I have been out of fencing for a while, since the timing changed on the point has distance changed? It does seem like the fencers are fencing much closer these days.
ITA. I never really saw the point of trying to get rid of the flick in the first place. I remember thinking this is what would happen when I heard first heard about the timing changes way back (lots of twisting turning and ducking). If you watch videos of Marx or Golubitsky it's so much quicker and smoother. Oh well, I never got why they needed to ban the fleche and crossover in sabre so what do I know. At least the FIE wont (probably) feel the need to tinker with epee.
Oh yeah, I still enjoy watching it. I would love to buy a foil and give it a go again, but every foil I've ever bought breaks in two seconds....so I stick to table tennis now, quick tactical game and the equipment will last if you don't abuse it.
Well, to me it would seem that this is the best way either of them can get points. They both realize that the best chance they have of scoring the touche is probably not making a big distance as this would make it more difficult for anyone to ever win.
What any fencer really wants is to slow down the bout. Fast here probably would not have helped them where they were both trying to slow it down and be in as much control as possible
Wow, modern foil fencing is so stupid. I can't believe it looks like this. Gonna stick is to classical fencing with electrical equipment, i.e. stiffer blades and no flicks.
Can't stop watching this
I think this video was originally widescreen, and the aspect ratio got a screwed up and crunched together.
Italy: won gold, silver, and (one of the) bronze in individual competition of men's foil
Also Italy: didn't win even a medal in men's team foil
Aspromonte fenced so well, so many beautiful touche's

I love how David responds when Karim (is that Karim?) gets a call wrong.
Cassara probably thought his hit at 14:16 was in preparation, hence the challenge. He DID land the point before Aspromonte even began his blade action
Italians are so good looking.
Andrea is my idol
yayy

Cameraman has a crush on the coach
Epee is entirely perfect as it is.
why is Aspromonte wearing the white strip on his mask?
I could be wrong
fencing is my heart.
@Leokaz1 sometimes spotlight falls into the eyes
Where did the footwork go? They barely move around the piste.. didn't see any of that fast technical footwork we love in fencing.
Italian man every 10 seconds
6:55 not parry riposte, counterattack
upward flick from Aspromonte 10/10
imba!!
16:37 looks like he's flipping off the ref :3
You know cassara was going to win
Italians, Italians everywhere
wooo
*see him, sorry
Cassara is a clumsy fencer and aspremontie is agile
Th8
