Can't wait to see the progress of this truck. Your dad is a wealth of information and can learn alot from him we all can. You GENTRYS are awesome people
I read somewhere there was a old military warehouse full of these 8V71's and similar. They were sold off, someone bought all of them. But who and where they went is a good question. This old truck will be a fun restoration.
Can't wait for more restor videos love this kind of content. As for what to do to the truck not a crazy stretch but stretch it add a set of axles blast the frame and paint it then make it all Shiney and purty
First thing thank you for being for your service do you need to work on your sound is very windy I'm sure there's something you can do about that I think you'll enjoy working with your especially your brother good luck and have fun
Those engines are so unreliable, and so gutless, they should've been outlawed many years ago,😄, when I was young, Dad had a cab-over Pete with a 430 Detroit 13spd, and I can remember how fast that thing was when we were empty, I can remember him actually outrunning cars with it, lol, but when loaded, it was the sadist thing you ever did see,☹, btw, how many kids do you have anyway?,😮, lol, you have a beautiful family there Cody,👍, great video, and thanks for sharing.
Hi mate, stop putting yourself down mate, you are great, and I love your videos. I have been watching your brother Tim’s videos for years and with a bit more content you could be just as good. So keep up the great work mate, cheers from Australia.
We learned how to drive-in a cab over just like that except it was a twin screw that means it was a Tanner Maxwell not a should add another. Axle to that 1 drop of 400 Cummins big Cam in it and put a 13th speed behind it. You'd have a h*** of a truck
I used to own this truck it was an awesome truck I painted the frame and cleaned up the wheels they was painted red I put the front led turn signals on it and I'll send you some pictures and videos when I own it I'd like to see it finished
Great video yes rebuild that I did mine almost I half way ,I got the 1978 GMC Astro . and it needed rebuild bad when I get my old GMC going I’ll drive it up there let look at her and drive it if you want.well thanks for showing telling see ya next time see ya bye
Not a supercharger although it does look like one, it’s considered naturally aspirated and that is just a blower used too blow the exhaust out of the cylinders, being a 2 cycle Detroit it has no way of getting the exhaust out so it needs that blower. It adds no power and without it it will not run.
Your doing alright vids are cool love that cab over you will find the build will go smoothly if you listen to your dad he knows his shite. Cheers from New Zealand 🇬🇸
Looking forward to seeing you build both your caboose trucks glad to see you building these projects with your dad and both your son's carrying on a gentry family tradition Cmon Cmon
YOUR DAD SHOULD BE FILMING SO YOU CAN GET THE EXPERIENCE OF WORKING ON YOUR TRUCK. JUST SAYING. YOUR DAD IS THE BEST EVER WORKING MAN, I'VE SEEN ON THE RUclips.
i really like ur videos but u should look into some kinda mic cover to keep the wind noise down .. maybe an external mic with a fuzzy ball on it if ur using ur phone, it will cut the wind noise way down..
I learned to drive truck in my dads 73 GMC Astro 3 axle 318 Detroit 13 speed over ! Every time I stop for fuel it would take 1 gallon of oil ! Back then Every body called them a screaming Jimmy or a Yamaha! Ours had twin stacks and twice a week i pulled lumber from N Cailf to LA and the fun part was pulling the grapevine! 17 mph top speed loaded ! Lol great memories loved that truck!
Thankyou for your service!!! I can't wait to see the restoration project!!! I really like the white cabover you have and can't wait to see the white one finished!!!!
Wow .. I know u can't control wind . Butt technology cancontrol what is heard.. repeats ,never a good idea.. love the truck an u . Edit ,edit ,edit review ..
That 8v71 is a two stroke that super charger is what puts the air in the cylinders. There's only two ways to kill a Detroit engine that's to run it hot or let it run away but before you start it pull the valve covers and check the fuel rack to be shure it's not stuck.
Seeing how this isn't the worst video I've ever seen, you should definitely make some more, I look forward to seeing them. And thanks for your service ...
Hey yeah do a lot of research before you start digging into that cab over you'll find yourself having less headaches on that cab over and hornet spray is a very good idea also you can remember this old cab over is nest for spiders too
Working on those old Detroit motors is a lot of fun and just the sound of it makes it even better can't wait to see what you do with the truck I would buff out the paint and clear coat it
U need to get the red cab over fixed n road worthy to make the money to fix the white cab over buddy keep it up buddy I love the videos n ur brother Tim too
When the cab is up on most of them old astros look on the side of the shift tower, when working on it there’s a push button to start it, I do believe the key still needs to be on but you can still start it from on the ground
Need a Dead Cat mic cover to get rid of that atrocious wind noise... there is one for every camera application even the iPhone. I build my own using fake fur from Hobby Lobby! Otherwise I am liking UR vids more than Tim's ☺ Keep'em Coming! 👏🏽 👍🏼☺ P.S. As a USAF Veteran... Welcome to the civilian world! P.S.S. Your Tres Muchachos are awesome lil dudes... As a grandfather I can honestly say, you can't take enough photos and videos of them, as they grow up so dang fast! ☺
Hey great show. Drove astros from 1978 to 1987. Great old trucks. Both Cummins bought new. Stopped in Feb. seen Tim and Braxton. Had a great visit. Sure nice couple. Asked were your dad was. He was working at the other yard I think. Would have like to met him. And yourself. Take care. Hopefully will stop in some other time. Bought some shirts and hats. Sons loved them.
