Thank you! It's a tough one to do, I don't think I would be able to do it if my screams weren't naturally in that higher register. I can't do anything low so this and linkin park works best so I definitely know what you mean by having a different style.
@@shadvegasmusic Hey! Can you record a shot about this? I asking about explanation video when you show a your scream extract on more low melodies, maybe some good exercise to start doing like your excracting?
Thank you so much! It definitely gets tough when you get up that high so thanks for appreciating the hard work! I know this is unsolicited advice, but something that helps me is to just sing the melody on a la or something else that is easy, then slowly work in the consonants since those are what cause the notes to choke off. It "proves" to you that you CAN do it, you just gotta add the consonants back in, that tends to be my hurdle so I hope that helps out.
@@shadvegasmusicis that the same practice method with vocal fry as well? Start clean then work the fry in over time? Would you consider yourself belting the higher pitches in this song? I’m trying to learn healthy technique 😬
@@TheCovertDeconvert Yea thats what I did, I would practice just adding a light fry to my notes that I am singing. I did a TON of tiny sounding vocal fry on pitches until it was consistent to add it. After that I started to lean into the fry a little more to get the scream going. For me it is really only consistent in that higher range that chester and jared leto scream in. I can't do any low stuff at all. As far as belting goes, I would say I am in a mixed voice with fry added on those higher notes. If I sang them clean it would be a lighter mixed voice sound. The unfortunate truth is that it takes a while to develop, if I had practiced it more consistently I would have probably gotten there faster but it took years.
@@shadvegasmusic thank you for the thorough reply! Thats actually encouraging because we often only see the finished product-not the years of practice it took to get there-and compare ourselves to that.
Thank you so much! It was a beast to tackle, and frankly I never thought I would be able to pull it off but the practice finally seems to be paying off.
that's a hilariously amazing band name, I actually did "from yesterday" with some buddies at a jam a few weeks ago so I'm moving in the right direction!
nice job.. This song is really hard for regular tenors, but if you got lucky to have higher tenor this song is gonna be easier a little... but still you got it good, you pressed the limit and make the best of what tenors could do. 👌10/10
Yea I sit just barely higher than a regular tenor, my break is around a G or A flat. This song used to be impossible for me, "from yesterday" even more so but i've finally started to hit my stride I think. Thanks for the kind words!
I usually will sing it on my work commute for a week or so in an attempt to remember the lyrics and work on any tough parts, after that I will practice it on acoustic a few times, then I go for it! I refuse to splice together takes, everything is always in 1 take but I usually mess up 2-3 times when recording and have to start over. I mix in Logic, that doesn't take very long anymore because I have made templates for everything. Thanks for the kind words!
thank you! What questions did you have about it? The main chords are a C shape, a C shape slid up two frets (so it becomes a D with some sustained notes) and an E minor up two frets from the D chord. I can try to make something since I have some weird chords I use from time to time.
thanks! It's a martin centennial dreadnought, they were guitar center specials in 2016 but it's basically a stripped down martin D-28. They made a non-guitar center centennial edition that I hear is really good too.
Hey mate, this is excellent. I recently came across this song and really like the vocals in a live setting, then saw your cover! I tried to find a place to email you directly but could not. Just a question! Have you always sung with some distortion in your voice or is this something you've had to work on with vocal technique? Also your range is excellent, I was wondering if you could talk a little about your vocal journey and how you are able to sing in this style with this pitch please :)
I've been wondering if anyone would want some sort of singing tips video so maybe I should do that? To answer your question, the distortion has definitely not been there at all for most of my life. I actually have a naturally cleaner, pop punk style voice when I sing (watch my cover of "Thunder" for an example) but I have always looked up to Jared Leto, Chester Bennington, and Dave Grohl's vocals and wanted to get that high range and distortion like them. In an attempt to make a long story short, I learned about vocal compression and mixed voice in order to get the range, which has taken a long time. It would have taken much less time if I was more consistent with practicing but I became more serious about singing around 2011, so it has take awhile. After I got the range higher I learned about vocal fry and started by just trying to add it lightly to any note that I sung, not going for distortion but just learning to access the fry when I want. After I got used to a healthy vocal fry I started to lean in so it sounded more distorted and that's how you got this video! I hope that helps out, I'm a teacher by trade so I love questions like this.
I dont think you would be able to since it is a cover. In this case the true owners of the song rights are the original writers so you would have to get their permission unfortunately. That being said I plan to release some more electronic stuff that is my own (see the death stranding song for an idea of it) and you would be able to use that with no issues from me if you like that kinda stuff too!
Na it’s cool on twitch! As I don’t record the streams is just live. Actually nothing wrong with doing it I just find it polite to ask the artist if they mind me having their music on my stream. Would also work as free advertising for you!
