Let’s not forget this young man was mainly raised by grandparents. She was not there. Every child wants their mother’s love. Listen very carefully to what he said,”she chose fame”. Also, to see her engage in her other children s (plus a bonus child) life’s I know is heartbreaking for him. Please don’t overshadow his experiences and pain because his mother is Monique. Let’s all just pray for the both of them.

It is very difficult to assess a lifetime of parenting/childhood from a 10 minute clip, but I will say no one's life is picture perfect, Shalon needed a level of nurturing from his mom that she was not capable of giving at that time. He as a grown man still has deep wounds as a result of his moms choices. Sometimes I'm sorry will not do and we have to live with the outcome.

I’ve come to the realization that my mom was only the vessel for being born. We have no mother daughter relationship and I am fine with it. It took some time but I’m okay. My dad’s parents raised me from a year old baby. So I had a fantastic life. She and my dad went on to have 4 more children and she was the same with them. No relationship so it is what it is…

Children often have feelings of what was not or what was in childhood hood. I never heard that he was abused or neglected, I only hear differences. He will soon learn that it isn't easy to be a parent by any means, and parents often are learning themselves throughout the process of parenting. I hope they can both accept how each other loves and move on together or apart. You only get one mother and one father in a lifetime.
Unfortunately people still believe a lack of physical abuse somehow means “it wasn’t that bad”… abandonment is neglect by the way. No it’s not easy being a parent but it is easy to choose to be a present and engaged parent or not.(and that can look different for everybody) And let’s be clear the old school adage of “you only get one parent” is still true however when the parent you have is toxic to your mental and emotional well being it doesn’t matter how many you get, you have to choose a safe, happy, healthy life for yourself and sometimes that means leaving those parents behind. We have to stop pushing forward these old ideas of dealing with family it was not healthy then it is not healthy now. Choose your own peace people.

@@earthgoddessforever8731 I have 4 children and I have been a cardiologist for the last 20 years. That’s how I know first hand being present and engaged is a choice coming from someone who has an extremely demanding job, male dominated and not mother friendly at all. So yes I have successfully raised 3 boys and 1 girl who no matter what had present and engaged parents. Parenting is a choice. And how you choose to parent leaves an everlasting mark on your children, if that mark is negative then As a parent you have to be prepared to take responsibility for your part in that.
