As Obi-Wan astutely told Dooku, Qui-Gon would've never joined Dooku. Despite his own reservations about the Republic and his disagreements with the Jedi high council, Qui-Gon had just as much reservations about letting too much of Dooku rub off on him. Qui-Gon being Dooku's former padawan doesn't mean he would've mindlessly followed Dooku. Their philosophical differences about the Jedi way surely guaranteed that much.
It's pretty easy to understand how he could be so loved. The Charisma, the air of competency and command, he's an absolutely perfect mouth piece for propaganda. If you aren't seeing behind the curtain and seeing only the carefully cultivated image he wants you to see railing against the very real problems with the Republic, he's absolutely an impressive figure. I mean he's played by Christopher Lee the perfect choice for such a character. It's why he was an equally perfect choice for Saruman. You can see why people would see him as this wise powerful figure. In the books its stated that the real power of Saurman was in his voice. His ability to manipulate and speak with such authority that everything he says seems like the height of wisdom. What better voice is there to give characters like that then Christopher Lee's?
Ironically, Count Dooku died a hero in the eyes of his constituents. The standard New Republic textbook in the current canon probably still sites him as a misguided jedi and/or controversial visionary.
Yeah this is proof that the light in the dark side can be used in good or bad ways.. this is a good example of somebody using a dark side of the force but doing something very good.
In Legends he was universally respected even as a Jedi and would of been a Jedi Master on par with Yoda in light side force ability had he not left the order his force potential was equal to Yodas with Yoda himself saying a child Dookus strength in the force was enigmatic even for himself no other force sensitive aside from Anakin got a reaction like that due to having a count higher from Yoda not even Mace and not Yaddle or Plo Koon either only issue is that Anakin is brought to the order at a later age had he not Yoda would of trained Anakin mostly himself with greater interest then he did with Dooku yeah.
Dooku was someone who wanted to make a change for the greater good. Christopher Lee portrayed that character very well. It was understandable as to why he turned on the republic and the Jedi Order. If he was on Naboo helping Qui-Gon and Obi-wan, No telling if Qui-Gon would've left the order as well on his own accords like Dooku did. Dooku sadly grew too much of an "attachment" on the republic's political system. That was something that the Jedi for some reason failed to realize that it could have dangerous outcomes in the end and to that end, comes Dooku being seduced to dark side.
I've always liked Dooku & his back story 🔥 If I was in that star wars fictional world I would have definitely joined the separatists during the clone wars for sure.
I think its a shame that Dooku instantly switched to being super evil after taking over the C..I.S. It would've been so much better if he'd started his journey to the dark side out by actually trying to live up to his ideal of doing good for good's sake and early in the war, but as the dark side and Palpatine's manipulations take root in his mind his good deeds could get gradually more twisted until by the end he's a full Sith. A sort of natural progression if you will. Plus it'd be fun seeing how in the early days many on the Republic side see him being this good fair guy and wonder if they're on the right side. But I suppose that Dooku went full evil from the start thinking it would make Sidious trust him and teach him more.

