    Many others have reviewed the SkyGuider Pro. This is not a review, it is a deep dive into the features of this impressive mount.

      Itai Alter, thank you for letting me know. That's why I created this channel. There were questions I still had after watching videos and reading as much as I could find. Regarding the focus: It is a good idea to try to focus during the day at something very far away, then at night it will be almost in focus. Or at least closer than if you just keep twisting and don't have any idea how close you are to focus. Clear skies!

    I liked your idea of using a C-clamp you had knocking around. I did something similar when I needed just that little bit more weight to balance my 72mm scope and camera. Doesn't look great, but I like looking through my setup, not at it. Thumbs up and clear skies.

    For a minute amount of extra weight, try using lead tape. It's readily available at Golf pro shops and is used to add weight to club heads. I keep a few strips in my case - and in my golf bag.

    • @universalobservations3299
      @universalobservations3299  2 года назад

      easy56wedge, thanks for the suggestion. This was more of an "emergency" issue, I was all set up, couldn't balance and was looking for anything that I could use to add weight. The "C" clamp fit all of my requirements, enough weight and something that wouldn't slip. I am an avid golfer, but have never carried lead tape in my bag. I wonder what others have used in an emergency????

    Also a tripod down tube at least one of mine can screw on the bottom of the counterweight bracket and the original counterweight shaft screws on to that to give you more weight capacity in a pinch.

      Bruce, thanks for watching. I ended up purchasing an extra counter weight and shaft extension.

    Very useful information, thanks! I noticed that sometimes the LED illumination wouldn't reach the markings inside the scope and had to do polar alignments "in the dark", a very frustrating endeavor :)

    • @universalobservations3299
      @universalobservations3299  4 года назад

      Have you tried rotating. Inside I think the polar scope tube only has an opening and you need to align that opening to the LED. Good Luck.

    I bought one of these a few weeks ago, and I struggled with it at first. I attached a 72mm scope, flattener and my dslr and tracked orion for 2 hours with good results. I also used Backyard EOS. I did 30-60 second subs at iso 200-1600.
    This is a great piece of equipment for the newbie like myself. I started with stock dslr lenses, then a rokinon 14mm, then my 72mm apo.
    Here is my result my first night out with my scope and a sky guider pro.

      Thanks. Great photo of Orion!
      I am thinking of creating a video that shows my progression of steps into astrophotography. Starting with simple DSLR and lens on a tripod (no tracker), to a better tripod, and the skyguider pro, then eventually a better camera, skyguider pro, and Zenithstar 61 and the improvements in the images as I stepped my way up

    Items no longer available.
    There is not a proper way. Ipotron mentions the changing of the declination bracket. But I did find to move the bracket to move the radical in and out of focus.

  • @raymonduherek9219

    Instead of adding another counterweight, Williams Optics has an extender to give you more counterweight without adding more overall weight. I just ordered one for $29.00.

    • @universalobservations3299
      @universalobservations3299  5 лет назад

      Frank, Thanks for the suggestion. I actually looked into the extension but decided to go with the extra weight. I think I read that it is easier on the mount if the mass of the counterweight is closer to the mount rather than farther away. Something about Moment of Inertia is squared as the distance away increases. While I have only 2 data points, the auto guiding seems to be better if the weights are closer.

    • @gtc1961
      @gtc1961 4 года назад

      The additional weight is cheaper though....

    • @universalobservations3299
      @universalobservations3299  4 года назад

      @@gtc1961 that is a great point. Currently the counterweight extension is about $30 (USD) and the Counterweight itself is only about $25 (USD). As I mentioned above, by moving everything closer, it seemed to track/guide MUCH better.

    How dies the polar alignment app know how your scope is aligned?

    • @universalobservations3299
      @universalobservations3299  4 года назад

      Robert, sorry, I just realized I didn't answer your question. The polar alignment app is just a visual aid. You can only use it to understand where to point when you visually look through the view finder of the polar scope. When I first started using the SkyGuider Pro, and I was first starting out, I thought you need to position Polaris in the center. NOPE!, that is why you use the app. It has to know your long/lat, and that will show you where to position Polaris "visually" in your polar scope. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!

      Caste2510, I reached out to iOptron support when mine got stuck and they emailed me back a link with instructions how to release the clutch.
