The meaning is pretty straight forward.
The only reason there are any controversies surrounding the concept is because people on average have it so good in America that they now have to create problems. Their resilience level has been lowered because life is so good and now they are easily offended by anything and everything.

  • @Kit_Bear

Freedom of speech is a right to say anything you want without fear of persecution, prosecution and/or punishment, if you hinder free speech then it's not a right but a privilege.
Think of it this way, you can say whatever you want but if I don't like what you say then you'll be punished for it. Is that freedom of speech? Freedom of speech doesn't have conditions applied to it, if it does then it's not free because it has constraints applied to it.
No "if's" no "But's", freedom is to be free from restriction and punishment. End of!

The order of freedoms listed in the First Amendment are religion, speech, press, assemble, and petition the government. He said that freedom of speech is not an unlimited right and then said the founders did not list any limits because freedom of speech has no limits and can not have any limits for it to exist.
The freedom in the 1st Amendment goes like this 'or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press'. Abridging means it can not have any limits placed upon it and the press has the same speech rights.

Dont ban hate speech. Educate responsibility.
Freedom can ONLY be healthy with responsibility. But banning hate speech does not help improving responsibility because it takes the responsibility away from the offender.
Instead, the government should have the absolute right heavliy propagate moral responsibility to our speech rights as education to living in our free democratic systems nature of freedom , especially at a very Young age, because its the government responsibility to maintain freedom of speech. This does not mean any restriction to our speeches. So in exchange only responsibility themed propaganda by the state.
Banning words with any authority is irresponsible cowardice, Keep Expressing against words anyone but yourself is repsonsible bravery.

Does speech and express hold the power that they once did, to change horizons, lift imaginations, and move men as they once did, or are we desensitized to each other’s words os well as the situation they find of themselves? Can a speech still make a difference, or are we moved instead be the mass of unthinking men full only with unreasoned passion and threats of harm? Can speech still make a difference, when men look on their fellow not as men, but a hindrance to the simulacrum and nonsense they lock themselves away to in the comforts of kings? When never again morphs into discomforted silence, can the speech of the well reasoned still shatter worlds, and make them more accountable to those that need it most?

Hate speech does exist. I believe u meant to talk about whether it's protected or not under freedom of speech, not talking about whether that term exists.

@@zigglywiggly9524 You’re wrong. It means you are free to say whatever you want without fear of persecution. That means no matter what you say on the street, you legally cannot be arrested for it. It doesn’t mean you’re free from all consequences, but it means you are free from the particular consequence that is persecution no matter what you say.
