Thanks again, Nick, for the makeover! I love my home, and it feels so much cozier and calmer (without all the items *cough cough clutter* everywhere). Thank you to all the lovely subscribers in the comment section who have kind words to say about this project and my debut on the channel. Like Nick said, this project has been months in the making, but it was so fun to see Nick in action designing and styling my space. To answer a few questions I saw in the comments: 1) All the products were gifted (except some decor and small items), so, no, I did not have to pay for them 🥰. I'm incredibly thankful to all the brands and Nick for this. 2) I'm a dual citizen but living in Vancouver. American-Canadian proud! ❤ 3) While I love traditional, feminine, and floral-y spaces more than Nick, at the moment, I have more of a retro-eclectic taste combining elements from lots of design styles. I was also considerate of my partner's taste and the setting of our home when Nick and I picked out the furniture. 4) Yes, I know the art says Wagyu 😅 A friend told us, but luckily I love Wagyu beef!
Thanks for showing us your home. I love to see interieur design in small spaces. Your home looks georgous. In Germany it is normal to have a flat like yours and it is hard to find content about smaller spaces. @Nick it would be great to see more videos like this. You've done an amazing job here. The only point I as a book lover don't get is why to put things on books? I've seen this often lately and I wonder where and why this trend started? If I love a book I want to be able to open and read it or see the cover. With e. g. a plant on top it could be damaged. It can't be used. It is reduced to a kind of tray I guess? 🤔 Nice greetings from Germany.
@@susa5846I'm not a fan of this either. It's done to elevate an item, to show at different levels for visual appeal. I'd rather use a wooden box or something.
Seeing you working within a space instead of sitting and talking with a slide show edited in is so refreshing! You should absolutely consider making more content like this, it lends you a lot of immediate credibility that a lot of long term subscribers know you have.
I'm about halfway through and I agree that it's a nice change from the usual video style :) although I find the "sitting next to each other facing the camera and chatting with each other" a bit awkward, so maybe you can find another angle for that kind of segment.
Agh people. The video was great. He didnt ask for ways to improve. If you noticed there was limited space and one couch and of course it’s awkward she’s a young girl and her home is on display. Just enjoy the hard work he puts into these videos.
Thiiiiiiiissssssssssss is what I've been waiting for. It's one thing to talk about design and another to apply concepts. No intense DIY projects. No super high budgets. Normal person with a normal home. And honestly I feel the changes were small (no flooring changes no paint) but HIGHLY impactful. I'd love to see more of this from you. Maybe even doing renderings (I know YOU didn't specifically do them) but renderings for viewers and then a follow up if they actually made the changes would be amazing. I'm full of ideas lol
I agree. In a renters home you just can't paint or you have to repaint when you move. Paint and stick on wallpaper of decent quality is expensive. It always feels like a cop out for design video. Ofcourse that looks completely different. But what happens when that peel and stick comes lose after a year or you remove it and it takes of part of the paint and plaster? I really liked this video because it's something everyone can take inspiration from.
You would think this isn't very high budget since there was no renovations, but those furniture pieces are quite pricey. My guess is around $5000-8000. It's because they're nice pieces that it was able to elevate the room. Not sure how many people can afford so many brand new pieces. This is where scouring facebook marketplace and a lot of luck comes in clutch.
I love a makeover without demo, paint or flooring. It shows how much impact you get from furniture and decor. I hope you do more of these kind of videos.
Nick, it was an amazing experience working with you on this project and rendering Eden’s space!! I’ve learned so much from your videos over the years, and now use your tips all the time when I work on a rendering! Thanks so much for the opportunity! Best, Yavi.
pretty much all the youtubers in the home decor space do it that way....stores providing furniture and/or getting willing participants is much more challenging.
Nick, I love that you are doing this on your channel, especially for somebody who doesn't have a giant budget. I wish you would talk more about the budget because that is so important to so many people. Otherwise, it's just simple to get anything you want to decorate your home with. The limitations of the budget are extremely important to most people.❤❤❤
YES. So many designers on channels walk into a middle to middle-lower class home and start suggesting massive changes or expensive ones like marble kitchen countertops. This is infinitely more realistic.