Can't wait to see the progress of this truck. Your dad is a wealth of information and can learn alot from him we all can. You GENTRYS are awesome people

First of all I want to thank you for serving our country so far you're doing a pretty good job. But the more you do it the easier it gets
Your doing alright vids are cool love that cab over you will find the build will go smoothly if you listen to your dad he knows his shite. Cheers from New Zealand 🇬🇸
All detroits are supercharged, because they are 2 strokes and need to scavenge air for the compression stroke , 8V71, V 8 71 CUBIC INCHES PER CYLINDER
Y'all picked a pretty clean GMC ASTRO to start with , I can't wait to follow your updates on this true Amercan Rig ,
Like those Astro/Titan twins.
But that stroker aint supercharged, it's classified as naturally aspirated, the blower is just for scavenging.
Uggggh, I can tell when folks are kinda new to stroker life.
Looking forward to seeing you build both your caboose trucks glad to see you building these projects with your dad and both your son's carrying on a gentry family tradition Cmon Cmon
Cabover content is indeed very cool. :-)
Hell yea, cant wait to see it done. Definitely sand blast the frame and get it painted. Then the cab. Old school is gonna be badass when complete. 👍👍👍
YOUR DAD SHOULD BE FILMING SO YOU CAN GET THE EXPERIENCE OF WORKING ON YOUR TRUCK. JUST SAYING. YOUR DAD IS THE BEST EVER WORKING MAN, I'VE SEEN ON THE RUclips.
I agree with you!
It'll come along slowly but surely, take your time...............................

Y’all got yerself a 318 Detroit the one thing ya just don’t want to fiddle with is yer governor inside the valley by right valve cover
Happy Easter to you and your kids Easter Bunny's coming to town thank you
It is more enjoyable watching you and your dad rather than Tim and all of his hollering and immaturity.
You can get something for your mic to help with the wind. Great work!
Old school Detroit the same thing my trash company had in the semi truck I drove they make a lot of noise but don't have any power
That 8v71 is a two stroke that super charger is what puts the air in the cylinders. There's only two ways to kill a Detroit engine that's to run it hot or let it run away but before you start it pull the valve covers and check the fuel rack to be shure it's not stuck.
Looks like a good project to learn alot on. We all had to start someplace. Enjoy working and learning from your dad.
Enjoying your vids. Cant wait to see truck progress
It would be nice if you restore this truck with factory exhaust...
That new redmudd gravel works good, after a big Rian storm bone dry
Revealing two strokes there's a guy on RUclips that does work on two stroke Detroit it make sure you don't mess up the fire rings
I think you should get it running and put it in a Demolition Derby. LOL😊
Love watching old trucks given a new life going to be a beautiful truck. But I would put air ride on the front end lol just me tho
Have you ever driven a spring ride cabover? Lol watch my first video…rough ride
Every 2 stroke detroit has a supercharger. Not everyone has a turbo
Awesome go farther with it Lets see more
Looks just like the truck that was sitting in Bulls Gap Tennessee awhile back
Seeing how this isn't the worst video I've ever seen, you should definitely make some more, I look forward to seeing them.
And thanks for your service ...
I drove one of those in the 70's haulin steel for Jones Motor Lancer division. Loved that old girl.
Hey yeah do a lot of research before you start digging into that cab over you'll find yourself having less headaches on that cab over and hornet spray is a very good idea also you can remember this old cab over is nest for spiders too
That was a good video can't wait for More videos like this👍🙏
Working on those old Detroit motors is a lot of fun and just the sound of it makes it even better can't wait to see what you do with the truck I would buff out the paint and clear coat it
U need to get the red cab over fixed n road worthy to make the money to fix the white cab over buddy keep it up buddy I love the videos n ur brother Tim too
Man I guess you are all right just stretch it out and put another axle on it 10/4 😊
When the cab is up on most of them old astros look on the side of the shift tower, when working on it there’s a push button to start it, I do believe the key still needs to be on but you can still start it from on the ground
Is this your truck as well. Your dad's the man.
Need a Dead Cat mic cover to get rid of that atrocious wind noise... there is one for every camera application even the iPhone. I build my own using fake fur from Hobby Lobby!
Otherwise I am liking UR vids more than Tim's ☺
