Powerful and quick Venus. Great class! Jelena got me in trouble because my lady accused me of watching her games "too much". There is no way for me not to prefer WTA play over ATP.
To me David Witt did such a horrible job coaching Venus. She changed Venus game from a very offensive game, shortening the rallies into a very offensive game. All she did here is hitting the ball right back at Jankovic, and we all know by that time Jankovic was a far better defender than she was. She's never going to win a point in that way. It all got dragged on for over a decade until she change her coach. I like the new coach, he brings more versatility to her game, but Venus was too old by then. Too late to accomplish anything. I wonder why she kept David for so long. He was bad for Venus.
Jankovic was not better at defence than venus, but had lower UE on average, moved better on clay, and played with more spin than venus, who played clay like hard courts which was a great mistake. Power, without angles and changing pace and knowing how to move on clay, is worthless.
So good to see Jelena at her best. Miss JJ
Jankovic was such a touch matchup for Venus. She never really gave her any angles to work off and made Venus have to force her own pace constantly.
