Honestly I think that stress/anxiety does make you see them. There was a time when I was stressing a lot about my vision being bad and I didn't sleep well either. I was seeing some flashes from the corner of my left eye until I sorta overcame my anxiety. Rn I'm dealing with conjunctivitis and dry eye. I also realized that I have 1-2 floaters. I'm trying not to stress because of it. After all I visited the ophthalmology two times and they didn't say anything about my vision being bad. They only said that I have slight discharge in my eyes (conjunctivitis).
It's also possible that the floaters create anxiety. I was constantly startled by floaters like something was coming at me or a bird was taking off. Then nothing is there and it's like boo! Made you flinch over and over. You might start to get anxious. When my eyes dart is when I get flashes so as I nervously look around it starts them off. Plus the anxiety may be the body warning that there's damage since there's no pain receptors. Whenever I have been seriously injured I get a feeling something is wrong besides the obvious pain. When my eye is acting up I get that same feeling only without any pain. Been trying serrapeptase and nattokinase for arthritis and it seems to be helping dissolve the floaters. Also trying a vitamin called Areds2 from Costco.
Hi, I don't know if this will help anyone but I started seeing the little lights in my right eye as I was going to sleep in a dark room. It was as though someone was shining a mini flashlight in the corner of my eye and it moved around for a bit. Then it started in my left eye. About a year later I had emergency eye surgery to repair a detached retina in the right eye and eleven months later, emergency surgery for a torn retina in the left. I see still the lights especially in a dark room or one with dim lighting. I don't see them outside. I have been to nine different specialists. Two with Johns Hopkins and two with Cincinatti Eye Institute in Ohio and Kentucky, I even had an MRI of my brain. I have had every exam, scan, and tests. The results were... my eyes were perfectly fine! Although relieved, I want to know what is causing them. So, I saw a therapist who said yes, anxiety will cause eye issues such as flashing and if you already have them, anxiety will make them worse. I am dealing with anxiety at the moment and the lights are bothering me. On other days, I rarely notice them. I have my 6- month eye checkup tomorrow.
Thanks for sharing. I have having the same issue in both eyes. Like a lighting that goes fast around my eyes someties. It feels like something inside. But there’s nothing and I’ve been having this for weeks already. I have problems with anxiety
I was attacked by 6 people a year ago, I ended up with flashes and floaters a week later. I fight breast cancer and a brain tumour and the blows and trauma to my head has caused this.
I was diagnosed with anxiety three years ago and now I have problem with my eyes,i even went to the doctor and nothing seems to be wrong with my eyes.My problem is I can't see eye to eye,and when I do so I feel funny.. what might be wrong, it's real serious
Most likely if your parents have bad eyesight you can get it too, anxiety makes it worse since your thinking about it so I’m going to an eye doctor today so ye I’ll update soon
Your explanation is so good and thorough! It is because of it I’m going to my optometrist tomorrow. I mean my floating jellies and flashing started two days ago and I just recently had an eye exam for new contact lenses and eyeglasses that I picked up yesterday. What are the chances of my doctor seeing them when I hadn’t yet? 😊
My anxiety flared up hardcore one day a few months ago. I started having bad muscle twitches all over my body. I had to start a anxiety med and the twitching has died down a lot but like a month after that panic attack I started seeing a white flash in the edge of my eye maybe 6-8 times a day. I've been to the eye doctor and he says everything looks good on the inside of my eye so I'm thinking maybe it's something twitching causing it.
I see the same around my eyes. Sometimes its soft and white sometimes like fire. Just goes around fast. I have anxiety issue as well. Do they ever go away ?
@Vindicated28 mine are still happening. I told the eye doc and he acted like it wasn't anything. He said if it was retna issues then it would happen constantly but he also got picture of the insides of both eyes and said if anything looked out of place he would call. I never got a call so I guess it's anxiety

Could be that anxiety makes you hyper aware of everything so it's not the frequency that is increasing but your awareness of them.