@ashleys637 well, we don't know how much it costs? I know Nick gets a deal but he also has expensive tastes as any designer should. Otherwise they just do their shopping at Walmart LOL! I know where you're coming from though you are so right. I can't even enjoy those design shows they are so wasteful and throw money at everything instead of repairs or working with what they have
It's really refreshing seeing a makeover where the owner is actually involved in the process. I feel like youtubers always design a room as a surprise which is not how being a designer works.
I love this makeover, the space looks so cozy. I think it's a lot more difficult to take a "normal" living space, and with all the restrictions many of us have to deal with, and change that into something amazing than to take a gorgeous piece of architecture dream house add some expensive design and then brag about the space. This is a hundred times more intelligent and inspiring.
I really love that you did this space without painting and stick on wallpaper. In a renters home that is so much money and effort wasted unless you know you are for sure going to be there for a lot of years. It's really great to see such a difference with furniture and styling.
Exactly! I live in a new build rental but still wouldn't want to invest money into the features I'm less than thrilled about, like the bathroom light fixture and vertical blinds on the slider. I don't feel compelled at all to take them down and put up curtains. They are brand new, and do the job of providing both privacy and natural light when opened.
Omg this was so exciting! Nick has left the building!! 😮 Out in the wild 😅 And Eden was so brave to let you do this makeover. You both obviously work well together. This should be an ongoing thing. Nick makes over the world!
The rug is the magician in that room...all the furniture on the rug makes the room look so much bigger and makes the room look like a living room not a hallway. Before it looked like walking through the room one would be walking half on and half off the rug. Nice job!
I love the rubber gloves in the living room explanation "there was room for stuff so we put stuff" I noticed if a video is too short, i don't think about clicking like, but when its a bit longer im like "oh yuh, I like that like button! I doo like thisss"
This is such a wonderful take on a rental unit. Most channels will have you creating all kinds of hacks and temporary structures to get to the final look (no shade!), but sometimes you want solutions you can feasibly take with you to your next place without doing a mini demolition before your final walk-through.
That's so beautiful. It's amazing how making a space more cohesive in its colour scheme and choosing the right furniture can make it feel more... grown-up, and less like student digs. The colours are really gorgeous, very calming and restful with the greens and browns - it's so much more personal now. And it doesn't look as if it's an easy space to work in to get that feeling, so well done! Loved how you brought everything in that you've talked about, to show that it can be done, and done well, even in somewhat awkward spaces.
Me, at 36, watching this video and looking at my Kallax unit...acting as a media console. Ahh! It's been on my list for years to replace, but media consoles are expensive! And for that price, you've got to really love it.
It's worth starting a Pinterest board to pin things that you like, and then going through to see the overall similarities - and places like eBay and Facebook Marketplace can offer some great finds, if you look. Or thrift stores - at least here in the UK, there are charity shops that do furniture, so that kind of place is another place to look. You'll find the right thing, with a bit of patience - and if you find something secondhand, you'll know that it's unique and not the same thing that everyone else has. Good luck!
My problem is the layout of the living room in my apartment. The placement of the walls and windows kind of dictates where furniture has to go. The best place for my TV is a small wall that's only a few inches wider than the TV itself, and I'm having a really hard time finding something that size for that spot. Even small media consoles are wider than that wall, so I've been scouring Marketplace and local thrift stores for something that I can put the TV on, and that will give me some closed storage underneath. (I have cats, so open shelves don't work, they just claim them as sleeping spots.) It turns out that we're not alone. From talking to other people, it seems like the perfect media console or TV stand is one of the hardest pieces of furniture for people to find.
@@Terri_MacKay Wall mount the TV and have storage elsewhere. It's better than forcing an over-sized TV onto an under size-unit in order to force it into a confined space, which is always going to look bad. You dont have to have a media unit under the TV ...and at least you can mount the TV at the correct viewing height. If visible cables are a concern, then consider panelling that wall with acoustic slats. Could solve your problem and look cool as hell into the bargain.
@@Terri_MacKay ...and getting harder as TV's get bigger. Currently the largest TV you can get is 120 inches. If you stick to the 2/3 rule, then your console would need to be 12 and a half feet wide and if you want the centre at the correct 43 inches off the ground, then your unit would need to be no more than 12 inches high. Clearly we are going to need different solutions.
