I have 44 machines, with 4 "for sale" (additional!). I'm trying NOT to get more, but I got given an Olivetti Studio 46 and just could not resist a cheap Underwood 4 bank portable. My best tip : DO NOT open facebook marketplace. On saying that, if a whole typewriter is as cheap as a paperback or a couple of hamburgers, why not buy one and enjoy it? Like you, I love the SC 5 series, and also this year I have been getting into the Facit TP1 and TP2 machines. If you ever see one of those, I would recommend giving it a go. So many great machines to explore!

Sarah, great job this year in all that you’ve accomplished! I have 30-ish machines, my favorite from this past year being the Olivetti Studio 44 with the broken CR lever, I got for free.

I loved the zipper replacement video 🙌 it came out so very nice. This is a guess...but think I'm in the 80 range of fully working and refurbished machines. A dozen are in the 4 sale shelfs, and a dozen on the repair shelves. So adding all together we're looking at maybe 100...good Golly 😳

I got my first typewriter on December 23rd last year. Took a little database searching with a friend to figure it out but it’s an Olympia SM8 from 1971. Still have to do some more cleaning on the internals but it’s an incredible machine. The lady I bought it from said it was her mother’s for a long time but that she hadn’t used it in years so it feels nice to give the machine a new lease on life.

I only started this year and I've already given 1 (Coronet 12--Bettie) away. I currently have 7 in my room but 2 are not mine. I didn't expect to fall in love with a white Underwood 378 (Snow) but I did. An Underwood Portable 4 bank (Madrigal) was my first love. My clear Swintec prison typewriter (So Icy) feels like the only electric/electronic I will ever need. I also have a reliable Remington quiet-riter (Dank the Tank) who never lets me down, a 40s LC Smith super speed (Monty) who works surprisingly well and i journal on. A Remington Silent I adjusted and am giving to my aunt and my grandfather's corona flat top like u showed in this video im currently looking at ♡♡♡

Thank you for the fun update, Sarah! You've been so inspirational to me as I started my own typewriter adventure this year. I have 7 in my collection currently (3 Olympia, 3 Smith-Corona, 1 Royal). Five work beautifully, one needs a good clean, and the Royal needs lots of love and attention (one day!). I hope 2023 is the year I learn how to properly clean and fix some machines. 😃

And I just got a Olivetti ms 25 plus for $24 at a thrift store and an alpine blue smith corona 5te and a sea foam green 5te from fb marketplace. I hope to have a coral/pink 5te in the future if I can fine one!

Let's see two fully working typewriters a 1946 Smith Corona Silent and A 1938 Remington Deluxe Noiseless. One 1938 Royal KMM with a carriage that stick halfway through it's travel while typing but all the keys work. One none working Remington Noiseless early thirties I think. It has round black keys instead of glass ones. Then there is a Royal Heritage early 60s, little dirty but everything works. But it's missing a shift key, I would like to replace that missing key if I can find one. A 1990 electric Brothers GX 6750, the nosiest typewriter in the collection and a Cassette Electric 850 that was given to me. So like seven all collected this year. I seemed to be drawn to the earlier models. I like the looks of the glass keys!

Thank you for your video’s, they are very informative and it’s made me more confident in buying my first typewriter.
I am currently in the process of buying a 1950’s Rheinmetall typewriter, my dad had a chuckle because that very company now produces millitary equipment.
If you, or anybody else, have any good tips i could really use some, I’ve binge watched your video’s for a couple weeks now so I vaguely know the cleaning process and the different bits.
But not to worry, I will be extra careful with this peice of equipment, and I have some experience with antiques, such as my grandfathers 1920’s telephone, or my pocketwatches.

Great year-end video! I think the Consul is my favorite of your collection, also like your Royal 10 a lot. Maybe add a 1930s Remington Portable, they came in great two-tone color combinations and are easy to work on. I think I peaked at 92 machines and currently have around 85.

I'm still on the lookout for my first one. Typewriters under $100CAD are rare in my area (womp womp) and most go for $150-250 even if they don't work properly. I know when I eventually come across "the one" - it will be love at first sight AND within my budget.

Hello Sarah I have been watching your videos for quite a while now and have wanted a typewriter for a few years. Today I finally went to my local Goodwill and Found A Smith Corona manual typewriter. I was worried about it at first because all of the keys were seized and the carriage string was broken. My dad said it was a lost cause but I had hope. So I forced him to help me fix it and I did. $25 well spent. Just thought I'd let you know.

Also about 30... I want 2023 to be the year of rationalising the collection into focussing on ones I want to use, ones I like having, and ones to move on. I've got a dozen Empires (the UK-made Hermes clones) and although hardly any of them work properly, I like the aesthetic, and I want to learn how to fix them. That's my 'collecting for the sake of it' pile. I've got some Brothers that I think can go, I'm just not a fan. I'll be keeping some Olivettis (Lettera 22/32/35) but not others - and maybe some of the Olympias can go. I'd love to try a flat top, at least one of those curvy Smith Coronas, and if I had the space I'd love a Selectric but none of these are common or cheap over here (UK) so I might have to pass. I'd also like an Imperial Good Companion with glass & metal keys, and those crop up regularly here, it's just a matter of having the cash and justifying the spend. I've never tried a Royal or Remington either, so they're also on the list!
Sigh. Happy 2023 and all that
    😆
That box is a Barbie, isn't it...

Facebook marketplace is a good option if you can find one locally. Shopgoodwill has gotten more expensive over the last year, but there's usually some pretty beat up machines there. If you just need parts, there is a facebook group called Antique Typewriter Maintenance Group and lots of people buy, trade, and sell just parts there that match your specific machine- that way you don't have to go buy a whole parts machine