Unfortunately, we will never see more of Count Dooku (or anything of Lucas Star Wars) due to the corrupt and bias Disney. Disney's refusal to acknowledge the fact that no one wants their agenda FUBAR content only shows their intent to ignore the fans and the lore Lucas started
Ive said this for years... decades now. I would have liked it better if Dooku had been exactly what he claimed to be. Someone trying to lead the disenfranchised in a peaceful exit from a republic that wouldnt let them leave. A former Jedi trying to figure out who the Sith lord was that had infiltrated the Senate and caused the death of his fromer apprentice and friend Qui-Gon. He could still be the anagonist of episode 2 without being the villain if you remember the real villain was leading the good guys. As the cut scene said "have you ever consideres we're on the wrong side?"
Palpatine chose such an old apprentice because he needed somebody to be the public face of the Separatists. Maul was a blunt instrument, and so Palpatine didn't mourn his loss very much because his role was nearly completed anyway. It was time to switch to political and PR warfare. Which is where Count Dooku excelled.
Palpatine's biggest mistake was off'ing Dooku. It's not like Anakin needed _another_ dip into the dark side. The Jedi _won't_ turn Dooku over until _they're_ done with him ("We need him NOW, we can't trust the Jedi to deal with Jedi!") - boom - Order 66 With Dooku and Anakin together, they go to Mustafar, Dooku gets them to dismantle their war machines (with the Republics greatest general as proof of victory), Anakin goes ham on them once it's done (no extra weapons/ships to fall into rebel hands), and both of them take down Obi-Wan together in an epic change of what we're used to (Anakin and Obi-Wan vs Dooku)
It was not a mistake. Palpatine knew that Dooku was planning to betray him sooner rather than later when he kept pushing for them to recruit Obi-Wan instead of Anakin. Mind you, this was moments before Obi-Wan and Anakin arrived to the observation deck. Whether Anakin needed another taste of the Dark Side was never the point. Palpatine used Anakin to get rid of someone who was setting themselves up to be his rival.
It's not justified at all, and such a conclusion could only be reached by someone who looks at the charade Dooku put on as him being authentic. Like Anakin, Dooku became a Jedi for all the wrong reasons. He assumed that the Jedi's role was to be authoritarians who were supposed to enforce his definition of peace and order on the galaxy. And when the reality didn't meet his expectations, he became a Sith to execute that vision.
@decepticonxhunter4850 But then again, you have to fully understand not only his POV but also his side of the story as well. Especially if you're not blind to the Jedi's hypocrisies and lies. No offense to you though.
I really like Dooku but would've preferred a far more contradictory bent to his character. Instead of the proverbial mustache twirling bad guy, a wise yet rogue aristocrat using his position and power to fight corruption. Who, in the aftermath of his former apprentice's death, learned the truth about the Sith and the Republic and set out to destroy evil; only to be rejected by those he called friend. And so, he turns to less reputable means, enlisting the help of lesser evils in order to accomplish a greater good. The good guy driven to do bad things for the right reasons, because others were either too blind or too corrupt to listen. Not Palpatine's pawn, but rather his greatest threat. A character with genuine virtue instead of intrigue, would've added tremendous weight to the issues you discussed, with regards to how respected...and even beloved Dooku was too so many. It would've also made his end that much more tragic. Realizing who and what Palpatine truly was in those final moments, along with the true depths of his failure. Unable to prevent what he undoubtedly knew was about to happen. Okay...fine...I may have given this...a little too much thought over the years and gone a little bit overboard lolol.
The inner core did not have an army to start with so it isn't they're fault and there were bigger threats like sith acolytes and the Hutts territories that surrounded the core world
Most people don't know those because they didn't read the Legends content. Pre-Filoni, Dooku was much more of an anti-Republic figure. Filoni and Lucas wanted him to be more evil in TCW and sort of wasted the character.
They loved him because he gave them the hope of false promises. At this time not only was a good margin of the people were against the Jedi. The people were tired of the same old political system, that really didn’t help you out to much.

Because they didn't know what a Sith Lord was
The inner core did not have an army to start with so it isn't they're fault and there were bigger threats like sith acolytes and the Hutts territories that surrounded the core world
Dooku would've made a great Supreme Chancellor if he didn't side with the Sith and Palpatine
I almost wish TCW had softened the CIS at times, or otherwise included some more evil actions on behalf of the Republic.
Most people don't know those because they didn't read the Legends content. Pre-Filoni, Dooku was much more of an anti-Republic figure. Filoni and Lucas wanted him to be more evil in TCW and sort of wasted the character.

Why don't you cover new stuff anymore? I like this these videos, but I also like when you cover new lore.
RIP Christopher Lee. 😒
They loved him because he gave them the hope of false promises.
At this time not only was a good margin of the people were against the Jedi.
The people were tired of the same old political system, that really didn’t help you out to much.
It blows my mind how little the movies focus on the really well done politics of star wars. Dooku is barely even a character in the movies...
Sounds like the UN of today's world
because groups of people become less intelligent the larger they are.