@Martyntd5 I never thought of acoustic slats. That would look cool, it would make a nice accent wall. And, yes, cords are a concern, not only because they're ugly, but I don't want exposed cords that a cat can play with or bite into. The wall isn't very wide, so a couple of slat panels wouldn't cost any more than a good quality media console. I'm liking it more the more I think about it. Thanks for the suggestion!! 😊
Nick! You look so tall. Love what you did for Eden. Your style is sophisticated. Amazing cover for that “boob lamp” and the little shelf by the sofa is brilliant. The furniture options that have storage are beautiful and expensive but they give ideas.
I loved how you went into her space, looked around liking things and being very non (Nick) snarky-“I like this, oh that’s cute” etc and then changing just about everything! You are a master at influencing change without damaging someone’s self worth about their design style-not easy to do, yet you did it so easily. And in the end she loved it-well, who wouldn’t?👏👏👏
What a beautiful result! ❤️ I especially like how you've curated the wall art. The black frames and more deliberate art choices really stand out as a composition. Very calm. 😌 I noticed Nick's favorite tiny lamp made a cameo appearance! It's a nice pop against the darker mid-century wood. 🥰 Your shoe solution was both practical AND good-looking, but it will require some restraint. Even the window treatments look great - I worried that the print might compete with the wall art, but it works well. Serene. 😌 Nice work, Nick ... and Eden!
More of this type of video please!! I love transformations, and getting to see them with your skill driving the changes is the home renovation show I never knew I needed!!
I love the makeover. The space is beautiful, warm, & functional. It is also great to get a peek into your process & to see you actively working in a space, not only talking or explaining. It makes doing good decorating seem more doable.
Oh WOW ... Nick leaves his room! I was really happy to see you out and about, displaying to us your lovely aesthetic and explaining the choices you made. Thank you for such an enjoyable video x
Thank you for sharing your space with us Eden and great work on the makeover Nick! I love watching these kinds of videos, where you actually implement design concepts and ideas in real life!! Everything is so lovely ♥
This makeover is AWESOME and timely! We (retired) are about to downsize to a teeny condo where these design/treatments apply perfectly to ours. We're very GRATEFUL to have the product links too!!!! GREAT JOB!
I love this makeover! Their place was nice before, but just with a few "I guess this'll do" solutions (which we've all had). What an upgrade! Awesome work both of you!
Well done for both of you. You’re so gentle and openminded, letting differences be what they are, not pushing, criticizing or devaluing anything. I’m so proud of you 👍🏼🥰
Great video! I really love seeing a make over that accounts for many of the parameters most of us have. This is a beautiful upgrade for Eden. Thanks for keeping it real with the choices you made.
Then end result looks great! We've all been in that situation where you're young and still just starting out. And while you may have a developing sense of style a lot of the time your place is made up of whatever you can inexpensively cobble together. Getting to a point where you can intentionally layout your home feels like a whole new level in life.
one of the bright sides of the white box apartment, is that it can carry the darker elements quite well. Rug, furniture, wood items, patterned drapes, etc. and still be light. Very cozy and welcoming space.
The move towards gray, and thankfully white was a welcome change as a long-term renter. The beige and brown spaces that were popular as the "neutral" paint scheme a few years ago felt way too dark in most cases and too easily overwhelmed most people's art, furniture, etc.
Love how Nick sometimes bites his tongue to try and be nice seeing a few challenging spots... The ' I love that for you 's and 'mmmmmhhhh ' s are priceless... Should he ever come and see my place, I suspect he'd turn around and leave straight away... 😂😂😂
Eden's place is beautiful! I love that it was a true collaboration, as one would find when working with an interior designer. Many times the designer does a surprise makeover. It looks so put together! Please do more like this!
Wow! Nick, I loved this video. Seeing you work with real people in real spaces, especially a small one, was wonderful! It was also really nice. You could do this for your staff I hope in the future you will make more videos like this.
I love that unlike many design makeovers, you actually collaborate with the client and let them work with you instead of just taking an idea and then surprising them with it ❤ I LOVE THIS! More vids like this plz oh plz!!!❤❤❤
I enjoy Candid Nick as much as I enjoy Commentary/Rant Nick, so I’ll happily watch videos with both! I love the colours you chose and the whole room feels warm and comfortable.
Really love this makeover. I like that there was a bit of floral but it wasn’t overwhelming. The space feels so much more mature. Excellent collaboration.
This was fun to watch and the results are great. I think the biggest difference was the drapes, which really warmed the room to an impressive degree. Would love to see more projects like this please.
