put him in the game I hope they bring him out later. As soon as I saw that they dropped him for the DLC part 2 I was dancing in the neighborhood on my way home.
One thing I would have liked is the max base damage for the Swords of Valiance so I could know how to get the most optimal set, but aside from that this is a really good video and really helped me understand my new main much better.
Sooga is one of my favorite characters to play. I'm currently in the process of upgrading his weapons. It seems as if DLC 2 made it bit harder to farm for good weapons, or maybe I'm doing something wrong.
One more thing about Sooga's tornado attack -- you can dash to cancel his animation, allowing you to follow up with whatever attack you want and absolutely shredding weak point gauges!
Ahhhh holy shit!!! I had gotten burnt out on this game after the first dlc but if they actually made the coolest character playable now i gotta get on that!
His C5 is extremely powerful, you can stunlock most enemies because it reveals the weakpoint gauge and damages it just enough to cause them to flinch. It's not perfect, eventually they'll use a move that will hit you before the flinch, but with the counter you can avoid this and keep going. Also, his C6 on a large group can fill up the special attack bars quick. Tbh while it is cool, the C6 just doesn't work nearly as well for me, it takes too long to force a flinch so I'll normally be knocked away before it can be finished. One of the best 1v1 characters, slow at clearing large groups and struggles with multiple bosses at the same time (although I could just be bad since I struggle with keeping track of multiple enemies at the same time anyway)
If you use Sooga against the Battle-Tested Guardian in the forgotten temple, and use his counterattack against its laser’s, it can dodge out of the way to avoid getting hit in the face.
for those wondering how to unlock sooga since warriors dojo didn't show how to unlock him unlike giant cucco(is that how it's said?) scroll down since some don't wanna see it you have to do defeat of the yiga clan without ANYONE AND I MEAN ANYONE dying for that one yiga behind the gate you have to rush till the shadows spawn then if no one dies sooga will ask to open the gate then you have to rush and help the blade master behind the gate that is now open
Sooga has become my favorite, mechanically speaking, but not my favorite from a pure 'Fun' angle. That actually comes from Purah and Robbie as they seem to be far better for one-on-one boss killing to brute force through attacks if you go full attack speed seals (Doesn't help that their first strong attack can hit Talus' weak points). Sooga, however, is the best for multi-on-one fights as his counter, if done in a mob, does stun multiple bosses (or it has for me, last I recall). He is the only one I entertain the Monster Den survival battle with as I actually have down time between killing the big boss monsters due to how quickly they can be handled. Still prefer max attack speed seals with just his auto-critical being the odd one out with the Hidden Seal Removal, but that's a personal preference. I like being able to build up to his higher end weakness gauge openers quicker as I am more hyper-aggressive with him.
Sooga has three good builds which are the ones listed here. Speed will always work but he's already quite fast so investing in regular attacks to use the counters or in strong attacks isn't bad by any means. I like how versatile he is.
You also forgot to mention that every time Sooga gets a charge on his unseeing gauge the timing for the counter becomes tighter, making it harder to time his counter if the unseeing gauge is full.
The moment I found out you could play as Sooga (a dream in the making), I instantly went for it. I'd say he's even cooler than Robbie and Purah (though that doesn't mean they aren't fun).
Maybe I'm just rusty, but I feel like I struggled a lot against multiple big enemies at once, like sometimes you counter the wrong attack and get smacked, losing your unseeing charges anyway.
My only problem is that his unique action has a lot more end lag and a tiny bit less active than I’d like (and that the unseen sigils all go away from one hit, I’d prefer one per hit, especially with how easy you could end up getting hit in this game)
Going by how his normal attacks are his strong suit, I think this might be one of the only times his Level 2 weapon is better for his playstyle than his level 3 weapons…
Personally, I like to pair Sooga and Guardian, because Guardian erases entire rooms of trash mobs. X>X>Y with Guardian to erase every Bokoblin in the room, then switch to Sooga whenever a Moblin or such rolls up.
