Big problem is surface of the hull once you capsize beacouse wind is working against you.

Is that true that the sail boat is very hard to sink due to the keel underneath to keep the boat to flip back up once capsized? I always like sailing, am not one yet, would like to be one someday though. Pardon me if I misunderstood about the safety of the sail boat.

With heavy keel it will recover alone. Small boats like mine use daggerboard that are light and are used to sail upwind and body weight is only thing preventing boat from capsizing.

Would the hobie 18 or Ducky 17 done better in these conditions. What small dingy sailboat do you think could be good for this scenario?

The best would be smaller and lighter dinghy so your body weight has more effect on stability.