What a great makeover. It went from tidy but hand-me-down basic to comfortably sophisticated. I really love that TV console, the coffee table, the floor lamp, the list goes on, lol. And the tulip ceiling light-great idea! Love all your videos, but this was a nice change of pace.
Loved seeing Nick outside his comfort zone in action! The article pieces are gorgeous and all the little lamps make it extra cozy. Did you know lighting makes a huge difference in a space? Not sure if Nick has mentioned that before lol 😅😂 more makeover videos please!!
OMG, Nick, I now see you differently - the interaction with Eden shows that you are a marshmallow! So sweet, so gentle! I am a fellow Canadian (baby-boomer in San Francisco) and have a family history in wonderful Summerland - I know that you had dreams/former relationship around Summerland - and hope for you a sweet, gentle life! Karma is powerful my friend - despite your caustic humour (that I so appreciate), your soft side exposed with Eden equals a karma that equals realizing your dreams. Keep on, keeping on in B.C.!
I’ve been watching and sharing your videos for ages, and this is now in the top spot of all that I’ve viewed from you. Seeing you and Eden work together in her super cute space has been both inspiring and instructional. ❤
I'm curious how much you think the budget was? I think it was at least $5k-8k and I'm not sure whether I would call that a small budget for such a small space.
Love This! Appreciate the great ideas and the process of getting to the result you want. My husband and I moved from a 5 BR 4 bath house to a 1 bedroom condo 2 years ago. We haven't spent enough energy figuring out what actually is appropriate for our space. You changed the couch and added a chair to make it work. Our previous house furniture does not really fit in here and this show encourages me to let go of it and start fresh and embrace our condo and try to make it fit our lives for now instead of clinging to the past. I want to make this condo a space to live in, instead of a storage unit for furniture. For example, I have 6 stuffed high back dining chairs and table in a space where people on one side have to get seated before the others can seat themselves. Ugh. sorry too long response, but this triggered me to think about how we are living in this space. Thank you. Ann
Love it! Great example how important lighting is - layering is the key. Softness as well. Accessories and natural fabrics are also the best way to add warmth and convert space to home. Add personal touch, heirloom, memories, make it your with photos, books, art and plants. Mix textures and finishes. Wood is great, adds warmth. It's just lovely - feels like cozy, comfortable, stylish and functional home. Lovely!
Merry Christmas to YOU, Eden! Also, had no idea there was a lantern cover for a ceiling light so thanks for the insight! Gorgeous makeover! Even with the restrictions of a rental a place can be so pretty. Love the warm wood tones. I bought a blonde burl hornbeam table from France and its single slab. I was thinking to put black-finished wood chairs with it as a contrast. My style is minimalist but maybe I’ll have some chair cushions with patterns if someone wants a cushion on their wood chair…..Anyway, Nick you are right on as usual and love the work you put out.
Beautiful make over, it looks so cozy and chic at the same time. This was a huge upgrade. Love the sofa, tv console and hall storage. The quieter rug was also a good choice.
Oh my goodness, Eden is delightful - and I love Yavi's creative renderings. ✨ I'm sad the rug is gone - I was hoping you'd hang it on the big blank entry wall 😄 The end result is Cozy Sophisticated - I love it!! More more more please!!
I loved this!! I liked it at the start but I love it even more now!!! Great use of a multi-use, hardworking space. A whole bunch of us will relate to this and can use these ideas.
Nick, I've been watching you for years from Ontario and you inspired me to leave my career as a registered nurse to become a home stager. It has now been three years and I have taken the plunge and run a successful staging business. I really enjoy seeing you do this kind of video and seeing your tips and tricks come to life! Eden's space looks absolutely beautiful! Keep up the great work!
This video is so lovely and exciting! Nick seems to care so much about Eden and about the end result. I loved to see the process and brainstorming....all delivered with Nick's witty observations! Bravoooo 🎉❤❤
I love this. My apartment is closer to Eden's "before" and I just assumed you really couldn't do much with a small rented space but the "after" proved me wrong.
This was great! I really enjoyed watching you use your guidance to improve someone’s home. Especially since it is a rental, which holds so many people back from improving their space.
Honestly this was a lot of fun! Many people in your city and mine (Victoria) can't live in huge apartments and we need styling ideas for our small spaces, especially renter-friendly ones. Love the curtains and the pops of warm lighting.
