It's unfortunate that he can't keep up the MVP caliber/ top 5 player level for the entire season but if he comes back rested and returns to what he was doing during that stretch he is clearly better.
From the early november to early January he was averaging 30 11 4 1 4 on 52/40/87 splits while being the best defender in the league.

Him "Not" guarding the pick and roll is 1, disingenuous and 2 not super accurate.
Wemby is also more impactful in basically every other metric on defense as well as passing the eye test in comparison to AD.
If we are talking one game that happens tomorrow I might take AD but wemby has played at a top 5 player in the league level for more than half of the season and I expect him to get closer to that level of performance again post Allstar break. Wemby is as of now a all defense first team, Dpoy and at worst a all NBA 2nd team lock.

Wemby is the DPOY, it's undesputed, no one can honestly say he's not. And if Wemby wasn't there, Rudy would be the DPOY. AD is indeed not even in the top 10. Davis used to be very good but he clearly overestimate himself.

I'm just suprised that with how good people keep saying Wemby is that the spurs aren't winning. Its either the spurs suck and its a Wemby carry job or his offense is a little overated right now and he still has a lot to improve on that end.

he definitely has a lot to improve offensively, its mostly just raw shooting and talent rn. The spurs do suck too though, check the on-off def ratings with wemby and you'll see, top 10 with him and one of the worst without him, same as last year.
The spurs were winning more than they should have between early Nov and early jan but wemby got gassed because he was doing everything.

Evaluating the defense with statistics is very difficult. For example, the on/off +/- doesn't make sense for Wemby as Collins or Bassey are the substitutes !!
But the D-Lebron is an aggregated metric used to evaluate the global defensive impact of a player. If this metric is not perfect, the result between Wemby and Davis is not even closed. Wemby has the double of D-Lebron compared to Davis.
No doubt and not even closed, Wemby is a better defender than Anthony Davis. There is absolutely no discussion here !
Anthony Davis will never win the DPOY and he seems to be embittered... I have pity for him. Jalousy is not the best feeling !!!
But, for the same reasons, last year, it wasn't even closed. Gobert was a much better defender than Wemby. Except for the blocks, almost all analytics were largely in favor of Rudy.
And if Wemby managed to close the gap at the end of the season, the DPOY is an award to evaluate the players on the 82 games of the season and not on the last 20 games.
This year, the race is almost done. The only way for Wemby to lose the DPOY is to play less than 65 games due to an injury !!!

wemby is that guy on defense with eye test, stat sheet and with advanced metrics. Wemby averaging 4 blocks is impressive but not as impressive as his rim intimidation and elite switchabillity for his size.
Victor has a roster surrounding him that is crap. When you have a future GOAT on your team, which the Spurs never had before, then everyone else looks average. Took Jordan how many years (5?) before he had competent players around him? It won’t take the Spurs that long b/c of the draft assets they have acquired and having above avg players to trade like Vassell, Johnson, and maybe Sochan if he cannot stay on the court. Spurs will get their b/u Center and their SF all-star player and #2 scorer in the off season and will compete next season, which is Year 3 of the Victor Era.

The defensive player of the year for the past 40 years has always been how impactful you were to your teams defense and how good your team is, Wemby and the Spurs are literally not a playoffs team why should he win the award then, it's unfair to change the criteria of an award for one player

This the first video of yours that’s I’d say you are objectively wrong. Ad guards every position well in the switch like wemby, and also has been the sole reason the lakers defense is anywhere near standard. On top of which, players literally don’t go up on ad either because they are also scared of getting rejected. The only needle mover is wembys blocks per game. And even then, that’s not the sole aspect of Dpoy. Further more the narrative has been pushed that wemb should get Dpoy every year since April of last season 😭, why are we lying now and acting as if it hasn’t? The articles are online!