Wow..I’m a visual learner, I’ve been a fan of your channel for a long time and when I started feeling dissatisfied with my living accommodation I tried using your concepts to change it..but this video really helped ! The apartment was lovely and seemed well put together, but then when the reveal was shown..what an amazing difference! To me, it went from: this is my apartment to this is my home.. I’d bet that it’s a place now to really relax..

(I have cats, so open shelves don't work, they just claim them as sleeping spots.)
It turns out that we're not alone.
Your makeover really softened the square angles of the space, it looks beautiful.
It looks so much more "adult" than just post college. Love the whole thing!
I think too much. Like way too old for her. That's the style of a 50 YO man
Thank you Eden for allowing us into your home! This was so fun and very useful too! Hope to see more videos like this
These makeover videos, alongside the roasting ones, are my favorite interior design content because they’re the most educational.
What a beautiful result! ❤️
I especially like how you've curated the wall art. The black frames and more deliberate art choices really stand out as a composition. Very calm. 😌
I noticed Nick's favorite tiny lamp made a cameo appearance! It's a nice pop against the darker mid-century wood. 🥰
Your shoe solution was both practical AND good-looking, but it will require some restraint.
Even the window treatments look great - I worried that the print might compete with the wall art, but it works well. Serene. 😌
Nice work, Nick ... and Eden!
The apartment looks splendid; sophisticated and youthful at the same time. Well done.
More of this type of video please!! I love transformations, and getting to see them with your skill driving the changes is the home renovation show I never knew I needed!!
This was such a great video!!! Eden, love love love your space! Please do more of these videos. Love watching you work your ideas Nick.
Oh I appreciate this Nick and Eden. Nick’s reactions to the baskets and storage area were priceless 😂😅
Best job perk ever!
That green takes me right back to 1974 when I was a little kid. It was everywhere! The apartment looks great: all of the lighting theory in action.
The wood pieces made aaaaall the difference! Loved it!
This was so much fun! Eden’s a doll and you on your best behavior, how about that! 💜
I think you did a great job on Eden’s space. It is less cluttered and upgraded in nice ways.
Love the new changes to Eden's home! You did great, Nick!!
This was a fun video. She is a humble and lovely person. 😍 Great beginnings.
"A modern take on Arts and Crafts". Yes! So much yes! I love this and it's basically what I've been trying to do with my 1907 home. All of this.
Really love this makeover. I like that there was a bit of floral but it wasn’t overwhelming. The space feels so much more mature. Excellent collaboration.
4:35 "there is room underneath to put stuff, so there is stuff there"
It doesn't get more real than this 😂
"A modern take on Arts and Crafts"
A video on this please!
This was fun to watch and the results are great. I think the biggest difference was the drapes, which really warmed the room to an impressive degree. Would love to see more projects like this please.
She had a great space before but it looks even more put together and homey now. Great video!
Wow, what an amazing job, not gonna lie I was worried at first but Nick crushed it! Your place looks awesome Eden!
Omg Eden is just adorable! Loved this video. Her house is so cosy. Love the storage solutions.
What in design gods is this?!? Omg what a treat, love this blog format! ❤
I love this. It's like we got to watch you gently roast someone house but then actually help her out and see the result ❤
I was expecting a little refresh, but you changed the feel of the whole space without a giant budget. Well done, Nick and Eden!
Eden is adorable and it’s fun watching you two interact. And, love the new space!!
Beautiful make over, it looks so cozy and chic at the same time. This was a huge upgrade. Love the sofa, tv console and hall storage. The quieter rug was also a good choice.
So much warmer and more substantial. I love the drapes! Before it was a bit college dorm, although cute. Great job!
I love how you just read her and her place right when you walk in!!!
OMG what a transformation! The place looks incredible. You’re so frikken talented, Nick! And Eden is so lucky to have you as a boss! 🎉
One of my favourite videos!
Wow so inspiring, no demo…..no painting!
I love your videos, but this was a nice change.
Eden’s space looks so warm and cozy.
Absolutely gorgeous! It’s hard to believe how much better it is - that’s why Nick is the designer and I just follow him. ❤
It looks larger, visually. Hiding the clutter made a huge impact. Very nicely done.
The point you regularly make about lighting really comes through in this makeover!
